For my civic engagement activity I volunteered to be a chaperone for Joel P Jensen Middle School’s Mesa Club field trip to Christa Mcauliffe Space Education Center. I happened to walk into one of the clubs leaders classroom when she was stressed out because she needed a fourth chaperone for the field trip. She had more students going which entailed another chaperone. 2. Why did you choose that activity? I chose to volunteer for this activity because it was a once in a lifetime experience. I love Astronomy and Sci Fi. Getting the opportunity to have first hand experience with these two subjects I love is amazing. What benefit to society were you attempting to achieve by participating in that activity? I feel that I am benefitting society by investing in the future leaders. Children need all the life experiences they can get. Being a chaperone allows more students to be able to go on this activity and to obtain an experience that they may not have been able to obtain unless there was another person willing to be the chaperone over them. I was attempting to benefit the school by being available and willing to be the chaperone so they didn't have to spend more time on finding a chaperone. I relieved the staff members stress that if they didn't have that fourth chaperone they would have to choose some students to stay back and not go on the field trip. 4. Do you feel like you have done a good deed? Why or Why not? Yes I feel I have done a good deed. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learned a lot from this experience. I as the chaperone was able to watch over my students making sure they were safe and were following all directions and staying out of trouble. I also did a good deed for the space station by making sure my students respected all rules and regulations of the center. 5. Would you do something similar again? Again, explain why or why
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning

While most scholars agree that homeownership increases civic participation, the underlying reasons explaining this causal relationship are often contradictory. Since I knew who I was volunteering with, I was able to enjoy volunteering with them. It also helped me become closer to some of the girls. I also love kids and teaching them new things. In addition, the topic I was teaching about also interests me so it was easy to teach them something I was very familiar with, I also gives a sense of achievement when I am able to successfully teach someone something that they can pass on to the next generation. I loved the feeling I got from volunteering.
Every time I do some kind of service – I have the opportunity to learn new ideas, discover new perspectives and I've have grown as an individual. By giving back I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a good feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. The title of DNP scholarly project number 2 is Long-Term Outcomes of Service-Learning on Civic Engagement and Professional Nursing Practice. The study sought to determine if a correlation existed between participation in the service-learning experience and self-efficacy toward civic engagement as a long-term outcome of professional nursing education. My dreams are those that will become a reality-- a reality that I wish to transform into. Throughout my life, I have always had the desire to travel globally and help communities overcome social and political hardships. My goals include receiving an education that allows me to create an change within society, and later joining programs such as the Peace Corps. When deciding that I wanted to help families and communities through social activism, I knew that the Citizenship and Civic Engagement program would be right for me. I want to be able to experience a program that not only fosters the significance of taking initiative with social activism, but looks for students who strive towards a meaningful career.
I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at the elementary school. It opened my eyes to a few of the problems in our communities. I was able to make others aware of those problems through volunteering and being proactive. I am going to continue with the program for as long as I am able to do so. If only we had millions of these programs across the globe, many other children would be able to benefit and develop the skills to succeed educationally.

I think this entire experience has been amazing and everyone should volunteer at least once in their life. It might even change their major! I had already planned on working with my community, specifically in the behavioral/mental health area, so this experience just opened my eyes to how much of a difference I can make by such simple gestures. At the Science Museum I helped take inventory as well as help prepare for community services such as the Science Nights and Boy Scout and Girl Scout camp-ins. When I was young, I personally had the opportunity to participate in one of the Girl Scout camp-ins they hosted. I remember how the volunteers worked hard cooking our breakfast and helping with the activities. It was very rewarding to be on the giving end instead of the receiving end. The Science Nights, which are free to the public, are a good outreach to the young students in the community. These nights are a way of making education fun and exciting for the children.
