Supervision and consultation are both beneficial tools that should be utilized by professionals often. Both of these are utilized in order to show that you care about the best course of action to help your client. As counselors, we want to do what is best for our clients. When you are willing to gain other perspective to ensure you are providing quality care for your clients, you are illustrating to them that their wellbeing is important.

When we are working with a supervisor, we are able to work through our personal challenges within the counseling profession. Supervisors are there to help you grow as a professional and also as a person. We, as new counselors will not only see a new perspective from our supervisor, but we will also be able to better understand the steps we should take when dealing with specific issues. The basic knowledge about supervision theories and processes would help them transition into a supervisory role. Even though that the couslor is not that one who is receiving the help, they are still in the hot seat in terms of the expectations that are set for them in this profession. I now know that when I attend counseling, I really can admire my counselor for one listening to my problems and two the amount of hours that he took to complete his profession says a lot about his determination to successes.
