I am very happy today, and in fact have been for the last few days. When I went to work all of my co-workers commented on my smile and the joy that was emanating from me. Some of them thought ‘new boyfriend’ while others asked if I had won the lottery. As much as I wish either of those were true, they weren’t. The fact is, I finally was able to enjoy myself and go swimming, something I haven’t done in i don’t know how many years. Now you may think that it is a trivial thing, but when you have a full head of hair like I do, well it is not trivial at all. You see in my family and in my culture it is a sign of beauty and wealth for the women to grow and wear their hang long, and I mean very long, like past the shoulders going towards the buttocks. Obviously this takes a long time to accomplish and once you start you don’t want to stop and start by getting different hairstyles and haircuts, you just want to let it grow and grow till it gets down close to your butt or more if possible. …show more content…
Anyway a few weeks ago one of my cousins told me about a swim cap that she used on her vacation to Baja California. Now my cousin has much more hair than I do so I had to see this swim cap. And guess what, it is all that and more. I mean getting my hair into wasn't a problem. It was a godsend. It had been years since i was able to truly enjoy myself at the beach or in the pool. For so long i didn’t want to get my hair wet and damaged by the chlorine or nasty salt water, but now i can. and that is what I have been doing, each weekend for the past few weeks now, just enjoying myself at the pool without fear of getting my hair wet or affected by the
inundated with this idea of what “good hair” is, to the point that it seemed natural to force that same ideal upon me.

The theater has continued to make an impact on American culture even today. Just like in the 20th century, civil rights has been a hot topic in the 21st century. Multiple shows, including Hairspray and Caroline, or Change, clearly display the effects of racism and the importance of the civil rights movement. Hairspray follows the story of a young Tracy Turnblad who is fighting to desegregate the Corny Collins Show. The musical celebrates black culture and displays healthy relationships between whites and blacks. U.S.A. Today wrote that, “with a message about accepting ourselves and each other while celebrating and embracing our diversity, this Hairspray felt more relevant,” showing that even young audience members can find the story relatable

The successful achievement of a task: an accomplishment. There are different ways a person can be successful and for each person, it may be a different achievement or task they have completed. For me, it was getting into Mr. John’s through the technical academy my junior year of high school. In case you don’t know, the tech academy allows you to leave school after fourth period and go to a college credited class, such as engineering, firefighting, and, of course, cosmetology. Cosmetology is something I’ve been interested in doing since as long as I can remember. My freshman year, I made a plan for myself to be in tech my junior and senior year and then continue to Paul Mitchell to further my career goals. Although I did not continue Mr. John’s into my senior year for personal reasons, my plan was still to continue into Paul Mitchell Schools. I consider this to be my greatest achievement because it launched me into schooling for my biggest passion. With my acceptance into this program, I received an early start, which gives me the opportunity to graduate
One balmy summer morning my friends convinced me to come swim in Grapevine Lake, which would be very enticing if I was a strong swimmer or had any swimming experience whatsoever. However, I’m not going to ruin a good, scorching summer day staying home wasting my time playing video
It was finally time to swim. I finally came up with a plan and decided to swim in the deep side of the pool even though I didn’t know how to swim. I knew it would work but I was also scared. As I walked to the swimming pool, everyone laughed at me again for wearing a speedo. I dived into the deep side of the pool and noticed everyone was staring at me in amazement. Then I swam up and hung onto the side of the pool. Everyone was shocked and puzzled. Even the girl I liked looked surprised.
Swimming has been my whole life, since I jumped into the pool for the very first time. I loved every aspect of swimming from the adrenaline running through my body during my races and getting to spend even more time with my friends and my sister, and the stress of big meets coming up in the schedule. Except everything didn't go according to plan after the first day of school when I got home and I saw my parents sitting by my sister on the coach and my sister was crying.

Today was moving day. I was so nervous. I just getting to board my airplane and I remembered that I am leaving New York forever. I started to cry at the airport and I was really embarrassed. But, then I new that I was going to get a little sibling, so that cheered me up.
