Recommended: Importance of history
Individuals rarely recall the instant their passion became all consuming; however, that unmistakable juncture is more prominent than any other life event I experienced. While camping in Pine Creek Gorge, history captivated me with a fervent and an intrinsic obligation to immerse myself within it. Upon cycling the Pine Creek Rail Trail, I stopped for a moment to absorb a magnificent site. A river flowed before me, and I was instantaneously transported two hundred years through time. A canoe slowly made its way towards me, two Native Americans, its passengers. I became transfixed in that moment where the past intermingled with the present. As a result of this moment I understood my obligation to research and preserve Pennsylvania’s abundant history. In realizing this, I recognized that pursuing an internship at the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as the only feasible approach. I believe an internship with the Keystone Summer Internship Program will complement my passion and enhance my ability to bring Pennsylvania’s history to the public. As my interest in public history developed, I understood the significance of the service your organization provides to the residents of Pennsylvania, and demonstrates the prominence of history outside of the classroom sphere. I would be …show more content…
This is perhaps the most important aspect of history due to its time sensitive nature. I take pleasure in sharing my love for history with others and if the past were no longer available for others to experience, history would simply be stories collected from a past generation and subject to forgetfulness. Conducting my internship at the State Historic Preservation Office offers me the opportunity to preserve Pennsylvania’s history. The Historical Marker Program would interest me, as would conducting any research necessary to projects currently being
The initial component of Module QF5000 involved collaborative work with our peers culminating in an exhibition demonstrating our understanding of historical perspectives in the early years. The following essay will discuss my individual reflection upon this process both personally and professionally.
My life so far has been like a good hiking path. A path that is winding and twisting and encompassed with plenty of beauty. A path that is lined with trees like angels protecting you from the mysteries in the deep forest and that keep you rooted on the path you are destine to take. One that is filled with deep troughs and the most beautiful peaks you could ever image. Sometimes the path is rocky and hurts the soles of your feet until they crack and bleed, but other times it’s covered with a soft green moss that lifts your steps and revives your spirits. Through the last 17 years of my life, I have traveled that path and endured every step. I have gone into the dark abyss of the trough and have found in it the most precious grace of light. As I have gotten older I have come to recognize that the scary and shaky steps of my path have indeed been “fearsome blessings” (Buechner, 92).
Since my first visit at the Air Force Academy as a young boy, I instantly realized this is where I want to go. Ironically, I never why I wanted to go, was it my parents will or the expectations of others and myself? As I started to mature and grow, I learned more about the academy and what it really meant to become a cadet. The opportunity to have a world class education pushed me to pursue acceptance to the Academy. Going to the Summer Seminar will give me a chance to explore many aspects of cadet life to further enrich my interest in the Academy.
The museum I chose to visit this week was the North Carolina Museum of History located in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 13, 2014. It was a good time for this assignment because we were traveling this week to North Carolina so it made a great stop for us during our stay. Taking World Cultures has given me a new perspective on the foundation of our history and heritage. North Carolina holds a large amount of history for the United States. It was one of the original 13 colonies and was the first state to declare its independence from the British. North Carolina was known for its slave planation system to cultivate tobacco and cotton to be exported. An exhibit that I found to be interesting at the North Carolina Museum of History was The Story of North Carolina. This museum is the largest exhibit ever produced at the N.C. Museum of History. This exhibit is one that would inspire anyone new or visiting the state to experience the history of North Carolina and to develop more of an appreciation and understanding of the culture and communities.
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
Everyone ages. E.B. White’s memoir,“Once More to the Lake”, illustrates the vivid memories that White experienced while remembering the days gone by. White’s story has a profound meaning because it relates to many people. It’s not required to be an animal rights advocate, have parents that do not speak fluent English, have a disability, or live in the outdoors to relate to him. White’s story seems to be just a whiff of nostalgia on the surface, but there is a much more fundamental lesson within it. In his essay, White utilizes descriptive imagery that shows his dizzy feelings of nostalgia and internal conflict of dual existence, and the realization of his own morality. Time persists, so it should be cherished, as the cycle of life continues and reclaims what it has granted.
When I found out I qualified to be a candidate for the NJHS, I knew I had to take this chance. This group is made up of people who depict leadership, character, citizenship, academic success, and service and I would love to join. These characteristics wouldn't just be valuable for a candidate to have, but for everyone to have to exceed in life. If I were to be in the National Junior Honor Society, it would give me an opportunity to ameliorate my future and motivate me to do better.
This reflection paper is divided into five main sections. The first section gives a general introduction of internship that I was doing during my internship period. The second section provides an overview of the internship practice and tasks that I was assigned to do. The third section is about the office technologies I used during the internship. The fourth section is about the benefits of the RCBC Paralegal Program courses taken as applied to the work that I performed. The final section is devoted to the knowledge and experience that I gained during the course of internship.
This semester I had the opportunity to intern for Rockhill Elementary school through the Spectrum Education program. I was the first student to intern at this location therefore, I did not know what to expect from this internship site. After meeting with the school principal for the first time, I learned that Rockhill had some big dreams to recreate a sensory room that would benefit all children at the school. As an intern, it became my job to create a plan of action for this sensory room. Once the work in this space was completed, I would instruct teachers on how to use the sensory room and work with Rockhill students in the space. The purpose of this sensory room was to create a calming space for Rockhill students so that they may stimulate
Marcia Winter, the new president of the Milford Historical Society, attended a conference on grant writing with me in the legislative house in Hartford. There I made plenty of connections with other historical societies, museums, agencies for support collection care. I have a whole list of places I can contact now to either visit, intern, or find out information for my future. One of the most important lessons I learned in order to get grant money was that you must do a lot of community projects to show how important the historical building is to keep maintaining the building or archives within it. After this conference it was time to start school tours to interact w...
The business used for my internship this semester was Hyatt Place in Rogers, Arkansas. This location was once an AmeriSuites that was renovated into a Hyatt Place. The Rogers Hyatt Place is owned by McKibbon Hotel Management. McKibbon also owns seventy five other hotels in ten other states in the Southeastern United States. Hyatt Place has one hundred and three rooms in either king or two doubles. All of the rooms are suites and are separated into a couch area, and a bed area. Each room also holds a refrigerator, desk and flat screen t.v with HD channels. Hyatt Place has four main departments within the hotel. These departments include management, front desk, housekeeping and maintenance. The management team includes a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Sales Director and an Operational Manager.
Looking back on a childhood filled with events and memories, I find it rather difficult to pick on that leaves me with the fabled “warm and fuzzy feelings.” As the daughter of an Air Force Major, I had the pleasure of traveling across America in many moving trips. I have visited the monstrous trees of the Sequoia National Forest, stood on the edge of the Grande Canyon and have jumped on the beds at Caesar’s Palace in Lake Tahoe. However, I have discovered that when reflecting on my childhood, it is not the trips that come to mind, instead there are details from everyday doings; a deck of cards, a silver bank or an ice cream flavor.
Changes have to be change by the fact that many students from Anaheim High School are not succeeding, the way to do it is to let them earn themselves a full ride scholarship to a four year University. For the ones that can achieve the goal do not have to struggle for money in the future, which then have to pay early on. Many of the students from California receive scholarship by after school programs, sports, and excellent grades. Anaheim High School should pressure the students to have extraordinary grades throughout their freshmen year to senior year and the only way to do that is to give them a reward for their hard work. A program that only focuses on freshmen students to be drafted for a total of forty-percent. The students will have
The College is offering several courses that students can take over the summer break. These general education and developmental courses are available to both current and incoming students. These classes are typically several weeks long and meet five days a week for multiple hours a day.
During the course of time, I’ve learned many useful things that have led me to be the person I want to be today. From college classes to work experiences, I now have the ability to exceed upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective on life.
