Acute Myeloid Leukemia is one of the three types of leukemia that can form in the blood and bone marrow. Mostly called AML, it is the most common type of acute leukemia that is found in adults over 65 years but can increase with age. Acute Myeloid Leukemia starts in the bone marrow but can travel inside the blood. It is defined as the cancer of myeloid, which can be related to the bone marrow, line of blood cells which is caused by rapid growth of abnormal white blood cells that pile up in the bone marrow. It disrupts the production of normal blood cells. The three different types of blood cells that AML would be in are red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets which are a small colorless cell fragment. This type of cancer can get worse quickly if it is not treated or discovered. One interesting fact about AML is that they are classified as different names like acute granulocytic leukemia, acute myelioblastic leukemia, acute myelogenous leukemia, and acute nonmphocytic leukemia.

The cancer stem cell theory hypothesizes that tumors or cancers arise from mutations or epigenetic changes in normal stem cells. These mutated or genetically altered stem cells possess the properties of the normal stem cells such as the ability to self-renew, differentiate into any type of body cell, and resist apoptosis. Hence, the cancer stem cells (CSC) are named so. It is also suggested that because of the above-mentioned properties of the cancer stem cells, the current anti-cancer therapies are not entirely successful (Gil et al, 2008). Multiple myeloma, also known as myeloma, hematologic cancer, or cancer of the blood is a plasma cell cancer, a type of white blood cell made in the bone marrow that is responsible for creating antibodies. A Multiple myeloma diagnosis means a group of these plasma cells has become cancerous and is multiplying. This cancerous multiplication of plasma cells raises the the level of abnormal proteins in circulating blood, and reduces the space available in the bone marrow for making healthy plasma cells .
