The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity. Stephen Curry, currently one of the best players in the NBA, experienced an obstacle when he was not to a top college. Rather than seeing this as an end to his NBA dreams, he overcame this obstacle by turning it in to an opportunity. As a member of the Davidson College team, the underdogs at the 2008 NCAA tournament, he was able to demonstrate his skills during his teams dream run to the final 8. Through his shooting prowess and never give up mentality he showed the basketball world his ability to change the course of a game. Had he not been challenged by this obstacle he may not have had the opportunity to demonstrate his skills, with this opportunity acting as a catalyst for many more in the future. …show more content…

It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA. He was drafted straight out of high school in the 2003-04 season, by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is already on the road to success by achieving co-rookie of the year, and he appeared in the Olympics. James is expected to be a champion, but he may not have what it takes to become a real champion such as Michael Jordan was. Before Jordan or James can be categorized as a champion, they have to be able to handle pressure, fame, and maintain a positive relationship with their team. When comparing Jordan and James’ clutch capabilities, or their ab...
Looming obstacles in the life of an individual serve as molds which instill perseverance, hard work in an individual's identity and bring hope for the future.
Everybody in Detroit called him “The Man” because he always was a leader and the to-go person in any tough moment of the game. Some people called him “The Gentleman” because he was a genuinely nice person with respect for the game and for others. Joe Dumars, a member of the legendary 1989-1990 Detroit Pistons team, once declared “He is the best player I’ve seen coming into the league for years”. Road to history was wide open for Grant, but luck had some other plans for his career. This is the story of Grant Hill, a story about having faith, patience and love for the game of basketball.
... front of me since the road to success is far away. Facing unknown obstacles is like drowning in water because obstacles are weighted heavily and sometimes I can't lift it. I just have to use my strength and hopefully, I can raise it off me. I learned that sometimes it is better to have a little false hope than to have none. Perseverance doesn’t not come naturally to all people but eventually it will come because they will find it. It helps them find their inner self by going through obstacles so that they can be more of a life challenge. I believe that this can change a person who they are because it is something everyone needs to go through life.
In the last ten years many young and talented high school basketball players have chosen to enter the NBA draft. These 17 and 18 year olds decide to skip college, and instead they choose to take a big risk and enter the NBA, hoping to become stars and earn millions of dollars. In many cases, these youngsters’ careers are a failure because they don’t turn out as talented as they thought to be. They end up spending only a few seasons in the NBA because they are not good enough to compete at that level. Many of them have to move on to doing other things, such as playing basketball overseas, doing everyday jobs, or going back to college to earn a degree.
The NBA is well known for the number of amazing professional athletes it has had over the years. Some of the most gifted and talented individuals come through the NBA and one of the better-known superstars is none other than Kobe Bryant. For years people have wondered what makes Bryant so successful. The main contributors that lead to Kobe Bryant’s success is his hard work and dedication, his mindset, his natural ability’s and talent, and the people that have helped him throughout his life. Kobe Bryant was very successful in the NBA because of the amount of hard work he has put in, the people in his life, his relentless determination and his god given natural abilities.
This rich NBA great was not always the wealthy man everyone knows; through hard-work, he achieved status. Earvin Johnson grew up in a large and poor family. “With so many kids to take care of, my parents didn’t have enough money left over for luxuries” (Johnson 6). Johnsons’ parents believed in the value of hard-work, and stapled this into his mind at a young age. With this idea in mind, Johnson picked up a basketball. Basketball was always a great love of his, and he always wanted to make it to the next level. With the preaching of this value by his parents, he worked hard and became very good. After years of practicing and coming up through a troubled childhood, Magic was presented a great opportunity. Since he was so good at basketball, all the major colleges wanted him to play for them, “I finally narrowed down the field to two choices… the University of Michigan and Michigan State” (Johnson 51). It was a decision that would change his life, and after many hard days of going back and forth, he decided to attend Michigan State University.
We should not let our hardships and challenges defeat us, but rather we should conquer our challenges.
I have a special person in my life that inspires me to better. Throughout my life I’ve had people inspire me but no one inspired me like my cousin Derrick Rose. He taught me that dreams do come true if you try hard and never give up. I’m sure we all have family members that encourage us to do well in life, but he did more than that he motivated me and showed me what success is when he became the youngest MVP in the NBA. Today I would like to talk about that inspirational person, my cousin derrick rose. My cousin Derrick Rose taught me to stay humble and never be selfish. Now let me tell you what makes him an amazing basketball player and cousin.
Abstract: Basketball players who enter the NBA early are not ready for the NBA. Early entry into the NBA by high school and college basketball players has had a negative affect on the college basketball program, the NBA, and the players themselves. Each year the number of early entries in the NBA rises more and more. In 1997, 47 basketball players entered the NBA draft early, and the number has risen since then. The college basketball program is drained of talent due to players leaving early. The high school players that go directly into the NBA are hurting the college program because they never contribute to the college program at all. The NBA now has to deal with a higher level of immaturity and disrespect by young players. College basketball players obtain a certain amount of respect and maturity in college. The players suffer by not grasping the concept of learning due to lack of education. Many analysts say that entering the NBA before finishing a four-year program is entering too early. The NBA commissioner, David Stern, has begun to work on ways to encourage players to go to and stay in college.
Curry and his dad would always play basketball. Basketball never came easy to him, him and his dad would practice all the time. Curry's high school years were a little bit tough for him sophomore and junior year of high school was tough for Stephen he was very unselfish on the court so he only scored an average of 6 points per game until the high school team lost the state championship then everything changed for Stephen he figured out he couldn't always pass the ball to his teammates all the time he needed to take control whenever he could. his senior year of high school was a success, the scouts from big schools like Virginia tech started to look at Stephens game but they didn't want Stephen anymore because of his size. Stephen thought that he was good enough to get these scholarship to a division 1 school but instead he used that disappointment and turned it into motivation. Then Davidson college called and he got a scholarship to play basketball at

Michael Jordan was a hard worker from the beginning of his life to today. Jordan grew up in Wilmington, NC, and he developed a very competitive attitude from an early age. His father says he was born with this “competitive problem”, and that the one person he tries to outdo more than anyone else is himself (Michael Jordan Biography). During his high school years, Michael Jordan became more and more interested with the game of basketball, he enjoyed it. On a November Evening in 1978, 50 teenage guys packed into one gymnasium (later named Michael J. Jordan Gymnasium) at Laney High School, excited to get a shot at making their basketball team. Among those guys was 16 year old Michael J. Jordan. Coaches took note of MJ’s Effort more than anything else, because everything else, to them, was mediocre. It was a rare event if as sophomore made the varsity team, and 5’10 Michael was hoping he would be on the roster when he took a look at it the next day. Sadly, he was not on the list. What made the experience even worse, one of his close sophomore buddies, 6’7 Leroy Smith, made the varsity team over Michael. Jordan’s name sat on the JV roster. Though, this was a sad experience for Michael, he quickly got over it, and became a JV star. The summer after his sophomore yea...
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
Life is full of hardships, which is a bitch. But, if faced, they are overcome and you are rewarded, which rocks. However, if the problems are not dealt with, more problems will arise. My title is a quote by Art Alexakis—lead singer of the band Everclear. He was presented with problems in his life, but he faced them. And now his life is much better. No one ever promised that life would be easy, and no one ever told you exactly what to expect. This is because everyone’s life is different. No one faces the same challenges. But, everyone has to face life sooner or later.
