After finishing the life check lab, I realized that there were a lot of factors that I needed to change in order to become a healthier and happier person. One in particular is my sedentary lifestyle because that plays a key role in changing my lifestyle. Although I do not always eat the healthiest, my eating habits have gotten better in the last year and it’s been an ongoing battle to completely change it. Whereas my diet has been an ongoing improvement, I have not been taking time or the effort to exercise. I find it hard to set aside time in my schedule to work out and improve myself.
The main reason why I have been having such a hard time in completely changing my bad habits is because of time. Between school and work I have found it immensely difficult to find time to cook or go to the gym. Every now and then I am able too but it’s not consistent enough to make any real impact on my daily life. I also find that I do not have enough motivation to even attempt to work out or cook. After school or work I’m usually too tired or busy to even think about doing anything else but sleep. After seeing “where you are now” on my life check, I see why it’s necessary to improve my health.

I believe by following these selections I can become a healthier person and reduce my risks for any diseases that people that continue down this road would develop. I have always wanted to be a more active person and lose and keep off the weight that I had gained over the years. I believe this will be the best guide line in learning how to take better control on living a better and longer life. Though I know it will be difficult especially with my schedule, I know that I will have to have a backup
plan. An alternative solution to improve my overall health would be just to eat healthier and be more active. I should plan out all my meals and pre make snacks that I could keep on me at all times to help reduce unhealthy snacking. I could also join clubs that requires a moderate level of activity or park my car farther from the school or take the stairs instead of the elevator to classes. I could go to the gym before or after my classes 3 times a week instead of just going home or waiting for my next class. As long as I stay active and watch what I eat instead of constantly indulging myself in junk food I can certainly change the way I live my life.
Staying healthy does not only mean to eat a healthy diet, but also to be active and to provide our body with stamina so it can fight various diseases. According to Myers (2003) around a quarter of a million deaths in the United States are caused by insufficient physical activity. The US Public Health Service (1996) has provided enough evidence towards the effect of physical exercise on cardiovascular (e.g. coronary heart disease) and non-cardiovascular health (hypertension, osteoporosis, colon cancer etc.). They followed a group of people for several years and found a positive correlation between the amount of participants’ physical activity and their health problems. So how much exercise is just enou...
I was tired of being overweight, feeling tired all the time, and I wanted to get my confidence back, I knew in order to do that I would have to make a lifestyle change. I had no prior knowledge of health and nutrition, so I wanted to increase my knowledge of the basic areas of health and wellness to implement in my daily lifestyle. My hope was to create a strategy that could be implemented in my daily life that could give me a solid base for starting my weight loss
In investigating changes in my lifestyle factors, I observe strong interactions between dietary habits, mental attitude, various relationships, and physical activity which are supportive of my health. When balancing these factors, I look to my dietary habits as fundamental. By knowing the effects food has, I am able to make choices in challenging situations which allow me to keep elevated energy, keep focused throughout the day, and have a positive mental attitude to aid me in responding to relationships in a positive way.
My family has never pushed being physically active on to my siblings and I, so I have developed a habit of lying around rather than trying to get some kind of physical activity in my daily life. The only real exercise I get is either from PE class or walking to places, which rarely happens. My diet is abnormal because sometimes I eat a lot of junk food and sometimes I don’t eat at all. I also get about six hours of sleep or less every night and most of that is due to the constant stress I feel from school. I know these are all unhealthy because the lack of exercise and fluctuating diet patterns can cause weight gain or other bodily problems and the lack of sleep can probably affect the the way I function. I also need to start taking care of myself so I can limit my risk of hypertension because it is
I have always been one to spend my time watching things that others wouldn 't think to watch. I have seen things like “The Wind Rises” by Hayao Miyazaki, “Queen” by Vikas Bahl and my favorite “Mary Kom” by Omung Kumar. From documentaries to animes, to silent films. I have dabbled in a little of everything so far. I am known to watch a few of these to pass my summer as well. So, when it came time to watch the foreign film “The Lives of Others” directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, I was fully aware of what to expect. From the subtitles to funny English accents, to sharpening my skill of being able to read the words and focus on the action at hand. You could say I 'm somewhat of an expert in those areas. Thank you anime! The movie was
After a long deliberation I decided to do my behavior modification project on my unhealthy eating habits. There are many meaningful reasons why I choose this as my behavior to modify. I want to kick start a healthy lifestyle change by eating healthier and being more active. Another upside to modifying this behavior is too hopefully *fingers crossed* lose a few unwanted pounds. The long term goal of this change is to live a happier, healthier life, and become more confident in myself. I have high hopes that I can achieve all of these goals by cutting out junk food and sweets and replacing those items with nutritious and balanced food.
Throughout every person’s life, there will always be moments in time where change will take place. This could range from a variety of events such as changing schools, jobs, or even one’s own home. However, there are some habits that help one stay healthy if they remain consistent. This can consist of altering one’s diet to a healthier one or even enhancing the number hours of sleep one gets per night. A health change behavior goal that I have taken the time to evaluate and accept is necessary will be composed of a ten day exercise program in order to completely change my physical fitness habits. Selecting this health change behavior was the best choice due to the fact that after starting my educational career here at UCI, I had abandoned the active lifestyle that I once had before college. For the past two
It has been proven time and time again that exercise is the main answer to all of our problems. Aiding in things such as improving psychological illness, emotional health, and cognitive function, it’s a mystery why more Americans do not engage in the recommended levels of physical activity daily. With pressure on now more than ever to have the “perfect body” all it takes is a little motivation, determination, and exercise, and you are on your
For this paper I decided to take a second and evaluate my life and think about what were some of my current lifestyle habits and behaviors and which out of these habits would I like to change. After sitting down and evaluating all of my main habits I categorized them into groups of which ones were helping to lead me to a long healthy lifestyle and which ones were likely to lead me to an unhealthy life and lifestyle. After narrowing these unhealthy habits down to my top three I decided to focus this paper and my attention on my current nutrition and most of all on my negative eating habits. After evaluating my lifestyle and all of my unhealthy habits I felt that my current nutrition level and eating patterns were in need of the most improvement and change.
I work out at least three times a week for 45 minutes, and I am working on making eating a healthy lifestyle (physical). I improve my social wellness by being a positive influence.
Following a healthy lifestyle has now become an emerging trend. Research and many studies have proven that merely exercise will not entitle an individual as healthy. A good nutrition
Making a lifestyle change is challenging, in particular when you have to alter the dynamic of your current pattern of activities of the daily living. Lifestyle change is a process that involves preparation, implementation and evaluation of the designed plan. Furthermore, this process involves time, support, and careful planning. The steps of changing behavior it comes first with resistance of unhealthy behavior pattern disruption and then with the realization of the positive consequences of a healthy life style. In order to succeed, the person has to be determined to make the change. I am glad to be forced to take a look at my personal health and to develop a plan for my future. For the last few years it has been a subject I chose to ignore. Faced with this assignment and the desire to do well on it, I am forced to take a hard look at myself and decide the next steps.
Living a healthy life style is challenging and stressful but it shouldn't be that way. Starting off slow and allowing your body to get accustomed to such changes will help you enjoy yourself more with these new changes. Changing one dish you eat to something healthy is a great start. Keeping yourself happy while putting healthy foods into your body or exercising will further your success. I’ve come to realize that your outlook on things will effect how much effort you put into it. Keeping yourself active and motivated is crucial to such a change. Making schedules or goals for yourself weekly and trying to fulfill those goals will help you accomplish more. If you manage to fulfill each of those goals, allow yourself one of you're favorite cheat foods. Keeping healthy is all about working with what you know and how willing you are to keep going and challenging yourself to new
My personal health has been something I constantly think about. Whether it’s myself, my parents, my doctor, or others that bring it up, I’m reminded that I need to eat healthier or exercise more, etc. I know that I need to get better about what I eat and try to work more exercise into my daily routine, I just find it hard to find the motivation to go and actually accomplish what I know that I need to do. Especially in today’s society where we’re surrounded by a lot of non-healthy food, and getting access to healthy food is more expensive than the latter, it’s hard to make the better choice and choose the healthy option. I’m hoping now that I’m in college that I’m able to get better at taking care of myself than I have in the past.
