It was a summer of 2000 during my first year of my high school, the soccer tryouts had just been announced. I was so excited to hear about tryouts, and I couldn’t wait to start playing for my high school soccer team. I met with the soccer coach of the High School team to discuss my interest to become a part of his team. The coach was very impressed after the meeting, he told me he had never met a person that has so much ambition of playing soccer and he couldn’t wait to see me to be a part of his team. I was fully confident in myself that I would make the team and impress the coach in the first soccer tryouts, after a few days had gone by, the physical check-up form had to be filled by a family doctor, and returned before the tryouts. I rushed
I’ve had many memoirs in my lifetime. But by far this one is the best one. This memoir happens during freshman year of high school. It was the start of soccer tryout and I was super scared and nervous. I did not know what to excited of tryouts because I didn't know if I was good enough to play soccer or what you even what you did during tryout. Later on that day I meet the coaches and the team that I Would be trying out for. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be but I still wasn't comfortable at the tryout yet.
I remember in six grade I was really interested in basketball. So before the basketball tryout I practiced very hard every single day to make sure that I can make the basketball team. I still remember that every single day I would practice for 2 hours everyday. So as the tryout got closer I felt like I improved a lot. It was in October when the tryouts took in place. I still remember that it was a 2 day tryout Friday and Saturday. On Friday night while everyone was stretching and getting ready to do drills. I felt very nervous and I felt like I didn't have any strength and I almost couldn’t move my foot. When the tryout begin I did terrible, I couldn’t make layups, I traveled, and I was scared to do anything when I got the ball. The tryout continued, every time when I got the ball I just passed it right away. I didn't even think about if I had a good look at the rim. So after the Friday night tryout I was so mad at myself because I knew I could have done better than what I just did. So that night I went home and just imagined what I could have done better and I was trying to get my mind ready for tomorrows tryout. On Saturday when everyone was stretching I was thinking about being confidence and shoot the ball if I had a good look.
Imagine what the world of college football would be like without Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow was homeschooled throughout his life, but was able to play football at a local public high school in Florida throughout his high school career. The controversy of home school students playing in public school sports has been going on for many years. According to the Home School Leaders Defense Association (HSLDA), there are currently 21 states that have already allowed homeschool students to participate in public school extra-curricular activities, while other states are still debating, including the state of Alabama. The HSLDA, states that " In 2016 the Alabama High School Athletic Association amended its bylaws to allow homeschoolers and other 'non-traditional'
There are many possible reasons on why my high school football team was unsuccessful this year. Some of those reasons may; graduated seniors, underclassmen not seeing playing time, injuries, the coach being too much of a friend and more. It’s important for our school to have success in sports. We aren’t the most successful in academics. Most students go straight to the work force instead of college. If we don’t perform well in athletics, then we pretty much get no recognition, which in small town is really important. West Central (Winchester/Bluffs co-op) was founded in 2004. We have always had a successful basketball team, but our football program has had struggles. Particularly this year, the football team had the worst season since the co-op. They finished the season 2-7 and ended with a seven game losing streak.
When I was 9 years old, I played indoors soccer, everything was all good, I practiced with my team, our coach, had a lot of problems, tony was one of best members of of the team, he had of lot of foot power, I was bad I hated the sport, my mom asked me if I wanted to join, I said yeah because I did not want to hurt my moms feelings, my mom got all esatic, when we had our practices, I was okay, until, when one of our games.
Imagine if a group of people went to the school board to try to convince them to discontinue sports in high school, how many of you would be upset because of this?
“I would love for a regular student to have a student-athlete's schedule during the season for just one quarter or one semester and show me how you balance that. Show me how you would schedule your classes when you can't schedule classes from 2-to-6 o'clock on any given day.” said by Richard Sherman. Richard Sherman is right. Living the life of a student athlete is a hard thing to do, we have to go to school, go to practice/games, do our homework to get good grades and stay eligible, and get eight hours of sleep. The life of a student athlete is a more stressful way to live than a non student athlete, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Football is most commonly described as an aggressive, daring, and intense sport to most, which in reality it is, but it is also practiced, sharp, and alive. It is described as a game with eleven players on each end of the field with two different teams, earning points by carrying a brown, leather ball across an end zone, or kicking the ball over a crossbar, and the team with the most points after sixty minutes wins. In this game, true passion lies as a team and within one’s self, making it a game based on vision and motivation. Not only do the players have the heart for the game, but people from all over the world join by being supportive and involved, which creates a remarkable fan base.
There is 420,000 registered NCAA student athletes in the United States that are receiving helpful benefits as a result of school sports. Multiple people will argue that school sports are not beneficial to students even though school sports are very helpful, and here are three reasons why school sports are helpful: school sports develop good citizens, school sports make long-lasting friendships, and school sports lead to better educational ties.
In my teen years, unfortunately, I was only praised, by family and peers, upon my performance in the soccer field, when and where I believed at the time I had a purpose. I was an avid player and I knew If I became a pro I would be making thousands of dollars to give back my family. My aspiration fell shockingly my junior year in high school, the most important academic year in high school. I tore my hamstring brutally exercising the day before soccer season begun. I didn’t ask for medical treatment and acted if I knew I would be fine. At the time, I was aware that my parents owed a lot of money to credit card companies and also multiple family members. I did not want them to spend a dime on me for what thought was a simple injury, but I was wrong to think so. I couldn’t stand back up for about a month, I was incapable of walking for two months and unable to jog or run until half-year later. I could not regain my condition ever since and I struggled in my return to school two months later since my injury. I gave up on both my goals and my academics. Depression kicked in and I’ve never been the same person since the incident. Before athletics, I was conforming to an unhealthy and criminal-infested culture that introduced me to a life of wrong-doing. I participated in gang-altercations and drugs. My motive of conforming such a life initiated when my grandparents left to live back to Mexico without even saying goodbye. Then matters aggravated when my step-father drinking problem worse making my home turn into tumultuous hell. I felt abandoned and frightened. My escape was this lifestyle that I do so regret. This conformity stopped one day, on my way home walking, in a garden trail when a young homeless man confronted me and a pal, who was accompanying me and also was part of the unlawful lifestyle. The homeless man took
It was a chilly and calm evening when I observed my brothers and his friends play soccer. I watched them deluge with sweat as they thrust each other while dribbling the soccer ball. Witnessing their thrilling and electrifying game has emboldened my heart to yearn to play soccer. I hastily scrambled home that evening to ask my parent if I could join the school soccer team. My parent and my uncle were sitting in our living room sipping tea when I erupted through the door that I nearly asunder the whole house. I was catching my breath as I blurted out my request. My enthusiasm and my excitement were quickly obliterated by my disappointment when I heard their answer. My parent had told me to just focus on getting good grades, and on top
It was in the middle of March and the last months of my eighth grade year. My school year was ending great. It was time of the year in which soccer season was about to start, truly I was excited about joining the school soccer team. Immediately after trying out I was the first person picked on the team. I was also named captain and would be the face of this team, it was an incredible feeling. Soon the season would start, however two days before it started my life would have an one-hundred degree turn. It was the middle of practice when suddenly I started to vomit , before I knew it I had fainted. My lack of nutrition led me to an illness which gave me a
I never understood how visualizing a football field could ever help me to cope and understand my school life. Realizing, how far I am in this game, I have so many more yards and experiences to struggle through. A simple metaphor explained to me by my dad, that I now understand, has put my life in perspective.
Being a student athlete in high school takes commitment. It is hard work and dedication to both school and the sport you are participating in. If you plan on being an athlete at Imlay City high school you must focus on being a good student first or you won’t succeed. Coaches here know that being a student always comes first as they have told me so themself. As a student athlete, I have been influenced by sports. It has played a part with my career goals, and how I relate with my family.
It was the start of summer 2002, and the Mid America Youth Basketball (MAYB) national tournament was taking place in Andover, Kansas. Along with the rest of the team, I was excited to play some basketball for the first time since the middle school basketball season was over. Our team, Carlon Oil, had been together and played every summer for the last four years. We were a really good team, with an overall record of 65-4 over those four years and were hoping to continue our legacy. Lonnie Lollar, our coach for the summer, was also the coach of our high school basketball team. I had a history of groin injuries, and every summer it seemed that I would have to sit out at least a game on the bench icing my groin. But this summer was different, and I along with everyone in the gym wouldn't have expected my summer to end with a injury such as a broken leg.
