When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art.
Marina Abramovic was born in Belgrade, Capital of Yugoslavia on November 30, 1946. Many people asked her where she is from, she replied “I came from a country that no longer exists” (Abramovic). Her parents, Danica Rosie and Vojn Abramovic, were Communist partisans in World War II. Her parents held high positions in Josip Broz Tito’s government. The strictness of their jobs were carried over into their personal lives, running their house in military standards. Marina Abramovic mother frequently rejected and beaten Abramovic for seeking attention from her. Abramovic mother also helped her “gain her lion-hearted sense of self mastery and Communist determination” in her performances. She was raised most of her childhood by her grandmother. Marina Abramovic had very strange and bizarre dreams which had her wondering the meaning behind them. Her grandmother would sit her down and explain in her best ability to define her dreams with religion logic. Abramovic grandmother helped her creativity expand and influence her performances.

Her curiosity is also to be admired as she asked the traditional artist questions of, ? what will happen if I want to do or make this, but I am not sure how, what do I do next?? (Maloof 28). It has been said that ten percent of true artist endeavors are inspiration, and ninety percent are perspiration. In Maria?s case that surely holds true. A great artist is always recognized in his or her ability to see in different ways than the rest of the world and then translate that vision into a form for others to see and understand. It is this idea that defines an artist.
People usually expect to see paintings and sculptures in Art Galleries. Imagine the surprise one finds when they are presented with a man stitching his face into a bizarre caricature, or connected to a machine which controls the artist’s body. These shocking pieces of performance art come under the broad umbrella that is Postmodernism. Emphasis on meaning and shock value has replaced traditional skills and aesthetic values evident in the earlier Modernist movements.
Frida Kahlo is known for the most influential Latin American female artist. She is also known as a rebellious feminist. Kahlo was inspired to paint after her near-death bus incident when she was 17. After this horrendous incident that scarred her for life, she went under 35 different operations. These operations caused her extreme pain and she was no longer able to have kids. Kahlo’s art includes self portraits of her emotions, pain, and representations of her life. Frida Kahlo was an original individual, not only in her artwork but also in her

However, she also makes it clear that she is in control. By breaking away from the norm, she is able to keep the reader interested in her work. The use of short sentences is almost hypnotic. What catches the readers’ interest by far is her consistency in the theme of politics especially in these three poems. She uses playful language to make it interesting for anyone to go through. However, she also makes her message assertive. Give her background, life was not always easy. Art becomes her way of expressing her emotion and making people aware of the things that go on. These are things that people allow. Things that can be changed if people worked together. The poet is careful not to lean on any side of politics. Her major role in the poems is passing information. Undoubtedly, she does her part

Art is a very important part of humanity’s history, and it can be found anywhere from the walls of caves to the halls of museums. The artists that created these works of art were influenced by a multitude of factors including personal issues, politics, and other art movements. Frida Kahlo and Vincent van Gogh, two wildly popular artists, have left behind artwork, that to this day, influences and fascinates people around the world. Their painting styles and personal lives are vastly different, but both artists managed to capture the emotions that they were feeling and used them to create artwork.
When first approaching this work, one feels immediately attracted to its sense of wonder and awe. The bright colors used in the sun draws a viewer in, but the astonishment, fascination, and emotion depicted in the expression on the young woman keeps them intrigued in the painting. It reaches out to those who have worked hard in their life and who look forward to a better future. Even a small event such as a song of a lark gives them hope that there will be a better tomorrow, a thought that can be seen though the countenance by this girl. Although just a collection of oils on a canvas, she is someone who reaches out to people and inspires them to appreciate the small things that, even if only for a short moment, can make the road ahead seem brighter.
You can express anything you want to though art. It is like an open door leading you anywhere you want to go. Some hide their feelings in front of people but when their backs are turned, they become whatever they want to be. Just as Banksy expressed his feelings through graffiti, and Nelson Mandela through words, Bonnie Story expressed her’s through dance.
Music is an inspirational outlet that can be used to convey a message to other people who relate to that message. Music can become even stronger when the person who is performing it is an inspirational source as well. For the past 30 years Madonna has become a well-known artist, actress, and role model to the people who support her. All artists know that they are only number one until someone else comes along and replaces them with more intriguing work to offer. Lady Gaga has been said to be the new Madonna of our generation and is quite often compared to her in many ways by her musical and styling choices. They both share similarities such as their musical genre, style, feminine empowerment, and their support towards the gay community. Their differences can also be seen in those same fields as well.
She’s looking pale, her eyes are looking into the horizon with a lost focus. It looks seedy, just like her life. Her dress is indubitable elegant, it represents her family’s wealth, social status and power and also it represents the romanticism era. If you pay attention closely to the portrait you can observe that her hands are touching each other and that she has no fingernails. Her hair is moving as if the wind was blowing towards her.
The Feminist Art Movement raised women’s status and the world’s awareness on gender equality through artworks that reflect women’s lives, feelings, and value. Through creativity, feminist artists invited the audience into their daily livings, to understand their strengths and efficiency, and to consider their needs and feelings. The movement expanded the traditional female role in society, such as housewives, to individuals with talents including artists, writers, the working class, and professionals. The female artists used media ranging from traditional techniques, like painting, to non-traditional art forms, such as installation art, performance art, conceptual art, and sculptures to share with the audience their new perspectives.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mika Rottenberg is best known for her elaborate, colorful installations. An acclaimed video installation artist, Mika Rottenberg features female performers with extreme physical characteristics such as female body builders in her work to comment on gender, labor, human rights, and value. Her work often involves women working in repetitive tasks, which were inspired by Rottenberg’s first encounters with infomercials. Moreover, by having the subjects of her do meaningless work, Rottenberg comments on about society’s need to find solutions to nonexistent problems.
In the last few weeks, with several tragedies occurring in the world, ethnocentrism is very present and even when talking about social, political and economic issues as well as, art. The term art in the past, has been given the definition of being primarily based on aesthetic beauty, and not focused on the emotional construct that art also possesses. Similarly, gender roles encourage women to conform to their norms the same way society thinks art should just be an aspect of beauty. The emergence on performance art in the late sixties, was a way of challenging painting to add an emphasis on the feeling art gives through performance. Marina Abramovic, performance artist, uses her performances as a tool
