Introduction – This is a very tricky assignment. I know the grade I want but it’s a little harder to say what grade I deserve. The word deserves sounds like more like entitled so the question for me would be what grade have I earned. To measure what you have earned you must examine the amount of effort that was given. So, the following behaviors are demonstrations of the effort I put into the grade I get in the class. Being organized In this class, I worked to remain organized in order to turn in all of my assignments on time. I also made a point to be on time or early for class every day. Finding the study method that works For the first exam, I study very little with a piece of paper that I had written the answer to the question on the study guide on. This did not work well and I ended up doing poorly on the exam. For the second exam, I made flashcards and studied with a …show more content…
The test scores are evidence of that. This has a lot to do with finding the right method of studying for this class. But I think that my improvement was because I had the determination to improve. I am usually a good student and will get decent grades. When I got the first exam back and saw that it was a low “C” I was determined to do better on the next exam. This transferred over to the whole class I was determined that I was going to get a good grade in this class and so I set out to improve by changing my study habits and tried to stay on top of all the assignments. I also didn’t want to leave the class feeling I didn’t understand anything. At the beginning of the semester, I was very lost because all of the concepts seemed to be foreign to me, wasn’t until I started doing my observation for the social group analysis that things started to click for me. So as far as improvement goes I feel like I accomplished this because I went from not knowing anything to understanding different concepts, more than I thought I
Just as they are standing face-to-face with each other, I am standing face-to-face with procrastination. I encounter difficulty managing my time with just about everything I do; I always wait too long. Throughout high school I was never in a hurry to get any of my work done. The work was easy to me, so if I waited until the last minute to do anything, it wasn’t hard for me to finish. I could always take my time to get everything done and still get a good grade in high school. Even if the work was harder and took me a little extra time, my teachers were all very lenient and accepted late work. My high school was very easy and allowed me to get into the bad habit of procrastinating.
Another valuable attribute I obtained after taking this course is the importance of turning assignments in ahead of time! Assignments are due at 11:59 and no late submissions will be graded.
... the value of organization and planning. The structure provided by the instructor truly helped me break down very large projects into smaller, more approachable assignments. For example, for each essay due, there were smaller deadlines that needed to be met. As I kept up with those smaller assignments, the actual large due date was not intimidating and I was able to handle the stress better. I will definitely use this approach in my future academic writing assignments.
One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. This compares to the article since all of the material comes back to me, but is mostly forgotten long after I take the examination.
Scheduling and planning are necessary to be successful as a working student. Setting time aside for school assignments is a priority, but it is also important to build in personal time for you, your family, and friends (Blais & Hayes, 2011). S...
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
“Education is not the preparation for life; education is life itself.” - John Dewey. Every year, as we enter a new grade, new challenges approach us. Eighth grade is no exception., and will be very different from 7th grade. As I enter my eighth grade school year, I will be bombarded with a variety of new experiences and challenges such as buddies, academics, and being prepared for high school. One of the most important tasks that is thrust onto me is buddies.
... on each section of the exam when you go in to test. Work on determining what method of answering is best for you. I’ll say once again. Take these practice exams repeatedly until it is second nature and yes…..then take them some more.
I have always showed hard work and determination in the classroom to learn and better myself. I am constantly trying to work ahead on long term projects so I don’t have to hurry at the end and turn in something I won’t be proud of. During class, I never cause distractions that would disrupt either my or anyone else's learning. In the 11 years I have spent being a student at Allegheny Clarion Valley, in either the elementary or high school, I have only ever got one B on a report card, which that already shows the hard work I put in the classroom. I am always using hard work and determination is to advance and learn in school.
At the beginning of the semester it had been over six years since I had been in an English class, So naturally filled with panic and discomfort with the subject I began the class with low personal expectations. However putting forth my best effort I attempted to take everything presented to me in stride. Things that were problems to begin with were Grammar, Sounding arrogant, according to a pretest, and staying on the subject during a paper. Things that sparked my interest are peer reviews and using the meal plan. With those things being said I’d like to go into further detail about how I’ve felt about my time spent and performance.
One of the lessons I have learned from the last four years is organization. Organization is a good quality to have when it comes to school work. There will be days where you’ll shove papers into your bookbag in a hurry but it is always best to go back and organize all papers. Somedays I would lose many papers because I shoved them in my bag. This has caused me to stress over papers I could not find in order to turn in and that affected my grades. In my first year of high school it was very difficult to stay organized but I was able to complete the year organized. It wasn’t till the second half of my sophomore year that I started to lose the structure in my school work. Having good organization is not just having your supplies organized it having yourself together. Being organized will make you feel prepared for your classes and you feel like you have everything in
Have you ever thought why you can’t do your work on time? Have you ever thought you need to stop time to finish your work? Have you ever thought about managing your time and then you didn’t? Have you ever thought why your friend’s GPA is 4 and yours is 2 or even lower? Of course, all students face these kinds of questions. They want to do something, but they don’t have enough time, so how can we solve this problem? The solution is time management. You will say I tried to manage my time, but I failed. Many students think time management means to put our daily events in our life on schedule regardless of their importance or not, which is a wrong concept. They should put only the important things. Effective time management should
First things first to succeed in college: never get behind. Being behind messes up your whole routine and just overall is stressful. Not only does it bring stress upon you, but also to the teacher. Consequently, you should always have a hard work ethic and present each assignment on time. Waiting until the last minute to do assignments, also, isn’t a bright idea. Most of the time if you are rushing, you aren’t thinking correctly and it completely messes up your train of thought. An example of where this can occur, are with essays. There’s no way that essays can be done overnight. Nevertheless, if it is done it’s most likely not properly prepared. All the steps that go into the process of writing need lots of time to achieve. Therefore, never should you only take a night’s worth of time to
Homework is achieved at higher levels, causing timing to increase on such task also the ability to learn. Children now at this rate have not only homework to focus on but also scholarships, colleges, extra curriculum activities, and SAT/ACT. The tole can cause stress and anxiety to the student but their work ethics learned through completing given homework can cause the student mindset to enhance short-term retention, understand the content, and construct thinking. But one may ask themselves, how can a single student that has twenty-four hours in the day as any other normal person have the ability to overcome the tremendous task set forth on their plate. Educators suggests that students that has these different tasks in their lives should break down all the requirements and get themselves an organized plan. A organized plan can create a tremendous and helpful insight that balances the students life out and makes it less stressful. The following is a few tips to getting the job done with a considerable outcome. First step, which is obvious, is to take care of yourself that includes getting enough rest and eating well. Secondly is to get a planner or organizational board that shows what assignments or plans the person has to do for the week or month."Managing materials is one of the three key categories of study skills that contribute to students ' ability to organize, remember and apply their knowledge
Having bad study habits can really show up in your grades, but if you change your study habits your grades will improve. Many important things factor in understanding about studying. The most important fact about studying: no two people think alike; therefore, no two people study the same. What works for you may not work for your friend, and vice versa. I know I have no class that I enjoy so much that I cannot wait to get home so that I can study it, on that note we can only wish. As people we are all different for some students studying and being motivated to learn comes naturally but for me not so much. Success in high school and college really depend on good study habits. Things like taking bad notes, not knowing how to study, not knowing when to study and not having a good place to study can really affect your grades.
