Being a Grade 12 student, I was in a lot of stress because I had to take care of both academic schoolworks and apply to schools. Thus, I decided to focus on several clubs that are very meaningful for me. Firstly, I continued to participate in Z club. One of the most memorable activities we did was to promote Breast Cancer awareness in October. This time was different from last year because last time we only promoted to faculties in school’s media center. This year, however, we decided to promote to the whole school by singing, dancing, and creating a presentation to advance students’ understanding. This year was the year in which the existence of the club was finally known. However, after establishing the club, I realized that having a passionate heart for baking was insufficient. There are various skills needed to run a club successfully other than baking skills and knowledge. Firstly, running meetings is one of the fundamental skills a leader should have. However, it was difficult for me because I used to avoid interacting with people due to being bullied when I was young. One solution I came up was to act confidently and install the mindset that conveying information to club members is vital. After acknowledging the importance of eliminating avoidance, I soon overcame my anxiety. Also, there were some members, particularly girls, who were not responsive due to shyness. Sometimes, there will be difficulties when many clubs ask us to produce over 200 servings in a month, since there are only twelve members. For example, there was one time when Community Service Club, GIN Club, and Red Cross Club asked me to bake for them for different purposes, such as donations to the Fund for gender inequality and earthquake in New Jersey. Originally, I was frustrated by their request and almost rejected them. However, knowing their goal of helping others, I decided to discuss with my club members whether they could handle the stress and communicate with other clubs' supervisors about strategic plans that we could implement to overcome any barriers. Last but not least, to be environmentally-conscious, I have been making appointments with my supervisor to ask her if there are solutions to reduce the amount of packaging used in every fundraising. Over the past few years, Crescent School has made several changes due to stakeholder dissatisfaction. Some of these changes include high school advisory, activities/sports offered, and the graduation ceremony length. The administrative team heard from student and other stakeholders about concerns of the number of activities and sports offered. The team worked together to develop new clubs that students have requested. The time of day the club met was also altered to accommodate additional students participating in the club. Dr. Mork and the administrative team listen to suggestions as they come from stakeholders and do all that is available to implement the change, if deemed possible.
I am a fifth grader at Newnan Crossing Elementary School, I’m ten years old, and I’m Ava Freeman. My favourite color is rainbow because, I love all the colours in the rainbow, I also love to help. I believe that I will be a good Beta Club member because I can help in all different situations if it’s good or bad.
Is adolescence really about fitting in or not standing out? Do you have any responsibility to those students who do not fit in? Do you hear that? Hush, and listen closely. Do you hear it now? The cries for help of the kids who don’t fit in with the crowd. The cries aren’t always loud. Sometimes they don’t make a sound. Stop and listen to them. Take responsibility for those kids and stand up for those kids who won’t stand up for themselves.
I began by tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) and eventually became a teacher at the boys and girls club. The focus of my continued volunteer work was to enrich the children’s after school experience whether they needed help with homework or busy work. During my volunteer work the issue that stuck out in my mid continuously was social class or classism. The BGC emphasizes many different issues and points such as “creating aspirations for the future,” “Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs and also to develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making.” BGC encourages kids to engage in healthy and positive behavior as well as to help the youth build and discover creativity in the arts “Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.” (bgca.org)

With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
The hope food pantry in Chicago consisted of a lot of preparation. we have to make sure we have enough food on what they thought how many people on average was going to show up. We had to bag the food.
It is often said that a person’s high school years are some of the most important and critical periods in their life.During this period, individuals begin to discover their hobbies, interests, and things that are meaningful to them. Although the teen years are often overlooked as tumultuous and full of difficulties, I think it is important to note that these critical stages can be a life shaping experience not only for the individuals but also others around them. One of the many achievements I have accomplished while in high school is lending a hand to my community. Volunteering at my local hospice has not only provided me with essential skills that will be valuable in the future, it has also given me a better understanding of what career path I wish to undertake in regards to medicine.
The relationship between young people and nonprofits can be the start of a significant change in our community, and should be a reciprocal and powerful educational experience. An open-minded and encouraging flow of communication between organizations and community members can be the launchpad for the social and environmental change organizations talk about and try for every day. Together, we can make change – not just a semblance of idealism, but reality, as well.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.

As freshman, we came home from school with the mentality that we were no longer children, but rather had entered into a new stage of life. Everything seemed different and new; we weren’t the big kids on campus anymore. We no longer were the persons being looked up to, but rather were the persons looking up to an entire school of older students. We remember joining our firsts clubs, going to dances, and having Orientation days.
