Colin Powell suggests that “Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence.” I appreciate this quote because it summarizes my academic and social experience in High School. Throughout my high school career, I have grown from a uninvolved, laid back student, who did not care much about his studies, to a student achieving great academic heights, and not only getting involved in the community, but becoming a leader. I have aquired wonderful leadership characteristics, communication skills, and volunteer experience. My objective is to pursue a career in the field of ___________. Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in many different clubs. During my freshman and sophomore year, I was in clubs such as the Academy of Engineering, tech club, DECA, and tee-shirt design club. I found myself joining clubs but not taking on leadership roles as I should be. As a Junior, I truly showed myself how much of a leader I can be. at our school. I also joined the National Honor Society, where I got selected to be an officer for my senior year. I was also a member of the teacher cadet program where I would stay after school and tutor freshman in the subjects of English and Math. Additionally I would travel over to the local Elementary school with a couple of friends, and we would assist the children with their reading skills. My honesty and social skills opened a lot of leadership roles for me. I am very honest in the fact that I messed up academically my first semester as a freshman. Being honest with myself scored me a spot as a Student Ambassador, where I lead freshman orientation, guiding freshman to make the best decision possible to avoid the academic mistakes I made. My communication skills have evolved from being scared to present a project to the class, into one of my best features. I am able to speak to all audiences, young or elder, male or female, I seem to be able to connect with whoever I am speaking to. My social and communication skills have not gone unnoticed as I have been named co-president of Creek Chaos. Creek Chaos is the student involvement club at my high school, where I plan the themes for our student section at sporting events, plan activities to do before sporting events, and so on. I was selected for this role because I know how to talk to my school and be able to understand what they want and give that to them. Furthermore, I was selected as the social leader of Junior Class Council and the publicity director of National Honor Society, so this assures that communicating with my school is one of my strong suits. My community has given a lot to me growing up so it is my duty to give back to my community as often as possible.
I donate a lot of my time with the Mallard Creek Optimist Club, whether I would be serving as a camp counselor during summer camps, participating in community park cleanup, or serving dinner to the sick and elderly, I have always been there to help. One of my most proudest achievements with the Optimist Club was winning the ‘Reel Optimism Video Contest’. The ‘Reel Optimism Video Contest’ consisted of a small group of individuals who worked together, directing and editing a short film about a service event we did for our community. Receiving first place in the video contest earned my optimist club a $1,000 grant. As I mentioned earlier, I also give back some of my time in the form of tutoring through the teacher cadet program at my
school. Looking back at my experiences, accomplishments, and achievements, in the areas of leadership, communications, and community involvement, and having the hunger and drive to want to accomplish and learn more, I believe I bring a lot to the table and would be an excellent candidate for a career in the field of __________________.
Clubs were a great way for me to expand my interests outside of athletics. I was involved in Key Club and FCA freshman year and I enjoyed meeting new people and making a difference in our community. I was inducted a member of NHS junior year and this was a great way to make service a priority.
Leadership is an art that evolves over time. My experience has allowed me to obtain the key principles that make me a leader. Recently, I became President of Denver South High School Key Club. A self-funded group, that provide student with leadership and public service opportunities. It provides student with a lifetime experience and allows their leadership skills to grow. As the President, I coordinate and organize events that allow members to serve there community. With a very strong team, we are able to accomplish our duties as leaders.
Throughout everyday tasks in the classroom, or outside of school, I step up and lead those who need to be led. I constantly find new opportunities to lead others and help the situation any way I can. Every summer the band has a marching band camp for a week straight that we must all attend. Being an experienced band member, I step up and assist all underclassmen and show then where to go and what they need to be doing. Instead of getting frustrated when giving the freshman directions, I am calm and collect and walk them step by step until they understand, something most leaders would not have time or patience for. With many plans to help others and lead within my community, I believe that I have what it takes to be a strong, and powerful leader for the National Honor Society.
Involvement in marching band, field hockey, and various other activities has given me many opportunities to show leadership. My first leadership opportunity was in eighth grade when I became a WEB leader. While I was a WEB leader, I helped incoming sixth graders get adjusted to middle school life and find their classes on the first day. I also met up with the sixth graders in my group once a month at lunch and got to know them while I asked how school was going and helped them with any issues they had. In marching band, this past season I was a marching captain for my section. I helped the freshmen learn to march, demonstrated proper marching techniques for others, and gave advice to anyone having trouble with part of our marching show. Ways that I would recognize staff members is by organizing events such as Teacher Appreciation Day or by reaching out with social media. By organizing Teacher Appreciation Day, the staff members of Cal High would be rewarded with awards that represent the appreciation the student body has towards them and for all the work that they have done. Students could make cards or posters throughout their classrooms and could have their peers sign them by writing thank you notes or expressions of appreciation. Students that highly value their teachers could also recognize them by rewarding them with class parties or small gatherings that are dedicated to appreciating
This is when I decided to try and become a member of the student council. I was elected and soon loved it. My school is very important to me and I wanted to do my very best to make it the best possible high school experience for not only me, but every student that attends White Bear Lake. I found that was helpful to have many different views on the council, and I think I brought a new view that was not accounted for before. Being a hockey captain my senior year, I was elected to be in Leadership Academy. This group meets and talks about how to most effectively lead our sports teams as well as the school. This is very important to me because as a leader I want to set the best example possible for my peers and this group allows me to improve my leadership skills to make them even better. I value this program very much because I think it will help me to succeed in the future, because these skills are lifelong skills to have. I have also became a math tutor for my classmates. Since I was a young girl, I have always aspired to be someone who lifts people up and positively impacts my community. Throughout the past few years, I have taken on several different leadership roles through organizations that I have participated in. The skills I have developed from these roles has given me the opportunity to grow into the inspiring woman I used to dream of within my school, with my friends, and with my family.

When reflecting on my leadership styles, strengths and weaknesses I am rushed with thoughts, memories, regrets and actions of personal ways that I have handled past situations in the work place and ways that I plan to handle new situations at my new work place. I have had many successes with the way I handle my leadership role but there are also things that I wish that I could go back in time and change. The way some situations are handled, I think to myself, well this could have been done differently or I could have done this instead of what I did to enhance the outcome of the situation. There is always room for improvement in whatever job or task someone takes on and this is just one of those things. During the development of my PLAP, I have had the chance to weigh out my strengths and weaknesses of my leadership and it has been very effective to seeing where improving needs to be met. The plan has also let me evaluate the direction I hope to head in to achieve my leadership goals.
Leaders will no matter what have an influence on our world. They have missions, dreams and ambition, and with these things they are bound to go far. For leaders, what makes these dreams come true is having strong qualities such as leadership practices, values and strengths. When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
