Being a Grade 12 student, I was in a lot of stress because I had to take care of both academic schoolworks and apply to schools. Thus, I decided to focus on several clubs that are very meaningful for me. Firstly, I continued to participate in Z club. One of the most memorable activities we did was to promote Breast Cancer awareness in October. This time was different from last year because last time we only promoted to faculties in school’s media center. This year, however, we decided to promote to the whole school by singing, dancing, and creating a presentation to advance students’ understanding. This year was the year in which the existence of the club was finally known. However, after establishing the club, I realized that having a passionate heart for baking was insufficient. There are various skills needed to run a club successfully other than baking skills and knowledge. Firstly, running meetings is one of the fundamental skills a leader should have. However, it was difficult for me because I used to avoid interacting with people due to being bullied when I was young. One solution I came up was to act confidently and install the mindset that conveying information to club members is vital. After acknowledging the importance of eliminating avoidance, I soon overcame my anxiety. Also, there were some members, particularly girls, who were not responsive due to shyness. Sometimes, there will be difficulties when many clubs ask us to produce over 200 servings in a month, since there are only twelve members. For example, there was one time when Community Service Club, GIN Club, and Red Cross Club asked me to bake for them for different purposes, such as donations to the Fund for gender inequality and earthquake in New Jersey. Originally, I was frustrated by their request and almost rejected them. However, knowing their goal of helping others, I decided to discuss with my club members whether they could handle the stress and communicate with other clubs' supervisors about strategic plans that we could implement to overcome any barriers. Last but not least, to be environmentally-conscious, I have been making appointments with my supervisor to ask her if there are solutions to reduce the amount of packaging used in every fundraising.
