My haters are my motivators. It’s easy for me to be motivated because I have such an upbeat attitude. The key is to be as enthusiastic as possible when you’re training for your goal”. Andrew also responded to the question “What’s your biggest fear about Bodybuilding?” with “My biggest fear is that I’ll never be able to get as big as I want. I know I have the determination and the motivation to get as far as possible, but it’ll be a hard journey for me.” When Andrew was asked “Do you feel like you were happier before your started Bodybuilding, or after you started seeing results?” he responded by saying “Obviously after I started seeing results because let’s be honest, who doesn’t like looking as ripped as I do? My life has changed so much. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for worse but overall I appreciate how far I’ve come and the results I’ve gotten”. Lastly Andrew was asked “Who’s your biggest Bodybuilding idol?” and replied “Jay Cutler. I met him back in 2010 and he’s the most real guy I’ve ever met. He taught me a lot of motivational things that’s helped me out on my journey. I want to be as big, if not bigger than he is when I’m maxed out”. Over the years even action figures have gotten larger muscles, so much so that they are to proportions physically impossible to obtain. Every time you turn the corner, your eyes are drawn to some advertisement that shows a man with his shirt off, muscular and defined. “There is no way to plug popular culture into an equation and see what effect it has on mass psychology, of course, but there is widespread sentiment that these provocative images of buff males have really upped the ant...

At the Gym, written by Mark Doty, dramatizes the conflict within the mind of a bodybuilder and his desire to change who and what he is. The speaker observes the routines of the bodybuilder bench-pressing at a local gym, and attempts to explain the driving force that compels him to change his appearance. The speaker illustrates the physical use of inanimate objects as the tools used for the “desired” transformation: “and hoist nothing that need be lifted” (5,6). However, coupled with “but some burden they’ve chosen this time” (7), the speaker takes the illustration beyond the physical use of the tools of transformation and delves into the bodybuilder’s mental state. The speaker ends by portraying the bodybuilder as an arrogant, muscular being with fragile feelings of insecurity.
When completing an exercise a person is expecting results that day, during or post workout. Training is a long-term process that creates noticeable and physical results over a span of weeks, even months and years. Training involves planning with preparation for the training duration and progress towards a goal. The desire to win and be better than the competition is essentially important for professional and collegiate athletes. These athletes take training and preparation for a competition to a new level of determination and commitment. For the last two years, I have been working with the University of Oklahoma’s softball team as their student athletic trainer. I attend every practice, workout, and all of their games. As the student athletic trainer, I help with assessing their injuries, with treatment and rehabilitation of their injuries as well as injury prevention. I have watched these women go through some strenuous workouts and have seen their improvements. Some of the girls have asked about taking CrossFit classes or other workout programs during winter and summer breaks. Our strength coach advised against taking the CrossFit classes that he has not specifically approved. He
In today’s day and age, steroids have plagued the reputation of many sports. It was first presented in Russia and sparked a new era of bigger athletes with no seeming end. Steroids have gotten its way into every sport with usage high school athletes all the way to the pros. Even though there are many effects to the users health, steroid use is through the roof. Because our athletes are bigger and stronger than they were 60 years ago, they feel the need to be the biggest and do not care if there life is on the line. From Lance Armstrong to Alex Rodriquez, also known as A-Roid, our greats have cheated their way to greatness. Although our government has pushed for several laws to cut down from steroid use, they have little to no use. It has been a huge issue in the world of sports and is now getting the attention and recognition it deserves in the media. Steroid use by athletes of all ages are tarnishing their reputation and destroying their lives, and a solution is needed.
...do. Like any other sports it takes a lot of time and consistency. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Bodybuilders live an active and healthy life style and encourage others to do the same and to gain muscle or “gains” as some of them use to describe gaining muscle. You can always find most of them at them gym lifting weights and improving their body, either for a bodybuilding competition or just to simply look good. At the end of the day they all still work hard for the one thing they love and that’s to work out and be healthy.
Media has men cracking under pressure that they are discovering steroids to achieve this image, even youth. "Nationwide, about 4 percent of male high school students have taken steroids without a doctor 's prescription" (Carter, 2014, para. 7). With the pressure that is put on men, many are left with dissatisfaction and turning to other methods to use in their diets to achieve their goal. "Males with high concerns about muscularity who used supplements and other products to enhance physique were more likely to start binge drinking frequently and using drugs" (Carter, 2014, para. 6). Some go to high extremes that they fall into having a muscle dysmorphia. "One study found that those with muscle dysmorphia were more likely to have attempted suicide, had poorer quality of life, and had a higher frequency of any substance use disorder and anabolic steroid abuse" (Carter, 2014, para. 5). In fact, women are not the only ones who go through unnecessary extremes to meet eye-to-eye with the media to achieve the perfect body
Of course, everyone wants to be considered prepossessing, but not everyone knows the psychological and mental pain beauty can cause. For men, high levels of drive are associated with low self-esteem(Keels 5). As a result, some men have greater social anxiety, which can lead to the abuse of anabolic steroids. In the long run, overdosing can lead to muscle dysmorphia, weakening of the muscle, and result in abstention from physical activity. Nevertheless, women are more likely to risk damage just to be attractive than most men. Implants, particularly silicone, can cause scars, and even breast cancer. Like some men, women feel an immense amount of to fit the beauty paradigm. However, there's more expectations and consequences for women when it
I believe that fitness has a greater impact on you mentally than it does physically. Fitness releases chemicals that cause you to feel better instantaneously, improving mood for 24 hours. Fitness makes you more confident and improves your self-esteem, key for ridding anxiety and depression. Fitness makes you set goals for yourself, motivating you to improve yourself everyday. It gives you a boost of energy after, making you feel like you can conquer the world, or to just do your homework.
however, I don’t think fitness and health are all about the outer appearance. Of course, looking
Bodybuilding emerged in the late 1800s and early 1900s made popular by a man named Eugene Sandow, who was also considered the first bodybuilder. Most people have only heard the name Sandow when talking about the famous Sandow trophy which is won at the Mr. Olympia, the most elite bodybuilding competition held once a year in the fall. A name people do recognize is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is known for having one of the greatest bodybuilding physiques of all time. Arnold was also considered the face of bodybuilding back in his prime and was a huge ambassador of the sport. Arnold first got into bodybuilding at the age of fifteen. Arnold's parents weren't too fond of his new hobby, mainly because his father was a strict police officer in a small town in Austria, and bodybuilding was unheard of there. But it wasn't until 1966 were Arnold first came into the international bodybuilding scene. His first big international...
All over the world, it is believed that physical exercises help people achieve wellness. Physical exercise not only encourages physical wellness but also have a significant impact on mental stability and health. Although such positive believes stand, many benefits of physical activity has lost value overtime, as people nowadays have the tendency to rely on modern technologies and machineries, which are believe to make life easier. This argumentative essay, will explain how engaging in physical exercises improve one’s mental health.
The Mr. Olympia stage in bodybuilding is the crest of achievement one may hope to reach if they are passionate enough to get there. This world title earning competition was created by a man, Joe Weider, to bring the most accomplished bodybuilders from all over the planet to see who has the most developed physique and promote to health and fitness globally to all people. “You make the world a better place by making yourself a better person,” was once said by a man named Scott Sorrell. In today’s modern world and age, everything seems to be progressing and getting larger at a mind blowing rate. This includes people’s attitudes on themselves, on other people, and on the world in general. Many people are insecure and spiteful towards their physique or their overall worth, and bitter and disconnected from other people. Scott Sorrell’s quote is conveying that one can make the world a better place both for themselves and for other people simply by changing their attitude and being positive. I agree with Scott Sorrell’s quote because by choosing to be happy from within, people’s positive attitudes can reach other people and eventually the world, making it a “better place”.
According to “Men’s Makeover” by Kelly Rae Chi, males think of their bodies negatively just like women. They feel worse when working out and eating so they go to the extremes to get muscle and loose weight. Males are using supplement, injecting substances and steroids to alter their selves to fit society. Studies will help to stop future disorders because professionals and guardians may not see them. Social media, models, products increase these negative feelings.
