Baby Golden Retreiver – E My dog is a golden retreiver and he is the cutest and fluffiest thing in the world! R When he was a little puppy, he could climb up stairs, but not go down them! He would constantly get stuck on the stairs and whimper! It was the cutest thing. Band Competition – E I am always very outgoing at band competitions! I alsolutely love them. I take pictures, and give high fives and I just have a great time talking to people there! R I think doing so lets me meet really amazing people. I Love doing it and I cannot wait to do it again at the upcoming competitions I will be going to! Basketball Bloody Nose – E Brett Kleeschulte elbowed my in the face during practice one day, and the next think I knew there was a blood pool …show more content…
on the floor. I hadn’t realized it at first, but my teammates did. Coach just said ‘Go’ and gestured to the bathroom. R It is an awesome memory of how brutal basketball really is. Cross Country Meet – E This year I am doing cross country and I set a goal for myself to finish to 5K without walking at all.
I have never done cross country before, and I had never finished the 5K running the whole thing before. At the Arcadia Valley meet this year, I did just what I had wanted to do. I not only finished the race without stopping to walk, but I passed a grand total of 8 people, pushed the last 400 meters as hard as I could, and I lost four minutes from my original time! R To say the LEAST, I am extremely proud of …show more content…
myself! Debate Districts – E Last year for debate club, we prepared the best we could and went to Jackson high school, which was maybe three hours away. We had prepared debate cross fire and speeches for every scenario we could think of for this meet, and we were hoping to survive the day. Debate meets can be very intense. Although we prepared rigorously for the challenge of debate, the work was futile, because the meet was set up incorrectly. We debated the same team twice, so we received no points for conquering them. This caused us to be held back from semi-finals, though we should have gone anyway, because we should not have debated the same team twice. R Although that meet was set up incorrectly, they will not be hosting anymore, and we will work even harder for this years upcoming district meet! Debate State – E This experience was extremely professional, and I think impacted my life greatly.
I watched debaters school other debaters, and spit neverending fire towards their opponents! One debater I watched ace 50/50 in a debate and then move on to win state and go to nationals (which he achieved fouth at). R The amount of things I learned in the days we were there was absolutely astounding. The experience was eye-opening, and created a very strong influence on me. Driving – E My parents freak me out when I drive. My mom gives me conflicting directions and then yells at me about it, and both my parents are always nervous! My dad likes to hold on to the ceiling handle when I drive. I asked ‘Why are you holding that,’ to which he replied, ‘ It’s convenient.’ Right. ‘Convenient.’ Only convenient when I drive! R When they get nervous, I get nervous, and driving with them is a nerve-racking chore. Drum Major Camp – E The people in band are absolutely amazing. I went to this week long camp at Missouri State University to work with professionals of the craft of directing. With leaders of all shapes and sizes around me, I stood on stage to recieve the ‘Best Leadership’ award from the college band director himself. R The people at this camp were absolutely life-changing, and I will remember it well for many years to
come. Game-Winning Basket – E It’s tied, 20 seconds left in the game. Basketball had started as something to try, but at this point I was ready to roll. Stakes high, both teams fight for the upperhand with no prevail. The next thing that happens is my muscles take over and I feel the play like water. The ball is passed to me and I score my 4th layup in the game, leading us by two points with 15 seconds left in the game. R The game winning basket was one of my greatest memories from playing basketball as a freshman. I will remember it well. *Haircut as a Kid – E My dad was giving me a haircut on his own, with a razor. My dad finished my haircut by cutting my hair to a significantly short cut, a buzz-cut. (keep in mind I was about 5), my dad gives me a bath as I sob a little. He says, ‘Don’t cry, you look just like daddy!’ And I only cried more. Because my dad – is bald. R I really like this memory, but I feel bad for insulting the baldness that is my dad :-D Math Competitions – E I went to the Mineral Area College Math Competition two years in a row and recieved 3rd place in 7th grade and 2nd place in 8th grade out of 9 different local schools! R I was and am very proud of this acheivement! Most Outstanding Student Award – E In 8th grade, two students, a boy and a girl, were chosen by the staff to receive the Most Outstand Student Award. It was a very high honor, and the recipients weren’t told they were selected. Only two out of the entire class of students were chosen, and I was one of them! R I was very proud of this acheivement! It definetly meant a lot to me. Soar – E I was selected to be in the gifted program in 3rd grade, and I was in it until the end of 8th grade. Soar was a class for above average students who needed above and beyond challenges. These students had the smarts to work much further ahead, and we spent much of our time doing very advanced work. R I am extremely happy I was selected, because Soar gave me a sense of identity very early on. I was looked upon as smart. Trying New Things – E I’ve decided that I will try as many new things as I can during high school, and that is not always easy. I tried basketball, cross country, debate, and more. None came particularly easy to me, but I’ve learned to adapt to them. R I beleive these endeavors will help me exponentially in the future. *Waking Up Late at Debate Camp >;-D – E During debate camp, one of my dorm mates woke up very late in the morning. Me and my roommate decided to play a little prank on him. We stacked every chair and table in the dorm suite against his door. The minute he would open the door, it would tople over! Somehow he managed to keep it stable when he opened the door, and made it out alive! But the idea was very fun. R I had a great time at that camp.
Band is family. When your student walks onto campus, he or she is instantly adopted into the strongest society on campus. They will be spending their school days among the top achievers on campus, with fellow students who look out for one another and steer each other away from trouble instead of towards it. Teachers, staff, parents, and volunteers watch over all the kids as if they were their own.
I'd like to make sure that freshman weren't scared about Drumline. To help them know they had someone who could help them with music. I would try my best to build the Drumline up as a whole and to make sure that I was only saying positive things to build others up. I would love to try to avoid that because the Drumline to me is a family. We all may fight but deep down we all love each other, care for each other and don't want to see anyone brought down. I would try to do create activities during band camp to make it much more fun. I also think a leader should have the basic knowledge of all the instruments in the Drumline and Pit so that he or she would be able to help anyone that's struggling with whatever it may be. Also, a leader should be very devoted to whatever he or she is a part of. He or she should really practice a lot for Drumline and make it a habit of focusing mostly on Drumline. I've seen how I have grown in the last few years from just practicing and sitting down and going through stick control and even just
The Yorkshire Terrier is described to have personality. He is active, very overprotective, curious, and fond of attention. He is easily trained and learns quickly. He thrives on the love and affection of their owners, which is easily done because of their adorable stature and cute looks. The normal yorkie weighs seven pounds, but the small dog can reach up to fifteen pounds. The yorkie is the seventh most popular dog in America, according to the American Kennel Club, and it only takes one glance at his face and you realize why.
Freshman year of color guard was a wakeup call. Since I joined late, a “big buddy” got assigned to me to teach me what I missed. She terrified me. She was the only sophomore buddy and everyone
Looking around and seeing bright lights and feeling all eyes on you. Hearing both sides of the stadium cheer and shout for their teams and getting nervous during the last few seconds of the second quarter and at the same time being very proud of what the band has accomplished in the brief amount of time it took to learn the pretty intense and complex drill. Then suddenly you get the adrenaline rush that pushes you to perform. Many people would agree that being a drum major is one of the most eminent positions that is held by students who are Being the Drum Major of any band shows that you have the respect and trust of the members of the band and it’s directors. It also shows that you are passionate about what you do, responsible and that
When the cross country season started in August I became a mentor for the new runners. I was still a runner but now I was doing my running through my peers. During each practice I would lead everyone in stretching and would follow with encouragement on my bike during runs. The freshman looked up to me as if I were an assistant coach and I knew I had done the right thing in being there every day for
One of the biggest decisions of my high school career came my sophomore year when I decided to try out for the role of drum major in my high school band. This decision was very tough to make due to the fact that I was a sophomore, and although I already had three years of experience under my belt as a band member at Northview High School, I knew that it would be very tough to earn the respect of my peers if I succeeded in becoming drum major. Out of the three years I had spent in the band, the biggest influence on my decision to try out came from my very first marching season, between August and December of 2012. From that year forward, after seeing many areas that the band could improve, watching how underclassmen and middle school band members
Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. It is truly a talent and a hobby that I hope to continue through college and through life because of the joy it brought me and creative outlet it was throughout my
Marching band is a very broad field to participate in. High school and college band both have specific criteria they have to meet during marching season. But what are the differences and likenesses between high school and college band? In high school band, there is one show to perform and there are many long, grueling hours spent perfecting and fine tuning it. The show is not only for halftime spectating at football games, but also band festival and regional contests. High school band has a more stern outlook because the entire season is spent working for placement, whether it be superior or not. Some bands have a more difficult time working considering obstacles such as size. Bands can range anywhere from only thirty to two hundred. With upperclassmen
It is about who I am off the podium. For the past five years (I marched up as an 8th grader), I have been proving something to these people, so that they trust me in this position. The character of drum major or leader is one I have been perfecting since I was a freshman. For a long time I was just an actor trying to be a character. Eventually, I had acted the part so much that I became it, and it was my role. I give respect to receive it. I build real relationships of with members to achieve trust, accountability, and effort. When people are torn up inside because of their home life, which is quite frequent in Lenoir City Tennessee, I am their shoulder to cry on, or a set of ears to vent to, or a buffer to dull their anger. When people are frustrated with me for some reason, I seek them out and learn what I can do different. When there are five flavors of gum stuck to the floor of the band room at 11:30 on a Friday night, I get on my knees with a plastic fork and start scraping. When the band director constantly yells at me for this that and the other, I take into account the criticisms and practice harder. The band and the director see this character I have transformed into, or maybe the one I have always been, and that is why I have the honor of standing on the podium and wearing the gloves. I have become the band’s teacher, nurse, cattle driver, answer dispenser, and friend. Somehow, those all add up to leader. I refuse to let them down, rather I lift them
For years Golden Retrievers has been in the top five on list of Americas favorite pet breeds. While looking at the breeds golden locks and outgoing behavior its clear to that these are just two of the many reasons why the breed is so loved. If a person ever gets the chance to meet a golden, they’ll soon see why the breed is so lovable with its people pleasing nature. However, on a more serious note Golden's are now starting to branch out of its ‘Americas favorite show dog’ reputation. Nowadays cancer researchers are discovering the breeds scientific potential. Recent studies have shown that Golden Retrievers could lead scientist to the cure they have searched
Upon learning the position of Drum Major has an opening, I did not immediately consider pursuing it. Simply being able to play my instrument in band was enjoyment enough, or so I thought. Pondering the idea more thoroughly, I came upon the realization of all that I could accomplish musically holding the position of Drum Major. I realize that this opportunity has many potential benefits in regards to my future. Being Drum Major would allow me the opportunity to hold a broader leadership position in the band than my currently held position as section leader.
People have wondered why some of their Labrador Retrievers are black, brown, and some of them yellow, and here is why. So I will be investigating on why that is.
Golden Retrievers are one of the finest family dogs in the world with trustworthy, demonstrative, cheerful with everyone, and exonerating nature due to mistakes made by amateur owners. They make great comrade for families with children because they love to play fetch, chase, and even hide and seek. When bonded with a child they will spend endless hours playing together in the yard and smart enough to learn not to be too rough when returning a fetched ball or other item .It is capable of...
When I was six years old, I hated car rides. To a six year old, a car ride was the epitome of boredom. There was nothing to do on a car ride except sit there for hours watching the trees. I would get carsick every single time I was in my mom’s Volvo. If I wasn’t sick or bored, I was waiting painfully in the backseat for the next exit ramp so my mom could turn off the road for a bathroom break. My mom would have to bribe me with candy or some other special treat just to get me in a car everyday. Some six year olds were afraid of monsters and doctor’s visits; I was afraid of the car. About ten years later something happened, a change. When I finally got my driver’s license at age sixteen, I was no longer afraid of the once dreaded car ride.
