This source explains the relationship between working overtime and the work-family conflict. With this source, they “investigated whether work-family conflict is prospectively related to adjustments in work schedules… in this relation”. (Jansen) They also wanted to prevent work- family conflict. They also know that balancing work and family is a challenge in today’s society for individuals. Consequences associated with work and family “job burnouts, psychological distress, depression, life dissatisfaction, elevated need for recovery from work, prolonged fatigue, and increased sickness absence”. (Jansen) The companies are starting to notices that employees are looking for other jobs that support them balance their work and family. Jansen used questionnaires to figure out the work-family conflict investigation. Each questionnaire was use with different types of working people. For example, the part-time and full-time workers. The results for the work-family conflict, “employees might adjust their working time arrangement to better reconcile work and family life…” (Jansen) They are considering their next research on the adjustments to “result in an improved work-family balance, improved health outcomes, and ultimately whether these adjustments prevent workers from leaving the labor force early.” (Jansen)
The impact from changes in economy, technology, social and lifestyle in today’s environments have boosted the awareness of flexible working arrangements in an organisation. Evidence from the previous study indicated that the competitive working environment and increasing workload had caused family and personal life being neglected (Mary & Chris, 1998). Smith (1993) pointed out that working women should have balance between tasks in the office and responsibility to the family especially on safety, health and children needs. Therefore, Cook (1992) suggested that through the implementation of flexible working hour’s schedule, the responsibilities over children’s safety and education will be more secured. This is due to the fact that they are able to engage for a better coordination between work and responsibilities to the family. This statement is than further supported by Emmott and Hutchinson (1998). They found out that the implementation of flexible working hours schedule could increase and balance women’s responsibilities in work and family. It is a fact that children need love, food, safety and parents’ attention to ensure that children lead to a normal life. This complies with Maslow’s theory of motivation that emphasizes the aspects of safety, love, needs for food, esteem and self-actualisation that needs to be fulfilled by individual in order to increase the motivation at work.
Effective time management is crucial to achieving team goals, relating to productivity, targets, profit and reputation resulting in lower stress levels. Good time management is making the best use of your time to become more efficient and productive (Demien Kasier 2014). This is important as an individual’s work load will affect others. As a Romec Engineer and an aspiring team leader effective time management will allow me to complete tasks, hit targets set by the Royal Mail, therefore boosting profits. I write this clear and concise reflection to identify and evaluate an academic problem that I feel is negatively impacting my studies which is time management; otherwise, I find lot of difficulty to manage my time.
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
The problem of time management can be said to be universal not only affecting students but also other people in careers. This problem is seen to transition from a person’s life from different cadres of his or her engagement specifically from home, school and at work. It is also a problem that is internal and not external.
In conclusion, good time management doesn't mean you do more work. It means you focus on the tasks that matter and will make a difference. Good time management effectively helps manage stress as this gives control over what is required to be done. Whether it’s on the job or in lifestyle as a whole, learning how to manage your time effectively will help you feel more relaxed, focused and in control. The more in control you are of your time the less stressed up you become.
Those who do not enjoy their work or their working environment, tend to be the ones looking for a work life balance, looking for an escape/ relaxation moment from what they do not enjoy doing. This is not always the case. Parents could argue that the problem is not the job they work at, but the role of fulfillment they need to achieve in their child’s life. Since 68% of families with children in today’s society have fathers and mothers fulfilling both roles of being parents while at the same time providing a source of income for the family, work life balance needs to be taken into account (ACAS, 2013). Xerox’s CEO Ursula Burns has the solution to those hesitant parents in her company, stating that being able to “check out” for a family event is something an employee is able to do, but to also remember that balances should be placed; a parent isn’t needed at every event and children will understand (Graham, 2013).
What do we know about time management? As adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be. This alone should encourage us to learn about time management. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
The limitation of this essay is that no survey has been conducted, and so further research could be done regarding significant issues in time management.

You accomplish more, you make better decisions, and you work more efficiently; this leads to a more successful life. It can be the key difference between getting projects done and ultimately failing.
