Recommended: Definition of a hero
There are plenty examples of what everyone thinks is a hero. You have your classic well-known heroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman..etc. Then some others say that just ordinary people are heroes. People who do small things that have great effects, like all the people who stop to help those in the current natural disasters. But what really makes a hero and how would you define it? In my opinion, a hero has to be loyal, strong, and humble. Loyal. We hear the word all the time and it means different things to each person. Maybe it makes you think of a family member who has stuck with you through a tough time, or maybe it's something as simple as your dog being loyal towards you. For me, being loyal means you've got someone's back and are willing to take risks and fight for someone or something you believe is right. For example, my Grandma Joan has always been there for me. She wants me to have the best opportunities in life that she can give me. She has always been on my side through good and bad. So, I consider her a hero. Someone …show more content…
A hero's job is to serve other not be self centered. An example would be Captain Sully. He did a huge thing and saved the lives of 155 people on board a commercial aircraft when birds blew out the engine. Captain Sully landed the plane safely in the Hudson River. On an “ESPN News” interview Sully states “I was just doing my job.” He did an amazing thing and didn't brag at all and stayed very humble. Christopher Reeve who has starred in several Superman movies was asked in an interview what he thinks a hero is. His response was “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” For me that is a perfect definition of a hero. Someone who isn't humble would be someone who constantly brags about their accomplishments. Or maybe if you were in a sports game, and they won and you lost, they wouldn't be humble or a good sport if they
A hero is someone who invests their time helping others rather than themselves. They are always conscious of their surroundings and environment. Heroes help their enemies and friends regardless of the circumstances. A hero is also someone who is humble and knows when to be protective of others and themselves. Heroes are people who acknowledge flaws, and fix mistakes, those were my own definition of a hero. In “Undocumented Immigrant”, Jose Antonio Vargas tells the truth about his illegal status in the United States. Not only was he an immigrant in the United States, he was his own hero. Vargas proved that he is a hero through code switching, bravery and honesty.
What do you think a hero is? A hero is someone who helps people. The main trait of a hero would be brave. Some examples of a hero would be in the S.E. Hinton book The Outsiders. By the end of the book Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally are heroes because of their bravery.
In the article “What Makes a Hero,” Dr. Alex Lickerman argues that what makes a hero is ”the willingness to make a personal sacrifice for the benefit of others.” In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there are a few characters that fit that definition of a hero. Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird fits this definition of a hero because of his bravery and willingness to defend Tom Robinson in the court case.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
Romance, drama, horror, comedy, and more but above all are the epics. In many cultures stories have been shared over and over again, and eventually a man named Joseph Campbell began to look at these tails and myths. As he went over these different tails he noticed a pattern that would then be developed into what is known as “The Hero’s Journey.” After looking at three different cultures stories it seems that “The Hero’s Journey” is indeed a pattern that appears in stories from across the world, but further then that is how different cultures all used stories to teach other valuable lessons. Some of the main cultures of storytelling Greek, Norse, and Hindu can be analyzed for their relationship though Campbell’s theory while
What Makes Someone a Hero? A hero is a social superior, the apple of everyone’s eye, and is a tiny spec of hope in a much to hateful world. By basic definition, a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Two people have shown their willingness to take on a hero title, Athena, from Homer’s The Odyssey and Stephanie Erickson’s Mackenzie.
In my opinion, a hero is someone who is noble, selfless, brave and honest. A hero is someone who fights for their beliefs no matter what happens. They put the needs of others before themselves and is dedicated into helping others. He/she contributes to humanity and is always aware of the different consequences, good or bad, that can occur as a result of their actions.
What is a hero? The defining characteristics of a hero have changed over time. We can trace heroes all the way back to Ancient Greek mythology. Today, our definition of a hero is much more lax. We use the term hero to describe everyone from civil rights leaders to Instagram-famous celebrities. A hero used to be one who had to endure painful struggle and prove himself and his beliefs to society. Is a hero equivalent to a celebrity now? A quick Google search for “American hero” will lead you to names like Muhammad Ali and Billie Jean King, ahead of any political or civil rights leaders. What does this say about our society? What qualities does a “hero” have to possess in modern America? In this essay, we will explore the timeline of the word
In today's modern times we hear the word hero all of the time. The news media throws the term around as if it is an everyday word. What exactly is a hero? Who, or what, can be classified as heroic? The correct definition of the word hero is: One invested with heroic qualities in the opinions of others. That is a fine definition for books and intellectual minds. To the average person, however, a hero is much more.
A person who overcomes antagonistic and unnecessary issues in a mature and powering manor. That is the definition of a hero to me. Someone who is being hurt and sees others hurt from the actions and takes charge and does everything in his power to change it. Someone who puts others before themselves and acts in the most chivalrous way. The definition of a hero is different for everyone. Some one might think of a hero as someone who can lift a car and put it on their back, or gives a dying person their kidney. Yes all of those people are forms of hero’s. You can’t tell someone that they are not a hero just because they don’t change into a disguise in a telephone both or can throw lightning bolts from a cloud. Everyone is a hero in their own way.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.
A hero is characterized as any person who is admired for their courage or achievements, thus serving as a model. Some other characteristics associated with a hero are bravery and daring. It is the manner of facing and dealing with anything that is recognized as dangerous, difficult, or painful that further defines a hero.
