Throughout one's life, they will overcome many obstacles. An obstacle is a thing that stops someone from doing a certain task. There are many obstacles that one can go through but some are losing a family member, getting sick, or just going through a rough patch in life. Every obstacle a person encounters changes them as a person. Some obstacles impact more than others, but they both will affect the person in some shape or form. An obstacle becomes a definite point in someone's life because they can look back at the time when they did not believe they could over it and show themselves how much of a stronger person they have become. Everyone has an obstacle in their life, but the one that made the most impact on me began when I was …show more content…

The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
Everyone has difficult obstacles in their lives. I have had a few myself and they each have changed me for the better. My most profound experience was being repeatedly molested as a child. I wasn't aware of exactly what was happening to me. I didn't know being touched was wrong. I just knew how disgusting it made me feel, but I didn't tell anyone at the time. I shared this publicly as an adult to help other parents realize that children need to be protected. It was a long journey to reach to the point where I could speak about my experiences with anyone. These experiences from my childhood affected me deeply; however, I have overcome them, learned from them and I have contributed at a higher level because of them.
On December 13, 2013 Beyoncé - who was named by the Time magazine as the most influential person of the year 2014 - unexpectedly released a self-titled visual album that went viral on the Internet, that is, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and sold 828,773 electronic copies in three days becoming the fastest-selling album in iTunes Store history. After the release of the album the artist posted coupe of videos where she was walking her fans through her songs and music videos in the album explaining what was intention and the idea behind each song. In one of those videos she speaks about how she was looking for some videos on feminism on YouTube, and when she saw a TEDx video from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie talking about feminism, Beyoncé decided to use it for her new single – Flawless - as in her opinion the music and the Adichie’s video suited very well with each other. By the end of the explanatory video she talks about ‘imperfection’ and embracing one’s imperfections, which she links to her another single Pretty Hurts. This song features the issues of sexual objectification of female bodies and the culture of perfection where women are valued only for their beauty. In another explanatory video she talks about owning her sexuality and body, especially after her pregnancy. As she explains it was her joy and her confidence that allowed her to show her body to the public. In the video she mentions that she is very well aware of the fact that she is showing her body, and that she is doing this partly for other women as well to empower them, and give them an example that you can own your body and your sexuality, even after body goes into a lot of transformations during pregnancy.
When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art.
... As expressed in the journal, Rihanna had many thoughts on her mind and was going through so much stress, but she still had the power to gain her strength and confidence to overcome her obstacles. Critics believe that Rihanna is trying to discover herself and figure out who she really is as a person. I believe Rihanna is just putting on an act and is fooling everybody so she can make that money. Music is an inspirational outlet that can be used to convey a message to other people who relate to that message. Music can become even stronger when the person who is performing it is an inspirational source as well. For the past 30 years Madonna has become a well-known artist, actress, and role model to the people who support her. All artists know that they are only number one until someone else comes along and replaces them with more intriguing work to offer. Lady Gaga has been said to be the new Madonna of our generation and is quite often compared to her in many ways by her musical and styling choices. They both share similarities such as their musical genre, style, feminine empowerment, and their support towards the gay community. Their differences can also be seen in those same fields as well.
As an ever growing topic of debate in modern society, understanding feminism is critical to modern social and political stances. Beyoncé Knowles, a celebrity pop star has been a figure surrounded by debate for those seeking to define modern feminism. By examining her feminism, a great deal can be learned about different stance on modern feminism. As bell hooks defines it in her book, Feminism is for Everybody, “Feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression” (viii). Through this definition, hooks is clear that feminism can be embraced by anyone, male or female, black or white, rich or poor so long as they oppose sexism and its ramifications since opposing sexism does not mean
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
As I watched another Oprah interview with Lady Gaga, I was again struck by how totally together she seems. Despite Lady Gaga's experiences as an outcast and the victim of bullying as a teenager, she has become the most famous pop star on the planet right now. But unlike other pop stars that find themselves all over the media lately, Lady Gaga's notoriety and fame are strictly a result of her immense talent and dynamic stage presence.
Most of us go through difficulties, either they be family orientated, be financially based or even with ourselves but, to take hardships and look at them in a positive way is, an attribute that can make anyone successful. Failure is not the end but the beginning of a life lesson. Some of us have setbacks but to remind oneself their only minor setbacks and look at difficulties in a positive manner is a key to success. Obstacles should never deter ones decisions in life either but should be their for encouragement and set a limit to over achieve. One must have the courage to face problems instead of negating or dwelling on them. Learning how to manage those difficulties in a positive manner and overcome those hardships can help become successful.
Personally, I think Paglia argument that blames Gaga for not being sexy did not explain enough about Gaga who know how to play piano, write music, sing great live, dance, and make fashion (Needham 2). It mostly comparison to her “long-term crush” (Needham 2) Madonna who is, as Paglia stated, “the future of feminism” (“Madonna I: Animality and Artifice” 90) now seems “marooned in the past” (Needham 2). Overall Gaga is empowering everyone respect each other and love themselves, unlike Rihanna who exploiting women to be a slave for men. I believe Rihanna not only degrading women but also exploiting kids by sing to them inappropriate song for their age. Regardless if number of musicians like Rihanna increase, I think Gaga will accomplish far more success than musicians who choose to follow rather than lead.
Focusing on Lady Gaga as an example of an anti feminist icon highlights how antifeminism has challenged the founding the concepts of feminism and is also being challenged in the 21st Century. Lady Gaga, is one of today’s most famous female celebrities and holds a unique cultural position. She is constantly in the public eye and in a recent interview spoke of her views on feminism. Gaga believes that there has been a misinterpretation in the view of feminism as man hating when in fact “it has nothing to do with them” I ...
Those obstacles have made me a stronger person than I was before and I am thankful for them. I also have God to thank because without him, I wouldn 't have made it through these past four years.
