Dennis willis C++ P4 Will Virtual reality and augmented reality impact gaming technology? Virtual reality gaming could be the future of gaming, or it could be some overrated new gadget that people will play for a month and never use again. Augmented reality headsets are similar to VR, and they could be even more successful that VR. Even though there are several problems with vr and AR, I think that Vr will impact the gaming industry. Because it’s an amazing experience and Big tech companies have already joined the VR revolution. Virtual reality first emerged in the fifties, but it was unsuccessful because the crude graphics caused it not to be lifelike enough for a player to become immersed while playing. Over twenty years …show more content…
Companies such as, Sony, Microsoft, and even facebook who are joining the Vr revolution. Vive is in the process of developing games made specifically for VR arcades, which are arcades built solely for VR games. The games will come with sensors that the users will have to wear to move around in the game. Virtual reality isn’t just for gaming. Non-gaming companies, such as six flags, and movie studios are also experimenting with VR. Three years ago google made the google cardboard. It is a VR headset for phones made completely out of cardboard that allows people to watch vr videos from yout ube or play games. The google cardboard only cost three dollars. Gaming companies use 360-degree videos on youtube to promote their upcoming games. Imagine you are walking home from work, but you get distracted and realize you are in a completely unfamiliar neighborhood and don’t know how to get home. You check your pockets, in an attempt to find your phone, when you realize you forgot your phone in your office. Luckily you have your AR headset on. Instead of asking someone for help, you simply lift up your hand and several icons appear in front of you. You tap the navigation icon, then an arrow appears in front of you directing you on how to get home. This example isn’t sci-fi fantasy. It’s possible now with …show more content…
The first is the pricing of equipment. Virtual reality headsets usually sell from 400 to 600 dollars, plus the console or pc needed to use the VR. Pricing for both the console or pc could cost over a thousand dollars, but vive, which is a company owned by htc, is teaming up with google to make a portable, independent VR headset, that does not require a computer or console to operate. The release date of this revolutionary device is still unknown to the public and will probably stay that way for a while. Until then, those who can’t afford the high priced VR systems like the PlayStation VR, Oculus rift, and the htc vive can get it on their phone. For augmented realty, the Hololens hasn’t released the consumer edition yet. The evelopement edition is $3,000 and the commercial one is $5,000. But, like VR, Augmented Rality games are available for ipone and android. One example would be stack virtual reality, which is a game where the user has to tap the screen in order to stack moving blocks, if they tap their screen at the right time the block will remain the same size. If they don’t the piece of the block that is hanging off the stack of blocks will fall off.. The graphics might not be as good as a console or virtual realty, but there are many different apps and games available for vr on phones. The prices for vr on phones can range from 3 to a hundred dollars. The second
The adjective "virtual," practically unheard-of a few years ago, has without a doubt become the number one buzzword of the nineteen-nineties. Virtual reality has become a catch phrase for the interactive multimedia technologies that have supplanted desktop publishing at the cutting edge of personal-computer graphics technology. The virtual communities which for years have flourished in comfortable obscurity on the Internet, have recently been thrust into the glare of publicity as commercial gateways have opened up the net to the public, while virtual corporations have transformed the world of business.
Virtual reality can be used as an educational tool to assist not only students but teachers as well. Another major benefit of virtual reality is its use in the healthcare field. It can be used to treat several medical conditions such as anxiety disorders, mental health issues such as phobias, and it can even be used as a pain reliever (Matheison, 2017).
The future is a mystery that human beings can’t figure out because of the mindset ideal of the future. A step closer to the future has been the revolution of technology. It has changed society individually and mentally for the reality of the future. However, technology has changed entertainment in the manner of video games. Development to create games has been phenomenal.
“…in the next few years, humanity's going to go through a shift… We're going to start putting an entire layer of digital information on the real world” (Gribetz, 2016). In his recent TED Talk,” Meron Gribetz encourages his audience to consider how such technology could transform the reality that we call the human experience by referencing augmented reality (Gribetz, 2016). Until the summer of 2016, augmented reality did not have a recognizable role in our lives. Then, came Pokémon Go, a game that gave many people their first notable, combined experiences of augmented reality and telepresence on their smartphones.
So what are other things VR is being used for today? Well according to the article titled “Beyond Gaming: 10 Other Fascinating Uses for Virtual-Reality Tech” By Knvul Sheikh ( a staff writer for livescience.com) there are a heedful of other things that are being done with VR. So let’s go over some of them. Well one of the things that Sheikh talks about is Space and how astronauts have been using VR. One of the things that they are doing is that they are using VR technology to control robots on Mars. They also added a Virtuix Omni treadmill to their VR setup and now researchers are able to simulate a walk on Mars to prepare astronauts for a potential human landing. (Sheikh,
The term Virtual Reality (VR) is used by many different people with many meanings. There are some people to whom VR is a specific collection of technologies, that is a Head Mounted Display, Glove Input Device and Audio. Some other people stretch the term to include conventional books, movies or pure fantasy and imagination. However, for purposes of this research, we restrict VR to computer mediated systems. We would define Virtual Reality as a way for humans to visualize, manipulate and interact with computers and extremely complex data.
Virtual art is the product of long-standing traditions in art merged with revolutionary technological advances. With innovations emerging almost as fast as end-users can test and master new systems, technology has dramatically altered our daily lives and changed our thought processes. Like many technological advances, virtual and cyber realities have been embraced, and often created by, artists that experiment with the myriad of possibilities that technology can offer. While there have been many works of art inspired and created by means of digital advances, the medium has yet to be defined and its boundaries have not yet been identified. Since technology and virtual art are just beginning to be explored, the medium is in its infancy and thus cannot be judged based upon traditional mores of art. Before virtual art can achieve prominence and respect within the art world, many barriers of tradition must first be abolished.
Although still in its, infancy, virtual reality will have a substantial effect on our future way of life. Virtual reality already has made astounding progress in the world of commercial design, and it is predicted to have a tremendous impact on everyday life as well. Virtual reality, when more available, will have various uses ranging from recreation to basic communication. The applications of virtual reality into different fields of occupations and research will have both positive and negative effects on our society.
According to Oxford dictionaries, “Augmented Reality” is a technology that provides the user a computer produced image of the real world (“Augmented Reality”). A source states that augmented reality in programing language is the process of combining images and videos from the real world with computer generated data. The development of the new computers has made it possible to engage data with augmented reality. The practical uses of augmented reality started with military instruments such as real time video displays that were being used in airplanes and tanks to detect targets accurately. Augmented reality was also used in video games to increase the realism of the game. Thus, a lot of militaries have used that method to train their soldiers using augmented reality masks by adding equivalent real life time field and enemies (Hosch).
The ability to superimpose real-time computer animation onto the real world is commonly known as augmented reality (AR). AR differs from virtual reality where it requires the real time markers for it to function. It allows merging of virtual information with the real environment to provide users with more immersive interaction with their surroundings. AR provides new experience of the real world that is unlike another computer animation that draws the users away from the real world and onto the screen (Hainich & Rolf, 2006).
Sony is another company that produces items like the PlayStation and Smart TVs. In the future of gaming there will most likely be holograms and immersive environment gaming with temperature controlled rooms and immersive experience witch is directly related to the Virtual Reality systems. PC gaming is becoming faster and has the ability to outdo consoles with the power capabilities of larger processors and graphics cards and the ability to have a more considerable amount of RAM built into them because they have more room to work with inside the pc case. Virtual Reality gaming is the future of gaming because it is cross compatible through most gaming platforms. Virtual reality, or, VR as it is sometimes referred to as, is a system that enables the wearer to experience reality through mostly visual feedback inside of a headset and experience the environments(s) located within the game.

Gaming is one of the largest growing communities today. With a total of over 79 million unique subscribers within the gaming category on YouTube, and huge annual gaming conventions held around the world, virtual gaming almost seems a sport.
Virtual Reality Technology The World of Virtual Reality is getting closer and closer to Neal Stephenson’s idea of the Metaverse in Snow Crash. In Snow Crash, the Metaverse is a world very similar to the world that we know it as, but with one major difference, none of the Metaverse exists. All of the Metaverse is a simulation. The Metaverse has everything that today’s world has, with many additional features. It has all of the buildings, streets, homes, and everyone is represented in what is called an avatar.
There is no denying the fact that VR is the future. If you see industry trends, the rate at which VR is becoming mainstream is staggering as almost 75% of the biggest corporations are now investing in this technology. They see the potential and the interest the people have and are constantly working on improving the current virtual reality systems.
