Gym Junkies Missing in action: Gym Junkies. If anyone has spotted these big headed creatures, please report to a local gym or call 1800-GYM-FLOW. I may not be an expert in the fitness expertise, however, I know what a gym junkie is and I am going to pass my knowledge on to the "non-lifter." A gym junkie can be defined as a "buff guy" or "tool", and is viewed by society as an iron addict who is self-conceited, big headed, and spends all of their free time in the gym working out and taking steroids, how else did they get so big right? I like to stay fit and in shape myself, so I know that not all of these so called "steroid freaks" use the juice to grow their muscles. Most of the everyday gym rats actually try to stay natural in their body building process because of harshness that tags along with building muscle. Although gym guys may blend in at times, however they can be easily spotted by modern day citizens if one knows what to look for: Gym junkies can be defined as always eating or preparing to, they can almost always be spotted carrying a protein shake or packed down with their everyday supplements, they are usually wearing some kind of gym apparel and saying some catch phrase related to iron, and …show more content…
If someone happens to own a shirt that says, “Alpha,” or some other sort of apparel that reads things such as “all aboard the gains train”, they are more than likely a gym rat. A gym junkie loves to wear any kind of gym clothing, whether it be a hat, bracelet, shirt, or even a necklace. When gym junkies start wearing these types of clothing, usually something terrible happens to their vocabulary. These gym rats start saying catch phrases such as “don’t let my biceps get in your way,” “should of had a protein bar,” or “Bro do you even lift?” Once these gym bro’s start saying these ridiculous phrases, it is almost impossible to tolerate their big headed
For Chris Bell and his two brothers, nicknamed Smelly and Mad Dog, who grew up with not so ideal bodies, mega-men like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hulk Hogan, and Sylvester Stallone were heroes. The Bells wanted the enormous, muscular physiques that they saw in these guys and in the muscle and fitness magazines, and would stop at nothing to reach that goal. This dream of having a larger than life strength and muscle mass however, eventually led the brothers to make a decision: whether to use steroids or not (Bell). When it comes to the issue of steroid use in today’s society, most people will initially think about its use in sports, recalling large controversies over the drugs like the cases of major leaguers Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. Not as well known; however, is the recreational use of steroids, outside of the realm of organized sports. This faction of steroid use is much harder to define. It is much easier to see why a professional athlete would want to use steroids: for the money, glory, and fame, etc, but why people in gyms and health clubs across the country are “juicing up” is not as clear. Recreational steroid users often argue that the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of steroids, and that taking steroids is “just as American as apple pie,” but many doctors, experts, politicians, and other people disagree. So how widespread is the use of steroids in gyms across the country? And what makes people go to such drastic measures to achieve the physique they desire despite the health and legality risks?

Our table is dismissed. I head back to gym with a full stomach, something that shouldn’t happen. Third block is the lunch block and the eighth grade special block. This shouldn’t happen and as principle the first change that would be in immediate effect would amend the schedule to be specials during first, second, and fourth block. This will cause improvements in health with gym being at least an hour away from lunch for the eighth grade; dietary habits considering people eat as minimal food as possible to preserve their stomach, and enthusiasm because students will see any change to the current schedule as a robust change. In addition, I would change the current format of the schedule. Extend math and English to 3 hour classes, but on an
You’ve all seen them, the enormously large muscle-heads at the gym, the participates of the World’s Strongest Man Competition, the amazing offensive tackles, and the lightning fast runners. They were all unnaturally strong, and looked like gods. You tend to obsess over how beautiful their bodies are, how strong they are, or how fast they can run. All you can think about is reaching that level of athletic excellence, and nothing will hold you back. At times like these some people tend to take the quick fit to get closer to their idols, in the form of steroids. But what individuals tend not see is the horrible side effects that accompany the use of these anabolic steroids. These powerful drugs have both positive and negative results from their use. Along with increased strength and size, users of steroids suffer from a wide range of sicknesses such as cancer, shrinkage of testicles, bad acne, hair loss, damage organs, intense mood swings, and impotence.
Abstract: Since the beginning of sports competition, athletes have always looked for some kind of an edge over their competitors. They will do whatever it takes to be one of the elite and that includes injecting supplements into their bodies to make them bigger, stronger, and faster. Steroid use is probably one of the most common drug misuses in sports competition. Athletes found that with anabolic steroids one could become a better athlete twice as fast. Not until 1975 was the drug first banned from Olympic competition because of the health risks it produced. Shortly thereafter, the rest of the sports world did not allow anabolic steroids as well. With the use of steroids no longer permitted athletes began to look for other alternatives. On the rise is two substances called creatine and androstenedione, both of which are sold over the counter. These two performance enhancers have only had minimal testing done on them, excluding the long-term effects, simply because they haven't been around long enough. Creatine and androstenedione have been said to produce results like steroids without the side effects. The truth is they do produce side effects and irregular muscle growth. By banning the use of performance enhancing drugs, just like steroids, sports competition will have a much healthier and fairer environment to participate in.
Body sculpting is a fast growing obsession and profession in many parts of today’s self-absorbed world, in which the importance of appearance is overly emphasized. Quickly obtaining muscle, mass, and ultimately reaching ones desired physique becomes hard to do when the standards for a perfectly sculpted body in todays society is becoming harder and harder to achieve. Advertisements using sex appeal rose from 15 to 27 percent in a 20 years period (Pappas). These advertisements constantly push images of photo shopped, unrealistically fit models, pressuring society to aim for unrealistic shapes and sizes. Paralleling the rise in sexy advertisements is the growth of sports products and nutritional supplement vending retail web sites.
My issue over the concern of athletes have been struggling with the usage of steroids has widely spread among athletes and others; not only do steroids give an athlete a hard times but it’s also an unfair advantage to the other athletes and what they’ve accomplish. “Besides making muscles bigger, anabolic steroids may help athletes recover from a hard workout more quickly by reducing the amount of muscle damage during the session” (“Steroids in Sports”,2005). Now a days steroids are everywhere as an athlete. Many males and female young athletes preferably take it because they want to look and feel good when it comes to impressing someone and trying to become someone they look forward too. Young teens and adults try to cheat themselves in the career of their dreams. When it comes to a sport, teen athletes are not aware of what type of consequences may happen to them at the time. It may come to the time where it’s too late to take care of. In other cases, some athletes may like feeling the aggressive they get when they take drugs such as steroids. Athletes shouldn’t take steroids as the harmful health effects of the anabolic steroid in population wise. Many people have had their lives ruined by the use of illegal steroids and yet the desired effects are overwhelming that people tend to forget about the results and consequences that may effect. Athletes on steroids believe taking steroids will enhance their performance, strength, and size without having to put necessary work. These benefits, however, are associated with much short-term and long term risk.
and friends and eventually take over your social life. In the words of one expert, “Success rests not only on ability, but upon commitment, loyalty, and pride.”According to this view, it’s important to be dedicated but also have pride in what you do best. Ultimately, BodyBuilding is the best career choice at this
Although fitness centers and gyms may appear to be a place to break a sweat and work out with the intention of not being seen without makeup and in grungy clothes, this may not be the case, in particular when it comes to college gyms. Contrary to the findings Tamara L. Black displayed in her dissertation for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from the University of California in Los Angeles, in which she depicts the situation of the classical fitness center as exercise dominated, after observations made while participating in the Boston College Recreational Complex, fitness centers may be more heavily focused on expressing sexual and social relations than for health related issues. Although she does not elaborate on this view of the gym, she does recognize that “popular media, cultural stereotypes, and some empirical literature depict gyms as places to meet people, where sexualized interactions are likely to take place, where bodies are on display as objects of desire” (pg. 40). This may be the perfect definition of the situation that I found in my observations. Shari L. Dworkin and Faye Linda Wachs, in Body Panic: Gender, Health, and the Selling of Fitness, acknowledge “mainstream media construct men as active and women as inactive. In this view, women are often shown as ‘being visually perfect’ and passive, immobile, and unchanging’” (pg. 40). Perhaps we have media to blame for this hyper-sexualization of a situation that was initially intended for self-fulfillment and health related practices.
Petrocelli says that,”In males specifically, teenage steroid use has been attributed and linked to poor self esteem, elevated rates of depression, attempted suicide, poor knowledge about health, a desire to participate in sports that require great strength, parental concerns about weight, and higher rates of eating disorder.” This quote shows us directly how our society’s vision of what a “man should look like is affecting males even in the teenage years. Society tells us that women need to be skinny with large breasts and an exceptionally round butt. We are also shown that men need to have large pectoral muscles that suffocate you in a hug and have biceps that could curl an average sized person. How can Americans, people obsessed with equality, expect anybody but the richest of us to meet these demands? We’re starting to take equality too
Steroids became an option to athletes in the Olympics and other major sporting events during the 1950’s. But this use of steroids among athletes only became widely apparent when Canadian sprint runner Ben Johnson tested positive for steroid use after winning the gold medal for the one hundred-meter dash during the 1988 Olympics (Francis, 45). Now a skinny fifteen-year-old can just walk down to the local gym and find people who either sell or know how to get in contact with those who sell the drug that will make him envious of his friends. Steroids are an attractive drug. While steroids seem harmless to the unaware user, they can have a risky effect. Most of the time whether the users are new or experienced, they do not know the dangerous consequences steroids can have on their bodies and their minds. Though steroids cause a relatively insignificant number of deaths in our society, the banning of steroids is justified because steroids have a lot of side effects not known to the uninformed user.
Many people are now more preoccupied with their bodies than other things. Consequently, many men and women are willing to invest their time and money just to exercise their body so as to improve their looks. Most of them are turning to crossfit workout routines which aim at muscle strengthening and conditioning. Here is close look at the crossfit workout and why it may do wonders for you.
Exercising frequently can be a positive habit, but if a person becomes addicted to it, it has negative effects as well. Exercise addiction is not easy to identify because, like any other addict, they tend to deny they have a problem. This addiction is referred to by a variety of names such as exercise dependence, exercise addiction, obligatory exercise, compulsive athleticism, compulsive exercising, and exercise abuse. "Men and women are equally prone to exercise addiction, which affects about three percent of the population, according to a study at the University of Southern California. Exercise addicts usually work out two or three hours a day, six or seven days a week." (Seymour) Exercise addicts, of both genders, do not understand the difference between pushing their limits and overstepping them.
When most people hear the term ‘bodybuilding’ they think of massive, inhuman looking individuals, mostly males, who spend every waking minute in the gym lifting weights and injecting steroids. But that is not entirely true. Bodybuilding is much more complex than that, especially when it comes to nutrition. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. There are many different factors that come in to play for professional bodybuilders, as well as the regular person who is looking to put on muscle mass or whatever their fitness goals might be. Some of those factors include nutrition, training, recovery, supplementation, as well as the controversial topic of drugs in the bodybuilding scene. Bodybuilding also has a unique history that should be addressed before diving into the topics of bodybuilding.
It is hard to deny the fact that a good body will get you more attention. Women have always wanted the perfect body and would do just about anything to get it. These days, women are not the only ones concerned with their image. Studies have shown that more and more men are worrying about their appearance, especially because of peer pressure. However, there are fewer things for men to do in order to get well built, muscular bodies. This means that in many cases, men must turn to steroids. Steroids are a very dangerous drug, with many terrible side effects (InfoFacts).
