The military was such a huge part of Omer Goldman’s life she never questioned it (Omer Goldman). A trip to a small town called Shufa shocked Omer (Omer Goldman- Moral Heroes). She crossed a place where they wouldn’t let children pass to go to school and started talking to military guards then all of a sudden they got a call to open fire at innocent people (Omer Goldman). Omer then realized that after high school she would have to do injustices against the most innocent people (Omer Goldman). She has been to jail two times for her refuse to go to war (Tell Israel). Who would imagine, George C. Wallace an American hero. Strong, courageous, noble and thoughtful are a few words used to describe a hero. Merriam-Webster (2014) dictionary defines a hero as a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities. Among several historical and controversial leaders, George Wallace and Gilgamesh are considered great heroes. However through their individual journeys they both learned how to humble themselves for the greater good of their society.
Ideas abound of what true heroism is in this day and age. To some, a true hero may be the person that led their favorite sports team to a championship. To others, true heroes are the doctors that helped a loved one get better from a serious illness. Some even see the person that gives them inspiration on a day to day basis as a true hero. To many, however, a true hero is so much more than that. To many, a true hero is the one that goes the extra mile t follow a strict moral code, both at home and in the public eye. A true hero is the one who will stand up for what he or she believes and what is right, no matter what the consequences may be. A true hero gives hope for humanity to the masses. Atticus Finch, from Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird is one who possesses all of those attributes of heroism and more.
An English proverb states, “ A hero is a man who is afraid to run away”. I agree with this proverb, because when you see a hero in a comic book, they have super cool back stories, are not afraid to fight, and stare danger in the face and not blink. They are not afraid of anything. That’s nice to look up to, but they are not real. Our definition of a hero is too much for one man to become, you can do something honorable, heroic, but you will never actually be a hero because it's too much, in real life. Heroes don’t just do it so they can get paid, or respect. What really determines whether someone is a hero is if they choose to do something about it in a bad situation. We have people that do heroic acts, for example, people putting their lives before others. Those people cannot be heroes because they get paid to do it, they are, firefighters, cops, and military, they get paid to help people, so they aren't considered a hero.

Heroism. Heroism is “heroic conduct” or “courageous action”(“Heroism”). People throughout America’s history, and the world’s history, for more than hundreds of years, have satisfied the standards of heroism, rising above and doing what is right. Heroism doesn’t have to mean saving somebody’s life. To be a hero, one does not need a cape or a villain to fight. Exhibiting acts of heroism can be as small helping retrieve a cat from a tree or as large as helping put out the fire of a burning building. Whether one’s acts of heroism are miniscule or major, they occur every day by ordinary people, proving their extraordinary abilities. After World War II ended, many acts of heroism were displayed that are still remembered today, specifically involving Operation Little Vittles. Over two million citizens living in West Berlin were doomed, cut off from the outside world by the Russians, praying for a miracle. Their wish came true when a handful of pilots agreed to drop thousands of tons of food and fuel from the air in Berlin. One of these esteemed pilots goes by the name of Gail Halvorsen, who changed the situation of the Russian blockade for the better. Halvorsen made the daring decision to drop thousands of individual packages of candy to all of the sweet deprived citizens of West Berlin. Pilot Gail Halvorsen contributed a daring effort by flying day in and day out dropping candy all with the hopes of trying to improve the awful conditions for those involved in the blockade, putting smiles on people’s faces and living up to the standards of heroism.
The word "hero" is so often used to describe people who overcome great difficulties and rise to the challenge that is set before them without even considering the overwhelming odds they are up against. In our culture, heroes are glorified in literature and in the media in various shapes and forms. However, I believe that many of the greatest heroes in our society never receive the credit that they deserve, much less fame or publicity. I believe that a hero is simply someone who stands up for what he/she believes in. A person does not have to rush into a burning building and save someone's life to be a hero. Someone who is a true friend can be a hero. A hero is someone who makes a difference in the lives of others simply by his/her presence. In Tim O'Brien's novel, The Things They Carried, the true heroes stand out in my mind as those who were true friends and fought for what they believed in. These men and women faced the atrocities of war on a daily basis, as explained by critic David R. Jarraway's essay, "'Excremental Assault' in Tim O'Brien: Trauma and Recovery in Vietnam War Literature" and by Vietnam Veteran Jim Carter. Yet these characters became heroes not by going to drastic measures to do something that would draw attention to themselves, but by being true to their own beliefs and by making a difference to the people around them.
Whether accidental or intentional, aspects of our lives have shown us that there is a hero inside every one of us, but the choice lies inside the beholder to act on these skills or let them remain hidden. A hero isn’t necessarily someone running around in tights with a cape, what it means to be a hero has been revolutionized by many aspects of our new society. A hero in our new society can widely be defined as someone who decides to abandon their own needs and wants in order to attempt to help others in any possible way even the tiniest. There is a great evil that has an arisen in this great country that deserves an equal opponent to help stop this evil and this is where my future lies. The evil that has engulfed our world

Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
When you think about heroism, who comes to mind? Did you think of someone such as Superman, Sherlock Holmes, or your parents? Regardless of whom you choose, what characteristics of this hero embody your ideology of heroism? Historically, heroes were bronzy men with bulging muscles who slew villainous oppressors. Yet to my own belief, modern-day heroes are not required to be physically adept, but rather, heroes need to be authentically driven to overcoming oppression to fortify strength.
Heroism can show itself in many shapes and forms from ordinary people to heroic and courageous people something to think about is that anyone can show heroism. A lot of people have shown heroism just by doing the right thing such as just helping someone or not acting mean towards others. heroism can show itself in many different forms but sadly some ordinary people don’t get recognized for the heroic acts that they do. Many different people just don’t recognize heroism from ordinary people as they just think of superheroes and supervillains. In reality anyone can achieve heroism as long as they strive for it. While ordinary people can sometimes not be recognized for acts of heroism, these heroes are courageous and can defeat all of the challenges

There are plenty examples of what everyone thinks is a hero. You have your classic well-known heroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman..etc. Then some others say that just ordinary people are heroes. People who do small things that have great effects, like all the people who stop to help those in the current natural disasters. But what really makes a hero and how would you define it? In my opinion, a hero has to be loyal, strong, and humble.

Heroism is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a noun and is either 1. heroic conduct as exhibited in fulfilling a high purpose or attaining a noble end or 2. The qualities of a hero. Even though the message is clear of what heroism is in the definition, do we know what it is really? In the eyes of some, a hero is one who doesn't accept failure, but one that tries with enthusiasm repeatedly every time one falls in order to achieve or hope to reach sight of their dreams. A true act of heroism comes in many forms. It could be a firefighter running into a burning building to save lives, a police officer who stops a robbery or even our military men and women who fight for our freedoms. For me, another act of heroism is someone who battles cancer. None of us expected the news we were about to hear. My boss was being treated for flu like symptoms for seven weeks and tried two different antibiotics. Because he was on antibiotics and was not any better his primary care physician ordered a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia. This is when his life changed.
