From the minute that you meet the interviewee, an opinion is made of the overall mood for the interview. Therefore, it is important to start the interviewing process off on a positive note. The interview is the first interaction with a company. As the interviewer, you are acting as the “face” of the company – displaying a positive impression of the company allowing for positive reviews and feedback on the company. She mentioned that active listening is a tool that is used to set a positive interviewing experience. The interviewer should not dominate the conversation, overall the applicate should speak at least 75% of the time to allow a smooth flow throughout the interview. This week was very exciting in terms of my informational interviews and being able to work security at a music event. The informational interviews not only helped being the classroom to the real world but also provided me with real examples to better strengthen the connection. Both parties should be comfortable when it comes to an interview. Also, although I did wait long periods before talking sometimes and I also cut her off once, I do feel like I did get a decent amount of information from her. I also asked open-ended questions too. We should be attentive to what people say, clarify what the speaker is trying to come across, and respond in a way the speaker can understand what we are saying. I think I was aware that I needed some improvement in certain areas of this process but I feel as everything is slowly changing. In the future, I’m going try not to interrupt people, get distracted, tune out, and try to get a bigger picture of what the person is telling me.
