When I think about how running has impacted my future, I think back on what running has provided me with so far. Running has kept me fit, both mentally and physically. At the end of a day’s run, I can guarantee, I am entering my day with a clear head and a body that is ready to learn. Even when I was faced with injury, running has allowed me to set goals for myself and I have achieved those goals. Some years, the improvement was not in the times I achieved but in the overall physical condition. I have also been allowed to maintain friendships with people who have goals similar to mine. They too want to get better and faster. Because this sport allows us to spend a great deal of time running in unison, I am certain these are strong friendships that I will maintain throughout life. We have spent multiple hours on a daily basis sharing stories, spinning tales, planning out next adventures. As a young child, I sustained a crush injury to my foot. It was not anticipated that I would walk without a limp much less run a competitive 3K or 5K. I ran on the school varsity squads in both middle school and high school. In middle school this took place only months after a surgical intervention was necessary to correct bone growth in my leg. I am proud of my accomplishments! All these experiences help me face the future and know that I can rise to any occasion and will be able to meet adversity and will be able to succeed. I have also learned that not all things are easy in life. I had to work hard and push myself to achieve my goals. This will be true in any opportunity. I will approach my college life and my educational goals with the same mindset. I can do whatever I set out to do. Sometimes the trail I take may need to be a bit different, but the end result is the same –
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
I always heard that college would be tough, but I went in to college with a set mind that I was going to finish strong and at the end be successful. I kept my head focused and always made sure to get my work done no matter how hard it was.
I am now officially in my Senior year of Cross Country , and am close to the end of my season. My first race of this year though was a big accomplishment for me, because I hadn`t been able to run. When I ran that race though it made me just so happy I was able to finish it, I was`nt happy with the time, but there is always time for improvement. I was glad to be racing again and being apart of the team again. I believe that my injuries were a barrier in my way, but they did not stop my sports career.
I am a runner. I was selected to be a cross country captain for my senior year and I had set myself a realistic goal of being one of the top five finishers at the state meet in the fall. I never had the thought that I could not do it; I knew I was going to be up there with the best. When the state meet came and I traveled with the team as captain, that race became one of the most memorable of my cross country career but not for the reasons I expected.

Saying that every day at practice I would drive to finish the workout in order to get much better from where I started. When I began, I ran my mile in 11 minutes and 54 seconds, last year my fastest mile was 5 minutes 58 seconds. I like telling people that I weigh 190 pounds and can run a mile in six minutes. Another concept I have learned from my participation in running is teamwork. No matter how hard we try, we cannot live our lives without others' help or without helping others. We must work together to succeed on the road ahead. This is the essence of teamwork. I know that even my personal success in cross-country and track is not solely mine. I know that my three district titles, one in cross country and two in track, in the 800 meter and 1600 meter runs, could not have been accomplished without my team's unequivocal support and for that, I thank them.
...ool, I can say my mental attitude has changed greatly. I know that being in a better physical condition has definitely improved who I am. I no longer am limited in the things that I do by what my body thinks I can handle. Being this way has made a much happier person and more confident in myself and who I am or can be. Since I have been running I have had more positive emotions compared to the negative ones. I am depressed and upset a lot less, and have become a much brighter person. I believe that everybody should at least try to get themselves into a good physical shape, not saying they should get themselves to be able to run miles on end, but at least get in some kind of good physical shape. It would really surprise some people how much it would affect them. Thanks to my grandpa, Will, and most importantly, running, I am a better person, physically and mentally.
