Leisure time, each person thinks of something different when they hear this. While reading an essay by Gregory A. Miller about "The Many Benefits of Hiking” I got to thinking what my favorite features and benefits of hiking are. My favorite thing to do in my leisure time is hiking because it calms my mind, it 's great for the body, and I enjoy doing all I can for our earth along the way.
Calming my mind by hiking is one of my favorite things to do in my leisure time. I become so content from being able to forget about the usual troubles that are constantly bouncing around inside my head. Not having to worry if I will be able to get my rent in on time, or worry about if I remembered to lock the front door, which I so often forget to do, it frees my mind up for more happy and productive thoughts. Walking for days alone in the woods brings me such euphoria. A high comparable to one someone would get off of taking amphetamines. Although it may seem like a contradiction to my prior statement about being having a free mind, but when my mind is like this I can focus on so many things. Issues I had before don 't seem like issues anymore, the

Hiking is great cardio, improving your heart rate and also lowering risks of a heart attack. It improves bone density immensely since walking is weight bearing exercise, which will makes it harder to break a bone in case of an accident. It builds and tones muscles at the same time as improving balance. Studies have shown that hiking helps relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety. I mean why wouldn 't it, filling my lungs with crisp unpolluted oxygen, the sound of birds chirping and the wind bellowing through the trees, the aroma of flowers and the sweet essence of a fresh creek, the views from the highest hills and the tallest trees. That is what heaven sounds like to
The wilderness allows people to escape the crazy hectic lives they live daily and just unwind. Chris McCandless was “ unheeded, happy, and near to the wild heart,” throughout his soul-searching journey in the wilderness (Krakauer 31). Many people like Chris will experience different sensations in the serene wilderness, however it calls
"Nature is a setting that fits equally well a comic or morning piece." (Emerson, 388) The cave gave them the sense of relaxation and freedom to discover themselves. Some people go out into nature to disconnect and clear their mind others go to seek answers whatever it may be but it does change an individual. "The surface of the earth is soft and impressionable by the feet of men; and so with the path the mind travels." (Thoreau, 407). Some might see it as if one were running away from problems but it is more as if one were to come back to view it with clear refreshed eyes.
The thing that brings me the greatest joy is physical activity. I love outdoor sports and working out in the gym. During my school years I actively took part in football and basketball competitions, and then with the growing awareness about fitness and general health turned towards the gym. Working out in the gym proves to be a stress buster for me, provides me with increased energy levels and gives me enhanced confidence. This helps me to focus more clearly and bring situational awareness to all my endeavors. My quest to keep testing my limits gives me the confidence to handle new challenges and strive for excellence in all my goals. Exercise and other physical activities keep me calm and make me feel at
...society now classifies leisure as simply ‘free time.’ Time away from work or school, no matter how it is enjoyed, is more broadly defined as leisure today.
My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
In A Walk in the Woods our author, Bill Bryson, hikes through the deadly wilderness along the terribly long Appalachian Trail with his humorously witty companion Katz. Throughout the journey it becomes embarrassingly obvious that they will not be able to hike the entirety of the trail. The idea that they will not completely finish it begs the question; have Bryson and his faithful companion Katz actually hiked the Appalachian Trail? Katz gave his own account of whether or not they have hiked the trail when he states,” As far as I’m concerned, I hiked the Appalachian Trail. I hiked it in snow and I hiked it in heat. I hiked it in the South and I hiked in the North. I hiked it till my feet bled. I hiked the Appalachian Trail, Bryson.” (Bryson 271). Bryson and Katz have had both terrible and amazing experiences along the trail, thus it should be said that they have in fact hiked the Appalachian Trail.
One wonderful ability that people have always been able to do is walk thousands of miles through tough terrain to get where they want/need to go. The exercise known as hiking was practiced all over the world, including the famous Appalachian Trail, approximately 2,184 miles long. The A.T. was “Conceived in 1921, built by private citizens, and completed in 1937, today the trail is managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, numerous state agencies and thousands of volunteers”, as stated on the National Park Services website. The trails path runs along the Appalachian Mountains and through 14 different states stretching from Maine to Georgia. The formation of the trail went through several stages beginning with Benton MacKaye’s idea and planning of a super trail in late 1921. A committee was formed, followed by a conference which years later became the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The A.T. is a great trail to hike for the courageous individuals that are looking for a great time and adventure.
Once you fill your lungs up with fresh natural air you begin to wonder why you would ever go back to a busy intoxicated city again. Right away you feel calm and relaxed. There is something about the comforting green trees that stand so tall above you and make you realize how beautiful nature really is.
Leisure Time or Hobbies: I like to play on my laptop and watch YouTube on it. I tend to be unsatisfied, when I get on it for too long.
the camping and hiking trips I went on as a child and I feel at peace. But
Most of us are aware that spending time in nature is good for us. Not so many, however, can say exactly why this is the case. Although understanding the exact reasons why the natural world can positively influence your general well-being isn’t going to increase the benefit, it might just inspire you to get out there and spend more time in our planet’s very own, natural quality-of-life-enhancer - nature itself. Below, we’ve listed five of these reasons in hope of doing just that…
Outdoor learning activities are beneficial for students’ health, including psychological, physiological. Outdoor learning activities offer students opportunities to move their
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
A leisure activity is any activity chosen for pleasure, relaxation, or other emotional satisfaction, typically something one would participate in during free time. The leisure activity I have chosen to partake in is knitting. My great-grandmother was an excellent knitter and would make my whole family scarves and dishcloths when she was alive. She would give them out as Christmas presents, so I want to carry on her tradition. Knitting is a relaxing and simple task, so it is a great way for me to occupy my spare time and escape the stresses of work and school.
Experiences of Walking and Jogging Course When I discovered that exercise courses are a required part of a degree program, I was less than thrilled. I decided to go walking and jogging because I reasoned everyone can walk. I was unaware of how much adding a walking routine to my schedule would change my everyday life. Since starting this course, I have noticed some health improvements, found a way to get my family involved, and learned to schedule exercise into my basic routine.
