In a clearly written composition, please describe why you believe the Advanced Placement program is a good fit for you as a student. What strengths will you bring to the program? I offer an immense amount of academic strengths and skills to the Advanced Placement program. To begin with, I excel in science, English, geography/ history and visual arts. My primary interests are in marine biology and the life sciences. However, I use my incredible work ethic to help guide me to success. Science is definitely my strongest subject, but I have the determination to improve in other areas I am not comfortable with. Being surrounded by competition regularly motivates me to work hard and put in quality effort that meets my expectations. I use my …show more content…
excellent knowledge in science, visual, arts and history to help me in my weakest areas. Applying my strengths to my weaknesses is what helps me progress and understand smoother. I have learned to cope with stress and overcome challenges that prevent me from being successful. I might not be a stellar student in every subject; I know how to adapt to changes by managing my work with responsibility and care. As an AP student, Central Peel will provide you with many leadership opportunities. Tell us about how you have contributed your time and talents to your school and/or community in the past. Describe how you will use your time and your talents to contribute to our school community? My contribution to the school and community in the past has been very active and effective.
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning …show more content…

(Central Peel website, Central Peel banner, school visits, teachers, Guidance Councillor, newspaper ad, word of mouth/friend, Gage Park sign, other) I learned of the Advanced Placement Program at Central Peel by several different sources. For instance, students in my school who were applying for this program would constantly talk about it. Also, teachers and guidance councillors have spoken about it throughout grade seven and the beginning of this year. Even though this regional program is fairly new, it is beginning to gain a reputation and is now well known by most Sir William Gage students. To conclude, I've obtained information on the Advanced Placement Program at Central Peel simply through my peers, teachers, and guidance councillor. As a result, I will become a better critical thinker. By applying this knowledge to real life situations, I can make positive impacts on issues that cause harm to the world. I like to consider myself an animal rights activist. My primary motivation in life is to ensure wildlife is respected. Currently, several animals are being abused for ridiculous reasons. The process of killing or torturing an animal is inhumane and barbaric. I dislike seeing innocent animals mistreated so that we can wear their skin on our bodies, or have their limbs stored in our fridges for food. Someday I would love to change this issue and fight for the lives of the poor animals, which do not get the choice to voice their opinions. If accepted into this program, I will develop better communication and analytical skills, which will help me with fulfilling my aspirations in
life. List all extra-curricular or leadership activities (clubs, teams, volunteering, etc.) have you participated in over the last two years? . Over the course of middle school, I have gradually engaged in many extra-curricular activities. Throughout grade seven, I was involved in Chess Club, Green Gators, Red Maple, Library Helpers and Yearbook Club. I have always been a member of the environmental club in school. I found it captivating because I got to participate in an extra-curricular that I had a deep passion for. We collected waste for Earth Day, raised awareness about water conservation, and discussed ecological issues. In Queen Street Public School, I was in the Me to We team. We devised a campaign about donating pennies for water, the food drive and child labour. However, outside of school, I have been active in Girl Guides, Olympic Recurve Archery and swimming. This year I have joined Cross Fit Athletic Development, Visual Arts Club, and Intramurals. Extra-curricular activities are important to me because my past experiences have taught me that joining clubs I am passionate about helps express my individuality.
Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
Throughout my two years in high school, I have been trying to maintain a certain grade point average. I’ve passed two of my state tests already and I have yet to take my English II and U.S. History state test. I passed my Algebra I test in 8th grade with Proficient and my Biology I test my freshman year with Proficient. My grades fell off the first 9 weeks of this school year because I had a hard time understanding English II and I ended up scoring Basic on my 1st 9 weeks benchmark test. Now I have made a promise to myself that I will be advanced in everything from now on. I’ve been studying more and working in my SATP practice booklets and now my grades are improving. When I was in 2nd grade I was accepted into the Gifted/Excel class at Bentonia Gibbs up until my 7th grade year at Yazoo County Junior High. Ever since junior high, I have been in the advanced classes, and I hope that will help me with my plan to graduate as one of the top of my class.
Being in a school that brought students from various counties and cities with different backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives, opened my eyes to seeing just how diverse humanity is. In a time when everyone is struggling with personal problems, I know how monumental a simple volunteer act can be. One of my favorite acts of service is tutoring. I tutored an elementary-aged girl for two years in Fort Lee and I will always remember those two years as the most fulfilling. Education is so precious, and children are the most open to it.
I have the academic background to be able to perform successfully in this program, and the ambition to do so. Throughout my high school career, I have taken only the most rigorous and demanding classes. As of now, I have a 4.44 weighted academic GPA, and have scored in the 99th percentile for both the SAT and PSAT. I am a very active student in each of my classes, as well as a fast learner. I am an excellent student not only in the classroom, but also in athletics, in my working life, and in
The service experience that I enjoyed the most was the Festivice. The Festivice is run by the Special Olympics of York County and was held on January 16, 2016 in downtown York. While I was volunteering at the Festivice, my friends and I had to run the ice sled and supervise kids going on the bouncy house. At the ice sled, I had to collect the sleds after they have been used and return them back to the top. I also had to catch kids at the end of the ice hill. While at the bouncy house, I had to set a timer for three minutes , so that every kid gets a fair amount of time to play in the bouncy house and I had to supervise the kids.
During my junior year of high school, I was an officer in my school’s Interact Club. We usually participate in at least one service trip each month which is coordinated by our activity supervisor, Mrs. Lazzaro. Last year, I reached out to the Activities
I have accomplished a lot in a short period; however, my journey is not complete until I continue my education. Essentially, this degree will help foster my growth and career success. My passion and dedication will speak for itself. My hard work and determination will prevail and I am a fit more than the next applicant because I have the passion, experience, critical thinking and analytical skills needed to complete this program through successfully arguing my capstone in front of a board or committee. My goals are definitely aligned with this program and I hope my next read is an acceptance letter from the admissions council.
I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at the elementary school. It opened my eyes to a few of the problems in our communities. I was able to make others aware of those problems through volunteering and being proactive. I am going to continue with the program for as long as I am able to do so. If only we had millions of these programs across the globe, many other children would be able to benefit and develop the skills to succeed educationally.
For my civic engagement activity I volunteered to be a chaperone for Joel P Jensen Middle School’s Mesa Club field trip to Christa Mcauliffe Space Education Center. I happened to walk into one of the clubs leaders classroom when she was stressed out because she needed a fourth chaperone for the field trip. She had more students going which entailed another chaperone.
In the Sixth Form, I regularly attend the school Debating Society, where I jointly hold the senior most position and organize many school charity events in my Senior Prefect role of Charities Coordinator. In the past, this has included raising nearly £3000 on the behalf of an Indian Cultural Society Fashion Show for the Indian earthquake. I was involved in the establishing of the first ever Student School Council in which I was Year Representative.
I want to share the experience that I got from reading to the little kids in Washington school. This had been my first time doing community service so I was a little nervous, I didn't think that the kids where going to like me. But when I go to the school and saw the lovable little kids I felt much better. When we got into little groups and started reading they started hugging me and reading along. They made me feel good and I was ready to come back next Thursday. This was the greatest experience that I had ever had, I felt like a teacher and it fells great to have those little kids liking you.
I believe I possess particular strengths that will contribute to my success in a graduate program. I am intrinsically motivated, possess a strong desire to remain "on task", and I persevere when confronted with obstacles and difficulties. Also, being a disciplined person, I have developed very useful time management skills to handle my busy work and class schedule during my undergraduate education.
The first volunteer group I am in is Big Brothers Big Sisters. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an amazing community mentor program that I was introduced to by my high school. I get to go every Thursday to Nashport Elementary and spend time with two little sisters, for an hour. When I started this volunteer group I was very nervous; I was worried about whether my littles would like me or if I could even help them. However, once I started, I realized that these little kids just needed someone to care about their day and to listen. I have two littles: one is named Bernadette and the second one is Kylie. These little girls have been through a lot in their lives, so it was very special that they felt comfortable enough to let me be their friend and listen. I did Big Brothers Big Sisters my Junior year, and I am going back to Nashport for my Senior year.
I spent most of my time in a first grade classroom. In this classroom I observed the children as well as the teacher and paraprofessional. This classroom had children with special needs and that is why there was a paraprofessional in the classroom for half the day. What I observed in this classroom was how children with special need should be handle and taught. The teachers in this room loves her job and each student in her class. While in the classroom the teacher allowed me to help with children with their work, read to them and help them with anything else that they needed. During this field experience I got to give back to not only a school, but to a community that is very near and dear to my heart. I hope that I touched each student in a special way, because the students that I got the opportunity to help learn touched my
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
