I am very interested to become some of the upcoming grade 8s’s mentor. I remember back in grade 8, I had a lot of anxiety coming into such a big high school. I would alway stress and not knowing what to expect. Especially for the first month of school, I was just completely lost and confuse. I would really like to help the upcoming grade 8s, by being there for them. In a way, they will have someone to talk to whenever they encounter problems. I would also be able to provide answers to their question about van tech and much more! Also becoming a mentor for incoming grade 8s also helps me connect with more people. I will be able to learn from them and they can learn from me. Having the opportunity to become a mentor for the grade 8s is a
way to improve my leadership skills and communication skills. This opportunity can benefit me in my future by building up these skills. I would really love to be someone a grade 8 can go up to and have a nice conversation. I would really like to be able to make high school seems less scary and more of a fun learning experience. I feel that I am suited to become a mentor because I am a committed person and I am willing to try my best to create a safe and fun high school experience for them. I am involved in several clubs, such as Spanish club and HOSA, although I do not hold office in any of them, I try to serve as a leader and to use my intelligence to help the school. In addition, I have previous experience working with the high school students with an Americorps Scholars in Service program as a lead tutor and college mentor. With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. Despite having no college degree, Vivien Thomas is able to learn medical and surgical skills through the guidance of Dr. Blalock, and their cooperation ultimately leads to the discovery of a cure for blue baby syndrome. Similar to Dr. Blalock’s tutelage, I have learned to love biology under the teaching and mentoring of my biology teacher, Dr. Cron. I have been a part of a couple mentoring programs, both as a mentee and as someone working behind the scene. My mentors helped me transition into a new stage of my life and they helped shape who I am today. The T.E.A.M Mentor Program has positively affected my time at Bucknell University. I would love to be part of the program and help guide incoming students in their transition into the Bucknell community.

After joining however I quickly realized the difference I could make in someone’s life by simply donating a few hours of my time. The school children I mentor 2-3 times a week are one of the greatest delights. Many of them do not receive any one on one time with another individual except for when I am tutoring them. These children have such great potential if only their parents and other adults around them would take the time to see it. It is my desire to have involvement with students, parents, education professionals, community, and community agencies. As I move forward with learning the role and responsibilities of the professional school counselor, I am reminded of a quote by Carol Allen Simmons, “I want to lend a helping to show someone the way. I want my life to be an example as I go, cause I never pass this way again.” I will lead, learn and grow in the knowledge of this profession because I only have a short time to impact students with direction and care. Mentors and mentoring have been part of organisational culture in some capacity since humans started to organise things. It has survived several shifts in the context it was viewed in and how it was and is applied in the organisation. The challenge for organisations of the day be mindful of these constant changes and aim to be responsive not reactive for them. To diagnose exactly what, when and how mentoring should take place and challenge more staff to aspire to be mentors of the future.
...re in. I wish I had this opportunity when I was younger to have a mentor to talk to about my problems with no matter how big or small they are. I can’t say that I’m the perfect young man but I truly believe that I can be a “big brother” or a mentor to a young man that has no father figure in his life or even a big brother. This a self-less act of compassion for the young men in the community and hopefully we can expand in different areas and talk to hundreds of young man that look for someone not far from age to share some light and advice their way. Concluded, I have high hopes for these young men and I feel that now I and my church members are here to push them to the right direction and bring them closer to God and hopefully they can apply what we taught them on their lives and to influence their parents, peers, and follow the destiny God has in store for them.
Being a student mentor comes with many benefits. Such as, encouraging students to better their behavior, helping students build a better self-esteem for their self, and help decrease high school dropout rate. Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of helping people to progress in their careers .Mentoring teenagers isn't always as hard as it seems but at the same time, not everyone is up for it and it takes serious dedication. Year round mentoring progress should be used in schools because it help encourages students to better their behavior, help students better their self-esteem, and it help decrease high school dropout rate.
Over the course of their degree studies, student teachers gain valuable theorical knowledge of teaching without really understanding how this knowledge will be practically applied once they enter the classroom for the first time. This is why teaching practicals are of paramount importance: student teachers are afforded an opportunity to put their theory into practice within a controlled environment, under the supervision and guidance of a mentor teacher. Concomitantly, student teachers can contribute to school effectiveness as they bring new knowledge, fresh perspectives and enthusiasm into the classroom - if granted the opportunity to provide input. Process factors like classroom teaching and lesson planning are crucial to school effectiveness. The student teachers will have to learn how these process factors manifest in the classroom by observing their mentor teachers. Once the student teachers start practicing their skills in the classroom they will be in a better position to identify possible ways to contribute to school effectiveness, and may be afforded the opportunity to share their ideas.
