My parents instilled a passion for reading in me even as a toddler; years later, an excellent, extremely motivational third grade teacher encouraged my writing in ways that all teachers should note. At the age of eight, I was a child who loved reading and writing, and at the age of eighteen, I was a first-year student at State College who decided to major in English. I am now a senior in college (thinking about that fact literally sends a strange mixture of frightened, yet excited shivers charging through my body) and a very different person than that nervous first-year student I used to be. The entire idea sounds almost trite-I've grown tremendously through my college days; however, as I have spent the last three months mulling over what to highlight in this reflective essay, I am being completely honest when I say I have matured into someone the Edna from three years ago might not even recognize. My parents have always stressed the importance of reading. Throughout my whole life, they have motivated me to read and they have encouraged me to find books that I find interesting to read. Because of their encouragement, I am an avid reader today. When I was a child, just starting to enjoy reading I liked to read books that were fiction. Some of my favorite books to read as a child are series that I still love today and I think I still have every book in each series stored in my attic. They are The Boxcar Children, Junie B. Jones, and The Magic Tree House.
Writing has never been a strength I have possessed. English 102 has been difficult and challenging for me because I have had to move past the high school level of a basic book report or a five paragraph paper that has narrowed my ideas of writing for many years. Putting on paper what my thoughts are in a way that is logical and accurate for what the assignment is asking has been hard for me this semester. My ideas are now more involved because I have learned through English 102 how to develop my writing skills in different formats, for example, in an annotated bibliography and a research paper. Persuasion is an art that we meet in all spheres of life; academia, social, political, etc. It has positive and negative outcomes. When one communicates, it is of extreme importance that an awareness of the Principles of Persuasion is utmost in their preparation if they are to make a lasting impression. This paper will attempt to define and analyze the six principles and show them in application.
Persuasion is a process by which the persuader, through communication, gains the approval or support for the topic (Let's Compare Motivate and Persuade, 2013). The arguments to motivate this change in thinking comes through careful use of rhetoric, but one must also be able to define the six principles of persuasion in social psychology: “Reciprocity, Scarcity, Authority, Commitment and Consistency, Consensus, and Liking” (McLean, 2010, p. 521) and be able to recognize them as they are taking place. Then, one must carefully apply these concepts in order to find the means to effectively facilitate persuasion (p. 518).
As I reflect it becomes clear to me that I enjoyed writing my junior year in high school. My English teacher Mr. Duckworth was a one of a kind teacher. His classroom was a normal classroom setting with the desk all line up behind one another. All of his students would face the white erase board that was located in the front of the room. He would typically sit at his desk leaning back in his chair giving us instructions on what was to be done in the class. As we sit in the class, all I can hear are my classmates laughing and joking around as he spoke. he would already have an essay topic on the board that was to the right of us that he could easily see from his desk. This was an everyday routine for all of his classes. As we begin to write, I noticed how different classmates of mine would get up to ask for help with their essay. The students who never asked for help usually would end up with a lot of red markings on their essays.
Hamlet, a young prince preparing to become King of Denmark, cannot understand or cope with the catastrophes in his life. After his father dies, Hamlet is filled with confusion. However, when his father's ghost appears, the ghost explains that his brother, Hamlet's Uncle Claudius, murdered him. In awe of the supposed truth, Hamlet decides he must seek revenge and kill his uncle. This becomes his goal and sole purpose in life. However, it is more awkward for Hamlet because his uncle has now become his stepfather. He is in shock by his mother's hurried remarriage and is very confused and hurt by these circumstances. Along with these familial dysfunctions, Hamlet's love life is diminishing. It is an "emotional overload" for Hamlet (Fallon 40). In my view leadership and management are two different aspects which are equally important for development of any organization. Both are interdependent sometimes depending on certain situations. Leadership is something which imbibes the quality to inspire, motivate, build trust and relationships, provide ideas and make some spontaneous decisions accordingly; whereas Management is something which involves balancing all factors responsible to run any kind of organization.

I also remember as young girl learning how to read and my favorite book that I could quote word for word was “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr.Suess. I loved that book so much I still have that today. As I got older my love for reading and books started to diminish, I went to a private school for my elementary years and their curriculum was very intense. It was required to read a book from their approved list and complete a book report each summer before the school year began. Not to mention the numerous books reports I would have to complete during the school. At an early age books and reading was something I had to do and not what I wanted to do.
In my opinion, persuasion is the process of presenting your main idea to an audience and getting that audience to accept that idea as truth. Social psychologist Robert Cialdini penned these six principles of persuasion that are tools in helping you to move your audience closer toward accepting your idea or thought; the principles are Reciprocity, Scarcity, Authority, Commitment & Consistency, Consensus, and Liking (McLean, 2010, p. 538-540). In this essay, I will provide definitions for each principle of persuasion. Also, I will provide a situation where I was tasked with persuading someone at work to do something that I needed help with. Lastly, I will evaluate my application of the six principles of persuasion.
Leadership and Management are two very important positions to have for anyone in an organization. Both of these positions come with a great deal of responsibilities; however, they both serve two different purposes and responsibilities in an organization, along with a different sent of guidelines. They can be in the television, news, friends, classmates, teachers, co-workers and just simple individuals who wants to make progress in their projects. Persuasion is how we influence someone’s attention of what way we want them to act or tell about us or on the things that we want to be known. Persuasion may be too easy for most business people, but for simple individuals it would be hard. Persuasion has to come in certain language usage. If you know that language that you are using, you know how you are going to persuade people around you.
