Bodybuilding- Strength and Conditioning When most people hear the term ‘bodybuilding’ they think of massive, inhuman looking individuals, mostly males, who spend every waking minute in the gym lifting weights and injecting steroids. But that is not entirely true. Bodybuilding is much more complex than that, especially when it comes to nutrition. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. There are many different factors that come in to play for professional bodybuilders, as well as the regular person who is looking to put on muscle mass or whatever their fitness goals might be. Some of those factors include nutrition, training, recovery, supplementation, as well as the controversial topic of drugs in the bodybuilding scene. Bodybuilding also has a unique history that should be addressed before diving into the topics of bodybuilding. Bodybuilding emerged in the late 1800s and early 1900s made popular by a man named Eugene Sandow, who was also considered the first bodybuilder. Most people have only heard the name Sandow when talking about the famous Sandow trophy which is won at the Mr. Olympia, the most elite bodybuilding competition held once a year in the fall. A name people do recognize is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is known for having one of the greatest bodybuilding physiques of all time. Arnold was also considered the face of bodybuilding back in his prime and was a huge ambassador of the sport. Arnold first got into bodybuilding at the age of fifteen. Arnold's parents weren't too fond of his new hobby, mainly because his father was a strict police officer in a small town in Austria, and bodybuilding was unheard of there.
