Interview Reflection On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, I had the opportunity to discuss with Ms. Lori Laing, LMFT about her practices when treating clients in crisis. Ms. Laing conversation was very informal and sincere. She expressed that all her clients are individuals that are in a crisis either domestic violence, intimate partner violence or sexual violence. The points she described challenging aspects when working with clients in crisis were to help clients to identify and utilize resources and strengths since it can be a shift in their pattern and that can be difficult. Besides, she manages those challenges with consistency, encouragement, working through boundaries and challenges (Laing, 2018). When she has cases that involve risks related to suicide and self-harm, she does a suicide screening with all new clients. If she sees any indicators, then explores protective factors, strengths and resources, history of thoughts, current thoughts, plan and access to plan, recent loss (job, loved one, health, etc.), etc. However, she may do a crisis plan to make sure that they have resources like for example numbers for emergency care (Laing, 2018). My dad used to be a runner and I remember during my childhood, seeing him getting ready to go out and begin his exercise routine every day. Besides, my dad used to take me with him to a local health food shop to get his whole grain bread, vitamins, and other supplements. On the other hand, my mom cooked every day from scratch, healthy meals using natural ingredients such as grains, cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
