The professional position I aim to obtain next is Behavioral Health Worker. A Behavioral Health Worker in most cases will implement specific school based behavioral plans, track measurable objectives, and communicate progress through notes, reports and supervision. As a general overview Behavioral Health workers perform these task as key roles and responsibilities. Behavioral Health Worker also provides behavior management support, emotional support and psychological rehabilitative activities to children and adolescents within a wide range of disabilities. They provide interventions to a children or adolescents at schools when the behavior without intervention would require a more restrictive treatment or education setting. Behavioral Health Workers assists teacher and or unique caregiver with implementation of behavioral plans. Other functions of this position are supervise/monitor activities of child/adolescent in accordance with the behavioral plan with the emphasis on prevention rather than intervention and prevent crisis situation however when necessary deescalate children in crisis.
This role is performed typically in organizational setting such as schools, treatment centers, and hospitals. Educational background for this position is a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines, which includes Human Service fields including, but not limited to Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education, and Criminal Justice. Despite having learnt several ethical and professional contents, the professional development plan ensures that, all the graduate nurses have a smooth transition that ensures they deliver quality and standard services as expected of them (Gordon & Franklin, 2003). I am currently a ABA therapist and I've been working in this field for two years. I have worked with children from ages 2 to 14 years old with different diagnoses. Most of my clients are autistic but I've worked with children with Down syndrome, ADD, ADHD, ODD, OCD, and developmental delay. I have opportunities to reinforce positive behaviors and help extinguish negative behaviors. I also am able to engage in incidental teachings, run knowledge based programs, and interactions using verbal and non verbal communication. My career plan is to become certified as a BCBA and become a BSC. As a BSC I will be able to help many more children on a high scale.
The purpose of this interview is to explore human service professional in their work environment, and observe human service professional in their particular settings, what type of education is required for their position of choice. The human services profession has a variety of populations that they serve; this is a wide array of people. Human service professionals serve populations such as, high-risk mothers who may have shortfalls in education, psychosocial, nutritional, and little or no transportation. Another is the homeless population, lack housing due to being unable to afford, or maintain safe and adequate housing. The elderly is a population that is increasing, there needs range from chronic illness, lack of or little education, mentally, financial, loss of independence, and stereotyping. They serve those diagnose with a chronic illnesses, such illnesses may be diagnoses of , high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, there is also the chronic mentally ill who are consider high risk, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder). These are just a few of the services that a human service professional may work with.
According to institute of medicine (IOM) report of 2010, the United States has the opportunity to renovate its health care system to provide affordable quality care that is reachable to all and leads to improved health outcomes (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2010). The impact on nursing of the 2010 institute of medicine formulated with the purpose of producing a report that would make endorsements for an action oriented design for future of nursing profession. The major transformation of the nursing profession is needed to achieve the upgraded health care system through nursing practice, education, and leadership. Overall, the main goal is to provide safe, quality, patient-centered care that is manageable and reasonable to all and enhanced health outcomes. The IOM report offers recommendations that collectively serve as a plan “to ensure that nurses can practice to the full extent of their education and training, improve nursing education, and provide opportunities for the nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full partners in health care redesign and improvement efforts, and improve data collection for workforce planning and policy making” (IOM, 2010 p.1).
