Over the years I have spent working on my education, I have encountered numerous teachers who have had a significant impact on who I am as a person and how I conduct myself. One such person was an English teacher of mine Mrs. Schwartz. She was my teacher for honors English 10 and advanced placement English 12. Mrs. Schwartz was always a very kind woman. She always encouraged us and pushed us to do our best. She was like a mother figure to those in her classroom; it was obvious she cared about each and every one of us and how to help us reach our educational potentials. I still remember when we were assigned our end of the year portfolio, I chose a short story by Neil Gaiman to analyze. Unbeknownst to me, Neil Gaiman was a favorite author of
Antoni Gaudi considered himself to be directly connected to Gothic styles through his art and architecture, deemed Neo-Gothic. A Spanish Architect known mostly for his dabbling in Art Nouveau. Gaudi is the best known example of these types of structures. Bordering on the fantastical and fluctuating between real and imaginary, his works make you think twice and leave you awestruck, much like the impressions of the original Gothic structures. La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is one of the best known buildings in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005, it's construction began more than 120 years ago. Starting in 1882 with a man named Joseph Bocabella, the basilica as we know it today would not have been possible without the changes of Antoni Gaudi starting in 1883. Prior to his involvement, Bocabella, a

mother discovered this underwear and punished him” (2001, p. 259). Confused about his sexuality, John decided to keep his thoughts a secret from those who would be able to help him the most, his family. Sparks argued that, “It is well documented that many male sexual deviants were themselves sexually abused as children and some evidence exists that this was true also for John Wayne” (2001, p. 259). Therefore, by Gacy experiencing this sexual abuse as a child, it most definitely could have been a major indicator for his murderous behavior in the future.

Mrs. Plot, one of the hardest English teachers in Murray County High School, was my teacher that year. She was a very determined and driven teacher that did not tolerate her students to fail her class, even if they were lazy. I had heard horror stories from her former students, but she was nothing like they said she was. She was the only teacher that I have connected with all throughout school. I looked forward to her class every morning because she always made learning fun. Mrs. Plot gave out good advice about English, but she also gave me personal advice and was more of a friend to me. She always knew what to say to me when I had problems. She motivated me to do better with my writing; we went to a journalism class together every week that year. Mrs. Plot deepened my love for reading and writing. Without her, I would not be the kind of student I am today. On every assignment in her class, I got the most feedback and it helped me out a lot. It took me a long time to become a decent writer, but with her help she sped up the process. I put all of my effort in every single paper I have written, especially for her
Gabriel José García Márquez was born on March 6, 1928 in Arataca, Colombia. Born to Gabriel Eligio García and María Márquez Iguarán, the first years of his childhood were spent with his maternal grandparents. In 1936, Márquez won a scholarship to the Colegio Nacional, a school near Bogota, and received his bachillerato in 1946. Choosing to attend the National University of Colombia in 1947, Márquez had his first short story La tercera resignacion in El Espectador, a local newspaper.
Mr. Perry Weissman may be the greatest teacher that I have ever had. He doesn’t teach his students about English like he probably should have, but instead about life. He was 71 years old and had been teaching since the very beginning of my old high school; from the very first class, he showed his wild personality and kindred spirit, and everyone could tell it has lasted all 40 years of teaching. He is a giant health freak and always ate organic food (which probably explains why he has been teaching for so long), no matter what he would always offer some of his healthy food just because he didn’t want anyone to eat junk food. Mr. Weissman changed my life in one day by teaching about life, death, and purpose.
Throughout our lives, we have the opportunity to interact and learn from scores of individuals. Whether it is our friends, family members or co-workers, each person has the ability to make an impact on our lives, both positive and negative. One individual who has had a positive impact on my life is Mrs. Shannon Winchester, my former Advance Placement United States History teacher at Weddington High School. Yet, after I concluded my time in her classroom, she not only became a person I deeply admire, but someone who I aspire to become one day.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr. “We are on this earth to fart around, don't let anyone tell you different.” This quote by Kurt Vonnegut, an influential author, describes his writing and attitude towards life perfectly. Vonnegut’s literary style was very creative, with a hint of gothic qualities. Vonnegut was an American author from the 1950s, however his amazing works have held their popularity into the 2000s. Kurt Vonnegut’s exposure to the cruelty of war caused him to write in such a way that invited his readers to see the world through his eyes, earning more recognition than awards, Vonnegut impacted the minds of many through his short story, “2BR02B”.
Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr. was a Jamaican civil rights activist, political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and speaker whose beliefs on African-American identities and rights would later be known as "Garveyism". Unlike previous African American leaders, Garvey encouraged a Pan-African philosophy aimed at advancing a global movement of economic empowerment. Pan-Africanism is a movement where the goal is to unify African people or people living in Africa, into a "one African community.” Some of the important things that Garvey founded were the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL), the Black Star Line, and also part of the Back-to-Africa movement. The Back-to-Africa movement supported
On October 14th, 1919, four shots rang throughout Harlem. A searing hole is charred into a leg and another singes a crown. On this very day, the fight for black nationalism was almost put to a stand-still.
In eight grade, my language arts teacher took the time to begin the remediation process with me for my dyslexia. She helped me to understand words better and to know that I could conquer my most difficult aspect of spelling and reading. It was then that I realized that I could do more and all it took was hard work and the desire to do it. This was a turning point for me going into high school. My English teacher in high school, for my freshman and senior year, was also someone who pushed me to do more. She encouraged me to creatively write and helped me to develop more understanding of the English language. She worked with me and other students to bring out the best of our abilities and to explore who we were as readers, writers, and to learn more about the structure of the English language. These two teachers were an amazing influence in my life
extremely motivational third grade teacher encouraged my writing in ways that all teachers should note.
When I was growing up, I remember attending elementary school, learning a new language seems to be difficult at first, but I was able to learn the English language because of the dedication of one of my teachers. Now, as I reflect on this experience, it is obvious that she was dedicated and enjoyed teaching her students to be successful. I know today that she made a difference in my life as I navigated through my education experience and high school years to present.
