Have you ever had a moment in time that seems like minutes or hours even though it was only a few seconds? Have you ever seen everything before you play out in slow motion, where you are aware of everything around you, yet not knowing what was going on? I have, and as I look back on it, I feel very blessed and protected. On December 22, 01, I decided to take a little swim in our swimming pool and almost drowned. I still can remember it like yesterday. This incident almost cost me my life, I was disobedient and it still has a big effect on me now. It all started when it was my seventh birthday party. There was a certain girl I liked. So I decided to show-off and do crazy stuff to impress her. First I tried drinking soda off the bottle but I spilled it on the rug. Everyone laughed so hard that their heads fell off! The girl I liked just sat there, not smiling. For my next attempt, I tried to wrestle my friends but I ended up breaking a lamp. Everyone laughed again. I thought about what I could do to impress the girl I liked. It was finally time to swim. I finally came up with a plan and decided to swim in the deep side of the pool even though I didn’t know how to swim. I knew it would work but I was also scared. As I walked to the swimming pool, everyone laughed at me again for wearing a speedo. I dived into the deep side of the pool and noticed everyone was staring at me in amazement. Then I swam up and hung onto the side of the pool. Everyone was shocked and puzzled. Even the girl I liked looked surprised. When everybody left to get cake, I had to clean up the swimming toys. Because one toy was in the middle of the deep end of the pool, I dived into the water. I picked it up and tried to swim up. My hair was stuck to the ladder! I didn’t know what to do! Running out of oxygen, I tried to yell for help.
This one morning while we were all on vacation at Panama City beach, we all woke up at the right time. We saw some dolphins passing by our window and it was so awesome. We watched them pass until we couldn’t see them anymore. Since we were all crowed up around each other I figured it would be a good time to tell my family the plans that I have for the day ahead. I told them that I wanted to go to the pool and so we went to our amazing hotel pool. I was too short to stand anywhere other than the 3-foot area, so when I wanted to go anywhere else I could touch the ground. The pool had these amazing water slides but I was too short to ride on them. I could ride on the smaller one, it went so fast!
I've always liked Fall. I like the falling leaves and warm spice drinks and chilly air and nice sweaters and the generally spooky vibes. Fall is a good time for me. Nothing beats it, not even the summer. The most important part, though, is Halloween. Halloween cotumes, loads of spooky-themed candy, costume parties, scary movies, everthing about it was something I looked forward to all year.
A five-year-old girl who is unable to swim is drowning in a pool, where the depth is ten feet. She is incapable of communicating for help and continuously gulps copious amounts of water while kicking her legs and flinging her arms frantically. A young boy who is learning how to swim notices her desperate need for a rescue, but is too hesitant to do anything due to his fear of deep water. He then realizes that he does not want a young girl to die just because no one was able to come to her rescue, and builds up the courage to enter the deep end of the pool. He dives in just in time to rescue the drowning soul and conquers his fear of deep water, all because of courage.
I sprint up the stairs to my shabby apartment, taking them two at time. I've had a long day at work and I need to jump into the shower before I meet a client for a dinner date. I fumble for the key with my right hand. When the stubborn door finally opens, I fly into the apartment and kick the door closed behind me. I punch the play button on my answering machine while getting ready to take a shower. The first message is from my client saying he will be a little late. Good. Ten extra minutes. The second message is the chairman of the Person of the Year contest telling me that I had been...
“Failure isn’t fatal, but failure to change must be” – John Wooden. Wooden is trying to bring the positives out of failing rather than the negatives. For example, my championship little league baseball game, my team and I failed to win. After the game ended it affected me in a depressing way that made it a sad moment that we all worked so hard to get to, and give it up so easy to lose where I would never get a shot at redemption because it was my last year in the league. Almost like that year was a waste that we threw it away. Though I did not want to be negative about the situations, so I looked at the positives and I thought no matter how hard we all tired and all the effort we put it is was not a waste, the hard work and dedication brought us all so close that we learned how to work almost as if we were one.
I am an undocumented student at UC Davis. When I am asked a simple question such as, "describe your personal experiences", I ask myself: Where do I begin?
I was being held under with no idea when I may get up, getting tumbled and dragged along the ocean floor. Each chance I pop up and gasp for another breath of air another wave crashes on me causing me to choke on the salt from the ocean. This has been my experience in high school, and once I am graduated it will feel like I can finally catch my breath and ride that first wave.
Suddenly we were attacked with water spraying from a tree. We screamed and ran from the bounce house. Realizing it was Johnny and Connor, my two younger brothers, who came running out of the bushes chasing us. Laughing as they got us drenched with water, we too stated laughing as we ducked for cover. Somehow Gabby gets hold of the hose and retaliates. They were just as soaked as we were. By now we were slipping and sliding all over the place giggling and joking. Turns out it wasn’t such a bad birthday party after all.
Marines share a special bond with one another and believe it is their duty to help each other in times of strife. They depend on the person left and right of them to potentially save their life. It is ingrained in every Marine to aid others in trouble. Personally, I know from experience because I was a Marine. Let me reminiscence of a time when I was a young Marine. When I went to great lengths to aid my fellow Marine. It is nothing big, but it made an impression on the fellow Marine and made a lasting friendship with his family.
I have to do what I need to survive. I am technically kicked out of my host family's house on the weekends since they want nothing to do with me. They are just required to give me shelter while I am there because that is what they signed up for. While I am “sleeping” I will sneak into the parent's room and reclaim my stolen belongings, since they are my private property. I will then get food with my money, and then I will find a way to charge my phone to contact my friend and get me the heck out of here. I actually have a plan, and it is going well.
just got home from school. I grabbed a snack before I started playing NCAA 08. I picked the Florida Gators and I was versing the Vanderbilt Commodore. I was halfway in the game when my sister came down stairs and yelled,
On that fateful day in March, I was a couple months shy of my third birthday. My family and I lived in New Mexico at the time and were renting a house with an outdoor in-ground pool. The day was beautiful. I was outside with my oldest sister Rachel and my father. Rachel was diligently reading curled up on a bench that sat against the house, and my father was mowing the backyard. My mother and my other sister were in the house. Off to one side of the house there was a group of large bushes. I was playing over there with one of her large cooking pots, off in my own little world. At one point while amusing and en...
pool once and took off my shoes and shirt. Not knowing I was at the deep
It was dark that night, I was nervous that this dreadful day was going to get worse. Sunday, October 23, 1998 I wanted to start writing this to tell about the weird things i’m starting to see in this new neighborhood. Gradually I keep seeing pots and pans on the sink suddenly move to the floor. I would ask my sister but she is out with my mom and dad getting the Halloween costumes. When they got home I didn’t tell them what I saw because i've seen Halloween movies and I have to have dissimulation otherwise the ghost will come out and get me first. October 24, 1998 I think I got a little nervous yesterday with the whole ghost thing. 12:32pm, Went to eat lunch with the family today and I go to get my coat. I heard the words furious and madness,
So one day after school my older brother took me to the gym. After I changed into my gym clothes in the locker room, I sat nervous on the patted mat by the rock climbing tower/boulder waiting for the instructor to walk in and other students to show up. After a few minutes the instructor walked in. She smiled really big, so big that I saw t...
