During the individual interview, the overall goal was to discuss with somebody what they define as leisure. The interview included a series of questions that ask what the interviewee what they do for leisure and how it has affected their life. Then trying to identify if there was common themes that occurred in their responses to the questions. The interviewee was my RA, whose name is Matt, whom lives on my floor in Engineering House. I met Matt my first day of living in Engineering house because we had our floor meeting to get to know people and then also in our house meeting through ice-breakers. I asked Matt if I could interview him because he seemed as though he had some things in common with me the way we had the same sense of humor and just discussing with him to go about …show more content…
The main point of his leisure time as Matt has stated is that “It’s mine” and it is “my world at the time.” The major dislike of his own leisure is that he spends a lot of time doing things that “sum up to nothing.” Matt wished he could have used the time to be more beneficial and have something productive come out of it. Something that prevented him from more leisure time his last two years of college was his status of an RA since he was required to hold a certain number of events for his floor or partake in other RA duties. Leisure has been very important to Matt in the fact that it helped him make it through college because otherwise he “would go insane as an engineer without free time.” Lack of a substantial amount of money prevented Matt from trying new things for leisure since campus offers many opportunities for students to make friends and enjoy leisure but the majority of it costs money. He was always okay with this though because he enjoys just watching his shows on Netflix and Netflix is easy to fall back and does not cost that
Participants had to meet certain criteria. They set up an interview day with the first hour being the section of the workshop that contained personal results such as scores on lower body strength and problem solving. Next they attended three 30-minute sessions that gave them information on topics such as nutrition and stress management. There were a group of participants that participated in the actual interview. They were taken to a private room where they sat at a table. Questions were asked and the person being interviewed would respond with an answer. The interview started with questions such as how life was living with FM and then questions became more detailed such as how to maintain

He is an international student from China. Also, Chaoyu Chen is freshman who is majoring in Environmental Science. The creative recreation that he does is a computer game, Dota2. He started doing this recreation when he was a high school student, and the reason why he played this game for such a long time was he could relieve his stress by playing it. He does this activity because he loves the game dynamics which required team cooperation. Because of this game, he learns the importance of team spirit and feels energized by the victory. He believes that recreation benefits him academically because he can then apply the important skills of communication and cooperation to help him ace his classes. He is pretty sure that this form of recreation has contributed significantly to his academic and helps him to increase his GPA. This game helps him to cooperate with others, which allows him to excel group projects. On the other hand, based on the article” 3 Different Approaches to The Work-Life Balance Struggle”, it is not easy to balance the recreation and academy (Lee, 2016, p.3). Therefore, I asked him what he does to maintain a balance. According to my interview, Chaoyu and others does so by prioritizing their studies and allocating at least two hours per day on academic
Exam Essay Historically, women have been excluded from combat roles. On the surface, it is because men, who have always thought of themselves better and stronger than women, believed that females could not handle the responsibility of holding a combat position and women are rupturing the socially constructed gender norms that were set in place. According to Nicole Dombrowski, “no other topic concerning women’s role in war creates as great a debate as the question of women’s active participation in combat units.” The benefits of the expansion of women’s roles in the military advantage not only the women but the military as well. In comparison, the drawbacks of expansion of women’s roles are usually disadvantages to the men within the military.
My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
For centuries the meaning behind leisure has inmensably changed and what was done during the free time changed as well with the new creations and the help of renovating technology. During the 1950s free time was a luxury that would be spent with family or if the person was of high class it would be spend drinking tea and gossiping with their friends. If lower class people spent their luxurious time drinking tea and gossiping they were considered Free time went from being a luxury to current time where leisure is for the public and not just a group or status. More often than not though in the 2000s people are too consumed into their jobs to take time and enjoy the public activities that are given and sometimes it is taken for granted when past centuries would have appreciated them. As time has passed the Coney Island became a part of history were it contains a documented experience of all its workers and their contributions to Coney Island.

The entire course content including envisioning, developing and implementing a recreation program, as well as preparing a grant application will be most useful in my professional career. Each component is important and necessary to create an effective recreation program that will enable the participants to have a fulfilled leisure experience and improve their quality of life. This will be useful in my professional career because I gained a good sense the value of leisure education, conducting a needs assessment and implementing
Aging is about the experiences and there are several chapters in older people’s lives. We can learn from the elderly and their lives. (Tappen, 1981). The interview was very interesting to discover how people thought and lived in the 1930s and 1940s. In addition, how hard it was to get opportunities to get educated and get a job. People were stricter about specific topics such as sexual orientation, morality, sex. The majority of older people lived in poverty, and they married underage, as well as they had a lot of children. Also, older people had to do hard work because they don’t have a chance to get a college degree. Parenthood was very different in these days, and they were stricter to their children, and the
A leisure activity is any activity chosen for pleasure, relaxation, or other emotional satisfaction, typically something one would participate in during free time. The leisure activity I have chosen to partake in is knitting. My great-grandmother was an excellent knitter and would make my whole family scarves and dishcloths when she was alive. She would give them out as Christmas presents, so I want to carry on her tradition. Knitting is a relaxing and simple task, so it is a great way for me to occupy my spare time and escape the stresses of work and school.
Leisure time, each person thinks of something different when they hear this. While reading an essay by Gregory A. Miller about "The Many Benefits of Hiking” I got to thinking what my favorite features and benefits of hiking are. My favorite thing to do in my leisure time is hiking because it calms my mind, it 's great for the body, and I enjoy doing all I can for our earth along the way.

2006). To me recreation is having fun with people that makes you laugh and smile. Outdoor recreation, to me, means to remember the joy that nature brought me at five years old with friends and family exploring what Mother Nature provides us and feeling youthful again. Sometimes this would be exploring the countryside, seeing what humanity has not touched, and running around the fields at top speed. Finding a new path to take or just exploring somewhere new by hiking to a swimming hole, or even just walking around somewhere new and taking in all the details so you can recreate them in a drawing to share with people and to look back on years from now. During my experience simulation, I walked along paths in the forest by my house and took in every detail that nature provides. I would look at a fallen tree and remember being at my cottage climbing a falling tree and wanting to hang off it. I saw all the leaves changing colour and remembered cleaning up the grounds of my family farm and then wanting to jump into the colourful pile. My experience gave me memories of when I was younger and it allowed me
