There are many possible reasons on why my high school football team was unsuccessful this year. Some of those reasons may; graduated seniors, underclassmen not seeing playing time, injuries, the coach being too much of a friend and more. It’s important for our school to have success in sports. We aren’t the most successful in academics. Most students go straight to the work force instead of college. If we don’t perform well in athletics, then we pretty much get no recognition, which in small town is really important. West Central (Winchester/Bluffs co-op) was founded in 2004. We have always had a successful basketball team, but our football program has had struggles. Particularly this year, the football team had the worst season since the co-op. They finished the season 2-7 and ended with a seven game losing streak. One of the most important reasons the team struggled was because of the seniors that graduated. After the last game of the football season last year, Coach Graham said “This is probably the most athletic class I have ever coached.” Even though we only graduated eight football players, those …show more content…
Drew Barnett, the best defense player who graduated said “We don’t have many athletes, but the athletes we have aren’t football players. They have the athleticism to be great players, but they don’t have any football smarts.” He was right in saying this, the lineman worked hard during the off-season, but they didn’t have the footwork to get around the opposing teams line. The defenders also bulked up in the off-season, but they couldn’t seem to figure out the correct way to successfully record a tackle. I went to every game this season and a majority of the time it took more than one person to record a tackle. The running backs became faster, but they were hardly ever to find the hole the line made for them. They were fast but didn’t know where to run the
America’s Team Will the real “America’s Team” please stand up? This term is widely used throughout the media when referring to the Dallas Cowboys. “America’s Team” was first coined some 40 years ago while introducing them for a feature film by the legendary sport writer Bob Ryan. In the following years, because of their success and mass media exposure they were a team that America as a nation could identify with ,so the name stuck. The Cowboys since those days has regressed into a very mediocre team who only looks for moral instead of actual Super Bowl victories.
...k now through everything. We should know no matter what we are put through, we can always come out on top. Our determination as a team lead us to do what many believe that we could not do, winning the state championship game against the nation number one team making the Pearland Oilers Texas Division 5A State Champions.. Even though the damages of football can be permanent over a long period of time it changed my life and I would do it all over again.
Since 2005 the Philadelphia Eagles have saved 3 million dollars because of the environmental work they have done and 100 percent of their energy comes from reusable sources. ("Smarter Business: Greening the Games") To start off, most NFL teams have charities and donate to charities, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. Also, they help out with the environment. Teams have a special way to pick players around the league and in the draft for their team. To add to that, NFL teams and especially the Eagles keep a close eye on the player's health and how to keep them healthy. I want to start an NFL team and have the franchise based on the Philadelphia Eagles. There are many cities in the U.S. that are suitable for teams and there are a lot of things
The team has become united and they continue to win their way through. They even had their own special warm up before the games started. The school also has become more united after the winning streak of the football players.
The first day we got there we had started off so wrong by arguing. We weren’t doing well and we argued most of the time. Us as a team, we honestly made ourselves look bad in front of the coordinators and other teams that were watching us. The coaches had given us a real big pep talking about sticking together as a team to make us better. Although we didn’t think we needed it, it actually
...igure out that the game has evolved. The philosophy of football is simple, in that, if something’s wrong then fix it. Penn State has fallen apart and the only way to salvage their football team is to part with Paterno.
Abstract: High school football in the state of Texas has become out of control. The sport is no longer played for the sake of the school but rather has become a Friday night ritual to these small towns in Texas. The players are no longer just high school kids inter acting in school sports but have now become heroes to these small town communities. Communities simply no longer support their local high school team but rally in pride of their hometown rivalry against another team. School administrators and coaches no longer are teachers and mentors for the kids but are the equivalent to what in professional football are team owners and "real coaches". Parents have become agents and sacrifice their jobs and homes so that their child may play for the right team. Finally the fans, the fans have lost the sense that it is just a high school sport and changed the game to a level of professional sports. I plan to prove and show that for all these reasons Texas high school football has become out of control. It is no longer the game that it was originally meant to be.
Money. It’s the motivation to succeed for most people. But when playing football in college the players aren’t allowed to be compensated for playing on the team,
In just an instant, someone’s life could change forever, and things will never go back to the way they used to be. Sometimes it is only something as simple as a broken arm, but in the chance that it is something worse, don’t let McKeel or any other school have a football team. Imagine if this happened to you, and your whole life changed because of an accident while playing a sport in high school. Don’t risk the chance of that happening, because nothing will be the same after that.
Why not try to improve the game for the athletes? With only four years of players getting to experience high school football, why not make the best of it?
First, college basketball has paid off by losing its most talented players to the NBA as many as three years early. This has resulted in not only an overall lessening of the game, but in certain circumstances caused the downfall of once great basketball programs. This is how it happens, as colleges recruit players based on what their needs are or what they will need shortly in the future. So let us say that one school has a great core of sophomore and junior players for the upcoming season. The coaches do not have the need or the room for many new top-notch players.
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will”. Being a football coach requires someone who can be a great communicator. This person needs to understand communication on both sides an individual can not just demand that it's a one way street where you talk and athletes listen. The career of coaching requires history of the game knowledge of the game, extensive education, and positive and negatives aspects of the game.
Natalie stated, “It still frustrates me that too often in D.C. and in many other schools systems the football players kind of funnel through for their athletics and nobody ever really coaches their brain.” Natalie also teaches biology at a high school. Natalie Randolph also said, “I have a lot of things in place like study hall requirements and teachers to help out to really make sure that that part isn’t forgotten. I make sure that the boys know that part is important to me. They can’t practice if they don’t get that done.” I think that it is very rare for a coach to want their students to fully balance athletics and academics. Most coaches just want their players to not fail so they won’t have to get kicked off the team. Clemson College understands that most of the student athletes will not become pro when they graduate. For that reason, Clemson provides programs in leadership training, social media awareness and personal finance. Clemson also has Tiger Trust which allows any athletes who leave campus in good academic standing to return on athletic aid to complete their degree. Clemson college focuses more on the success of student-athletes who earn their degrees and who impact their communities. Nearly 8 million students who play a sport in high school, but only 480,000 will compete in a NCAA school. And only a fraction of that group will become professional. In
As far as football goes, the GSL has become the laughing stock of the state. No team in the entire GSL has entered into the state tournament more than ten times. Shadle Park has only gone to the state tournament a few times in the school’s history. So why is the GSL performing so poorly in relation to the other school districts? The GSL students lack experience. The GSL has no football program for junior high students, while its competition, the Big 9, does. The majority of the GSL cannot play football until their first year of high school. The Big 9 districts fund and support junior high football programs in their schools. This gives the players of the Big 9 a two year advantage over the GSL schools. Players need more time to attain the knowledge and skills needed to play the complicated game of football. Learning the plays alone can take most of a player’s first season. Beginning this challenge in high school when competition is at an extreme can be very discouraging to new players. The GSL must start up a publicly ran junior high school football team so that it can regain its honor and enter its position as a strong competitor.
This time spent on sports makes focusing on grades virtually impossible. As Salim Furth puts it, “if a star receiver decided to focus on academics and scale back football practice, he would be dropped from the team and lose his scholarship.” Many schools instead choose to enroll athletes into “paper classes”, classes that require almost no effort to get an easy A. The way that the NCAA currently works, players can leave college with no scholarship, no professional contract, and no
