Bodybuilding- Strength and Conditioning When most people hear the term ‘bodybuilding’ they think of massive, inhuman looking individuals, mostly males, who spend every waking minute in the gym lifting weights and injecting steroids. But that is not entirely true. Bodybuilding is much more complex than that, especially when it comes to nutrition. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. There are many different factors that come in to play for professional bodybuilders, as well as the regular person who is looking to put on muscle mass or whatever their fitness goals might be. Some of those factors include nutrition, training, recovery, supplementation, as well as the controversial topic of drugs in the bodybuilding scene. Bodybuilding also has a unique history that should be addressed before diving into the topics of bodybuilding. Bodybuilding emerged in the late 1800s and early 1900s made popular by a man named Eugene Sandow, who was also considered the first bodybuilder. Most people have only heard the name Sandow when talking about the famous Sandow trophy which is won at the Mr. Olympia, the most elite bodybuilding competition held once a year in the fall. A name people do recognize is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is known for having one of the greatest bodybuilding physiques of all time. Arnold was also considered the face of bodybuilding back in his prime and was a huge ambassador of the sport. Arnold first got into bodybuilding at the age of fifteen. Arnold's parents weren't too fond of his new hobby, mainly because his father was a strict police officer in a small town in Austria, and bodybuilding was unheard of there. But it wasn't until 1966 were Arnold first came into the international bodybuilding scene. His first big international... ... middle of paper ... ...g to seek advice. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 and, to the surprise of his family, survived through the coldest months in year as a new baby. As the 6th Arnold in his family, Benedict descended from a long line of Arnold’s who first arrived in Rhode Island near the early 1600’s. Growing up, onlookers described the lively teenage Benedict Arnold as “lean”, “strong” and “full of pranks…” (Sheinkin 13). He always occupied himself. Sometimes he swam and ran, other times locals noticed him climbing tall boat masts and slippery hulls. Benedict quickly stood out among the rest...
For Chris Bell and his two brothers, nicknamed Smelly and Mad Dog, who grew up with not so ideal bodies, mega-men like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hulk Hogan, and Sylvester Stallone were heroes. The Bells wanted the enormous, muscular physiques that they saw in these guys and in the muscle and fitness magazines, and would stop at nothing to reach that goal. This dream of having a larger than life strength and muscle mass however, eventually led the brothers to make a decision: whether to use steroids or not (Bell). When it comes to the issue of steroid use in today’s society, most people will initially think about its use in sports, recalling large controversies over the drugs like the cases of major leaguers Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. Not as well known; however, is the recreational use of steroids, outside of the realm of organized sports. This faction of steroid use is much harder to define. It is much easier to see why a professional athlete would want to use steroids: for the money, glory, and fame, etc, but why people in gyms and health clubs across the country are “juicing up” is not as clear. Recreational steroid users often argue that the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of steroids, and that taking steroids is “just as American as apple pie,” but many doctors, experts, politicians, and other people disagree. So how widespread is the use of steroids in gyms across the country? And what makes people go to such drastic measures to achieve the physique they desire despite the health and legality risks?

The public is under the belief that taking steroids will automatically make the user become built and muscular, which is not so. While using steroids, the user must still exercise. Some people also believe that the only way to achieve a muscular build is by using steroids, yet again, this is wrong. Many people who work hard achieve an excellent physique naturally. Male bodybuilders and athletes make up most of the steroid users in the U.S.; female athletes and teenaged athletes use steroids as well. One of the most famous steroid users is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has held the title of Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia. He used steroids before the health risks were known and before they were illegal. Another famous steroid user is Sergio Olivia. Olivia was also a bodybuilder and competed against Schwarzenegger. Both men no longer use steroi...
In fact, he’s an outlier because he started from nearly nothing and depended solely on his determination to reach his goals. You’d probably be surprised to learn that Arnold Schwarzenegger was a small child and was rejected by his family, mainly because of his runty size. But Arnold’s unending desire and tireless determination allowed him to find a way to America to become an actor. Arnold reached his dream through bodybuilding, becoming one of the most famous bodybuilders to ever compete and the reason bodybuilding became so popular in the United States. Once he conquered the bodybuilding arena, he was able to break into acting. Arnold’s imposing and muscular stature meant he was the perfect choice for roles in action movies and he became one of the the most well-known and popular action stars on the big

I was able to gain knowledge about the different parts of the body which are important in the field of bodybuilding. I discover that there are main muscle groups and each of these muscle groups have different parts. For example, the main muscle groups would be the chest, back, arms, shoulders and legs. Now each of these main muscle groups have more that one part, your arms has biceps, triceps and a forearms. Each of these parts are made up or many more segments that can construct a list that can go on for a while. Gaining such a vast understanding of my body was thrilling. I was able to understand all the parts of my body. I am confident that I know almost every muscle group that is in the known human body. After learning about each individual muscle, I was then able to move on to the next step understanding how to train these individual muscle groups. I figured out that there are different routines that you have to follow in order to train each muscle. For example, your legs can be split into different muscles segments such as the quads, calves, and hamstrings. Once I isolated each muscle segment I was able to find workouts for each of them. For the quadriceps you would do workouts known as a barbell squat, lunges and reverse leg curls. Then after finding this out I had to

In modern society, people take physical appearance quite seriously and will spend vast amount of time and money to transform their bodies. Some people rely surgeries to change themselves, while others spend lots of time in the gym and focus on their nutrition. Bodybuilding focuses on getting the largest muscles, while crossfit is about looking in shape, but not as big. Bodybuilders compete in competitions on how they look and crossfitters compete in physical competitions where they are to complete the workout as fast as possible. Nutrition is very important to crossfitters and bodybuilders. The way they train is also extremely important to them. Crossfit and bodybuilding use different methods to reach their goals.
Bodybuilding is a sport that only a few take serious and they need a gym that focus on it. I came up with the idea of PUMP because of the simple fact that I am a bodybuilder myself and I understand the need for this new gym. I am currently a member at You fit Health Club because I was a prior member of Porky’s Gym which was bought out by You fit. You fit is not a bad gym in itself, but it doesn’t have all the necessary equipment to bodybuild the hardcore way. PUMP meets all the requirements that a bodybuilder checks for while becoming a member in a gym; it will have squats racks, smith press (women prefer it), benches, dumb bells that reach a 190 weight max among other things.
We are led to believe that who Arnold really is a friendly, supportive, and determined man. Many of the people that would work with him said that is just how he was brought up, raised by his mother, Aurelia Schwarzenegger. On the subject of Arnold’s autobiography, Janet Maslin says, “The book begins with the obligatory description of his Austrian childhood and says that he and his brother were forced to do sit-ups to earn their breakfast. He also explains how the bodybuilder photos he pinned up in his room made his mother seek a doctor’s advice…” (Maslin). This is Arnold explicitly stating he got his determination and strength from how he was raised. So, it can be said that all of Arnold’s alter egos are made possible due to his characteristics, whether they are within him or shown externally. He does not need alter egos because he doesn’t feel comfortable in his own skin, he has alter egos simply because they are a result of his hard work. The names he goes by are no...
...You need to be hydrated to keep your body going and just to keep your body healthy. Steroids will enhance your body up to three times the size you started. Steroids sometimes will cause swelling in your brain and leave you with a severe high blood pressure. They will leave some people excessively aggressive or suicidal. “Using steroids for building muscles is not only wrong but is illegal.’’ (V.M. Katoch). Non-competitive body building is very healthy because all of the nutrients and healthy diets they put themselves on to accomplish their goal. “Look at all the diets that just banish and eliminate and demonize entire food groups, or they starve you with 1000, or 800 or 600 calories a day, or they restrict you to nothing but lemon water or vegetable juice. That kind of dieting is unhealthy.” (Venuto Tom). Body building is overall not healthy for you and your body.

Innumerous scientists confirm that nutrition and dietary supplementation can deeply affect molecular and cellular processes that occur in the body during the exercise and the recovery process. This brief review analyzes the potential for performance enhancement through protein supplementation ingestion, and the importance of nutrition education for sports supplement users.
Now that I have told you who bodybuilders are, I’ll tell you what bodybuilders do. Bodybuilders use a system of weight training and cardio, dieting, sumpletation(sometimes chemical), to add muscle to their musculature; a persons
