For those individuals who are interested in fashion, considering earning a degree in fashion or another related field can be very beneficial when exploring job choices. Most fashion degrees will teach not only the basics of how to create fantastic, unique pieces, but also how to market yourself and your work. Working in the fashion industry isn't only about having an eye for style; fashion is a business, with areas just as complex as any other million-dollar business you may encounter.
The most successful fashion designers are adept in illustration, construction, marketing, predicting consumer behavior, and apparel conceptualization. Most fashion schools will have participants working on the same items and with the same time schedule as would happen in the real world. This way, when students graduate, they will be used to meeting tight deadlines, presenting their own unique ideas, working with other designers, and

“Fashion has the power to not only redefine our own industry, but become a role model for others to reinvent their practices.” Fashion has become an important industry for many women and men. The way that women are dressed is what determines their personality. In the 1900’s to 1939 the women dressed differently. In the 1900’s the women would wear lots of layers underneath their dresses to shape their figure.
The fashion industry comprises of two things, firstly retail and secondly services. The company does not need any introduction with production equipment. The Fashion Industry can be described as a glamorous world with cameras flashing, beautiful models strutting down the runway, in stunning and grand designs. What really goes on behind fashion’s dolled up doors is only an illusion compared to what reality is. Beautiful people, stylish clothing and timeless sophistication all make up the illusion of the glitz and glam of the fashion industry, but behind the curtains countless of models and designers constantly fall victim to this industry’s ever changing wrath. Fashion can be defined as a popular trend especially in styles of dress, ornaments or behavior. A model is a person who poses or displays for art purposes, fashion or other products and advertising. Fashion models are used mainly to promote products focusing mostly on clothing and accessory. The two main type of modeling in the fashion industry is commercial modeling and high fashion modeling. High Fashion models usually work for campaigns, designer’s collections and magazine editorials for high fashion designers. Runway modeling also known as “catwalk modeling” is displaying fashions and is generally performed by high fashion models. In my research paper, my main focus will be the multiple effects on high fashion models based upon the industry’s unregulated standards.
I have always been interested in the arts, in design as well as fashion. Although I know how to sew, I cannot say I want to pursue a career as a fashion designer. The show however has given me a behind the scenes look at the industry and has inspired me to become a fashion merchandiser. I think the ability the show has on bringing out someone’s potential is its greatest strength. A weakness of the show might be that sometimes the wrong contestant is eliminated but that’s more of a matter of opinion. Before Project Runway fashion was an industry the average person didn’t know much about, but since 2004 it has inspired thousands of people to pursue their ambitions, including
My class later voted me as “Best Dressed Guy”. This was just the small boost of motivation for me to actually begin seeking a fashion-influenced school to see how this would all work out. I came across The Fashion Institute of Technology online while researching top fashion design schools. I made a trip from my home in LA to New York City for a fashion styling confidential class at FIT over the 2015 summer. It was an absolute dream.
From the moment I starting my educational path I knew four years wouldn’t be enough to fill me with all the dimensions of the fashion industry. This led me to make my decision to apply for the M.S. Global Fashion Enterprise degree. When asked how this program at Philadelphia University would benefit me, I will begin by giving a background on my previous education. I started my undergraduate degree at Buffalo State College in upstate New York pursuing a Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising. After being in the program for a year I was confident in knowing I needed a change. My journey changed drastically when I moved down to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I transferred to the Art Institute under the same major. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising come this June 2014. My experience at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has uncovered my love of education and research.
One of the things I like the most about the fashion world is that it is always changing, it never stops so you never get bored. We are always experimenting and trying new things, but also we take influences from a previous era, we modify them and create something new. We get inspired by others until we find our own style which also helps others to find their own. I use fashion to express myself and my personality, I like how clothing can portray a message about ourselves and allows us to communicate with each other without using words. People underestimate the power of fashion and the impact that it has in the world, to me fashion is not just artistic expression, it is also a form of social awareness, a critique against the norm and a form of expression for ones social, cultural and political standpoint.
What I hope to gain/learn by completing the Fashion Merchandising/ Retail Management program, is simple to answer, but the why is the interesting part. I never thought I would be the girl to further my education past undergrad. Four years ago when I walked the campus of Virginia State University as a business management major, I thought I had my career path all figured out. I was going to be an interior designer, who flipped homes and resold them on the market at a reasonable value price. It was a practical career, and real estate was a job field that I could straight out of college.
I enjoy making sketches of clothing that one day will hopefully be available in stores all over. Fashion designing in my opinion is a way to express the unique side of your creativity, also fashion designing is a career that I believe I can achieve in so highly if I stay focused and continue to putting forth effort in my creations. I could see interior designing as a possible career in my future because it’s somewhat similar to fashion designing just in the designing area. Both involve having a since of style and an eye for color, texture and pattern coordination.
When I first went off to college I had no idea what I wanted to major in, all I knew was that I wasn’t interested in any majors I was familiar with. I decided to major in psychology, what’s more interesting than getting to know the human mind, apparently I wasn’t interested at all and my grades show for it. It was only when I joined a modeling troupe at Winston Salem State University by the name of Epiphany that I realized that I’m in love with fashion. I loved styling the outfits I wore for the “fashion shows” and the outfits I wore on campus that helped me get nominated for best dressed freshman on campus. After being nominated I decided to look for ways to make fashion my career.
While growing up, I realized the benefits a person has when they personally own their own business. You can make your own schedule, personally control your finances, and essentially have complete control of your business Of course upon this realization; I came to the conclusion that I was going to be my own boss. I have always taken pride in how I present myself including how I dress. The limitless nature of fashion and its versatility has always intrigued me. One empowering aspect of clothing that is so fascinating is how it enables people to express themselves. Because of these interests, I have come to the conclusion that I wish to own a fashion boutique. In order to pursuit the path of becoming a fashion boutique owner, it is essential that I obtain a degree in business management, evaluate my own skills that make me ideal for the job, and
The philosophy with which I approach my education are that all institutions of learning are somewhat like a factory assembly line, where students are molded and are expected to meet certain specific standards by the time they graduate. Education is significantly important for a positive future. Education allows people to reach their fullest potential and help others later on reach their fullest potential. In this paper in I will try to provide information on how I came about choosing my career choice in the fashion industry, from academic excellence, life-long learning, collaboration, openness, integrity, and service.
