In the current scenario communication is a much needed tool to exhibit the ability of an individual in attaining a certain goal. English is the most prevalent and vastly used lingua franca in the world which supports in shaping career as well grooming personally. Engineers need English in every stage of their life as an important aspect of growth. Engineering English is based on the four main components, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. LSRW skills are the four main components of language. Speaking skill always take the forefront whereas written English is always given the back stage in importance. From students’ point of view, written English is often a perfect collocation with homework, assignments and exams. Hence students tend to have a lethargic attitude towards any writing activity. The lack of competency to express ideas in written format makes them poor performers in exam. The lack of clarity in linking words in written form makes them stand with lack of precision regarding furnishing their Resume. The students never come on terms with the exact differentiation between formal writing and informal writing and hence are not able to impress the recruiters with a commendable written performance .Writing for a special purpose lacks among students that leaves them incapable at drafting content in a professional link that disappoints their performance The most important issue that hinders excellence in writing skill is the mother tongue influence which happens to be the reason for a complex feel among limited proficient learners to attempt to any personal writing that expresses their view and opinion. It is very important for a L2 learner to comprehend these components to attain proficiency in learning English as a second language and all the four factors are equally important. Academic writing and professional writing are very important in an engineering student’s life. Students fail in their career because of limited proficiency in writing skills. It is very important for an engineering student to express what he knows in his exam paper to prove his technical knowledge and expertise. Students miss on good abroad chances for career and higher studies because of lack of written communication skill. Engineering English course which is in the first year for students, is based on the LSRW concept. Even though the engineering English gives equal scope for all the four components, still student’s attitude towards writing skills is lethargic and taciturn. It is wrongly etched in the minds of L2 learners that speaking in English alone could help them in their professional life and they can avoid other components of English. “We do not write in order to be understood, we write in order to understand” (Lewis, cited by Scardamalia & Bereiter 1987). The statement is self-explanatory that a student who is competent in writing will surely fare well in his studies and will be able to comprehend his subject well.
