Ruba Shawkat Drones In 2015 progress in technology is moving at rapid pace. With every technological milestone achieved the most prominent question asked is how government should regulate the new technology. This question is significant because there is always a way for people to use technology in way that was not intended. Recently, with the advancement of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, the issue of whether the government should or should not regulate the use of drones has become a hot topic. Although there is the fear the UAVs will infringe on people’s privacy, they should be regulated by the government in order to protect the safety of citizens and to standardize drones for commercial use. If UAVs are not regulated by the government the safety of ordinary people can be put in danger. Without laws in place to outline what is and is not acceptable forms of modifications to UAVs anyone with an understanding of the technology can put together what they please. Customizations can be harmless features like squirting water or flashing lights or extremely dangerous modifications, like guns, that can prove to be fatal. UAVs can be used as a more efficient way to transport goods from a producer to a consumer. This technology has the potential to minimize delivery times and increase customer satisfaction. The biggest risk of using UAVs is that without government regulation the risk for packages not reaching their target is increased. The UAV can get lost, stuck, or shot down preventing the UAv from getting to its targeted location. This can be very bad for businesses because they will end up paying more money to refund customers and replaces UAVs. When legislation regarding the regulation of air travel and standardization of drones is passed UAV delivery will become more organized and a more efficient version of regular postal
