Gaming is one of the largest growing communities today. With a total of over 79 million unique subscribers within the gaming category on YouTube, and huge annual gaming conventions held around the world, virtual gaming almost seems a sport.
Gaming has become so popular that annual conventions are held worldwide. One of them being MLG (Major League Gaming) the largest gaming convention in the world. Since it was founded in 2002 MLG has hosted millions of viewers. In June of 2013 20,000 people packed into the Anaheim Convention Center to attend the league's Spring Championships. Like all team sports the crowd cheered for their favorite team. However, rather than running a ball across a field, the teams battled head to head in online multiplayer games.
Rows of seats surround a stage at the head of the room. Two long desks lined with computer monitors face the audience. Teams sit behind the desks focusing intently on the screens in front of them. Enormous screens hang against the wall facing the audience. Realtime footage is projected onto the screens with added emphasis of slowmo...

Imagine for a moment, a world of death. For 200 years your family has been sealed away with a thousand other people, to protect you from the dangers outside. Now your father has disappeared, and it’s up to you to find him. After a harrowing escape from your subterranean home, you walk through a tunnel to the outside world, past dead bodies, stretched out in front of the door, as if to say “don’t leave us out here to die!” As you walk through the gate to the outside, and as your eyes slowly adjust to the sun you have never seen, a wasteland emerges before you. The world is devastated, destroyed and annihilated. Broken twisted hunks of metal lie next to a sign on the side of the mountain saying “scenic overlook” on your right, the broken remains of the interstate bridge stand as a monument to a destroyed culture. Petrified trees are all that remains of the local fauna. Off in the distance, all that remains is destruction. While you may think of this stunning visualization of a wonderful novel, this is actually one of the opening scenes from Todd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios’ “Fallout 3.”
The director’s concept was again realized in a very creative and simple way. The stage crew did not have time to literally place trees on the stage, or to paint a border that elaborate—the light made the slatted walls look real and really allowed the audience to become a part of the experience.

As a college student, it has become increasingly difficult to enjoy playing video games. With all of the work piled onto me each and every day, I get lucky to spare a few hours to play every once and a while.
Video games started as arcade machines with simple graphics and even simpler stories, soon evolving into home gaming with The Magnavox Odyssey, the world’s first home-gaming console. It invaded living rooms in 1972, selling 300,000 units. Since then there has been many consoles and games released, some have been huge commercial successes which
center with the pool tables and a line of arcades in front of me. At least nine to twelve players are gathered around 2 gaming arcade machines in front of me. The two main popular ones that are of interest would be the Street Fighter 3rd Strike and the Marvel vs Capcom 2 machines. The gamers are heavily immerse in watching the players and cheering them on. I am observing four players playing on two separate machines. The two players who are on MVC2 are wearing both hooded jackets and baggy jeans with tennis shoes. It seems they were here for quite a while. Backpacks are off to the side of the machines or lying around randomly near them on the ground and some half eaten snacks can be seen on the tables nearby. A quick glance around allowed me to take in the surroundings. There are three pool table games in session occupied by two to four players per table. Three girls are having a drink to the table directly adjacent from my stool across the room. My location is near enough from the arcade machines to allow me to easily view the players and note all of what is going on and far enough to remain hidden and unsuspected of recording the scene. I am recording with my Nokia N95 with Carl Zeiss optics 5 mega pixel lens with creative sounds voice amp. I am wearing a zip up hooded jacket and some baggy cargo pants with a pair of vans allowing me to easily blend in as a normal spectator. Soon after, there are at least six to seven guys spectators for the four players. And also noted at ten minute intervals, the losers rotates out with one of the players lining up to be the new challenger of the victorious. The guys seem to be much louder and animate on the MVC2 ...
In this shot the camera moves along the crowd showing how excited they are about the athletes taking part around them. The director uses the tracking shot to emphasise the emotion of excitement of all of the crowd and how this excitement is translated into the recruitment of the Australian light
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.

Role-playing games are becoming increasingly popular in this age due the assistance of the Internet. In these types of game a person can assume a character and give this character a personality, physical features and “live” through them. All though in past years “pen and paper” types have dominated the rpg world, now MUDs are making it possible to role-play along with thousands of others A MUD is a network-accessible, multi-participant virtual reality that is primarily text-based. (Bruckman, 1992). Although the term “virtual reality” often refers to a computer-simulated environment that contains varying degrees of audio/visual interface, this form of virtual reality is mainly text-based. Elizabeth Reid further explains by saying:
Owning a gaming computer is one of the best investments a person can make in their life. Having a gaming computer can greatly influence one’s entertainment ranges and personal hobbies. Every gamer or anyone who occasionally games should have a gaming computer instead of a gaming console. A gaming console only provides people with basic programs and simple user interface while a gaming computer can be used for any needs one need. A gaming computer is one’s own cable box but better. Having a gaming computer you can have it fully customized to fit whatever theme you would like it to fit, can run many programs and other applications faster than a console, and can be loaded with a plethora of multiple useful programs one can use.

In society’s current era of technological advancement, video games have gone a long way since they were first created. Video games in the twenty-first century are no longer just toys or junk in the lifestyles of the youth. They have become innovative inventions that not only entertain its users, but also help aid the people in both the academic field and in jobs. The influences that video games bring about in the culture of the youth today are, in fact, not the negative influences that most people think. Video games are actually this generation’s new medium for educating the youth. The information they learn are also mostly positive and useful things that they may apply in their future lives (Prensky 4). In a generation that revolves around technology and connectivity, developers and educators have already been able to produce fun and interesting games that can teach and train people. Video game developers and educators should continue to collaborate in order to create more positive, educational, and appealing games.
Videos games are no longer played solely for fun, but also turning into a new way to make money. There is a new, up and coming world that many people are not aware of, and that is the world of competitive gaming.
