In the United States there are thousands of jobs available to the everyday person, and with each job the working requirements vary. Employers all over the country allow their employees to work flexible schedules that have various hours. But how well do these schedules work? To figure this out, looking at how a schedule positively affects the employees at work, how it can negatively affect employees, and how a flexible work schedules can impact corporate offices, provides a better understanding.

A flexible work schedule can benefit employees in many ways. There are two commonly known types of flexible work schedules. The first one would be working from home. Working from home provides an employee the ability to do their work on their own schedule, at their own pace. There is little to no requirement on what hours the employee will need to work, allowing them to manage their work and personal life. The second type of schedule is when a company allows employees to come in for a certain amount of hours a day. Similar to working from home the employee is given the ability to work around their schedule, but the employee must be in the workplace for the required time limit. When working from home the negatives can outweigh the positives. Children and pets can be some of the common distractions that can cause issues in the at home workspace. An issue that comes when allowing the employees to freely come in at whatever hours suits them is the amount of workers. In a company such as a grocery store this could be a giant problem. Grocery stores have multiple departments, and the majority of employees are trained in only one department. If the workers were free to come into work whenever they wanted, the majority of departments would find themselves under or overstaffed.
