Section I – Career Path
My ultimate goal is to be a “buyer” for a clothing store, and to be able to travel the world. A buyer is an individual who selects what items will be sold in a store, based on his or her forecasts on what will be well-liked by consumers. For smaller independent stores, a buyer may partake in sales as well as advertising. However, in a major fashion industry, there may be different levels of superiority, such as novice buyers, assistant buyers, senior buyers and buying managers, and buying directors. Decisions about what to stock can greatly affect fashion businesses.
This career field would fall under the fashion merchandise category in the field of Family and Consumer Science. A major or minor in business is also very helpful for this career choice. A minimum of an associate’s degree, in fashion, is required for individuals pursuing an entry-level position in the fashion industry. A bachelor’s degree is required for most careers in the fashion industry, and to become a fashion “buyer” a bachelor’s degree is necessary. A master’s degree in fashion can open up the door to several more opportunities in the fashion world. Most company’s in the fashion industry consider a master’s degree to be an sign that your abilities exceed those of most of the professionals in the field and are, as a result, willing to pay you more and offer you better opportunities if you have a master’s.
A love of fashion, an eye for detail, good communication skills, sewing skills, creativity, the ability to keep up with current trends and work well with others are all vitally important if you’re trying to obtain a fashion career. However, obtaining these qualities alone still is not enough to succeed in the fashion indus...

...I feel like everyone else around me is pursuing a career in ministry. I felt discouraged for a while that maybe I was not making the right career choice. However, I have come to realize that God has really called me into the specific career field. I pray that God will use my life to be a light to those around me in the fashion world because it is full of people who need to hear about God’s love.
In order to fulfill my career dreams of being a fashion buyer, I have to be willing to go wherever I am needed in the fashion world, and wherever God calls me. I also have to be willing to be flexible with things, and to be patient. Sometimes it can take a while to break into the fashion world, but I really believe that it is all about making the right connections. I need to make sure that I am establishing these connections now to prepare myself later on for the future.
...ssed with such skills to be successful, there is always time to improve both business and designing skills to become a successful fashion designer.

The Boutiques should have their group of Stylists. They should pervade their wide-ranging knowledge of fashion to all of the customers. The work of stylists includes giving ideas to customers, as well as helping them out in finding trying on clothes that would best suit
Nina said at first she didn’t attend a school for fashion but she did eventually. ‘I went to Boston University. My father was very adamant that I needed a career that was not just fashion design. In a way, he was right. So I went to University, and I did liberal arts, and then after I finished I moved to New York, and I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology (one of the biggest fashion schools in New York). I studied fashion and fashion merchandising. By then, I realized that I wasn’t cut out to be a designer.’ A follow up question Cassandra asked her was ‘Did your parents like fashion as much as you?’ and she said that her dad didn’t but her mom loved fashion just as much as her, if not more. She loved fashion and her closet was this oasis of color and shapes and prints and high-heeled shoes that I was dying to wear, and it was all in a walk in closet that I had no access to. So I think that that also peaked my interest, like when you can’t get in somewhere. I remember it was like Ali Baba’s cave! There was jewelry, and there were colors, and there were clothes, and heels, and all you want to do is go in
This profession also has a large business aspect to it and that intrigues me a lot. I have grown up always listening to my dad talk about business and the market and how “the business world” is very important, I’ve have just become more and more interested in finding out all about that. The world of fashion is something that I have always wanted to be a part of, and now, I am working my way there.
Ever since I was able to dress myself I would and wouldn’t let anyone else tell me what to wear. As my family would tell me, they knew that I had my own sense of style from a young age. Over they years my love for fashion and creating things grew and never went away. While taking sewing classes in middle school, I wanted to be a fashion designer and that stayed my top career choice for a while. Once I got to high school I first took a fashion marketing class. In that class we learned a little bit about different marketing and how to promote some stores
The business model that sets Zara apart from other clothing retailers is how rapidly the company changes stocks and releases new product lineups. The company averages 12-16 collections annually which equates to more than one lineup a month. Due to stock being limited and the rapid production Zara brings forth, their items are viewed as exclusive promoting further business. Their customers are happy knowing that their specific article of clothing is more “rare” due to only having an average of a two-week window to purchase the clothing. The company specifically targets current trends and has them in the store within 30 days. This maintains the brand’s uniqueness and relativity in fashion.
Though I self taught myself to illustrate and sew my designs, I have taken sewing and arts classes to aid my portfolio ideas. I have challenged myself to do sewing design projects by setting a designated due date wear or display my work. For instance I had challenged myself to illustrate and design my junior prom dress in less than month. The same thing can go for my DIY track pants, dresses and costumes in which i had given myself a good week to organize, prepare, and present the clothing in which I am proud of. To prepare myself for the retail aspect of fashion design I started working partime at the Hollisters, Menlo Park, NJ; over there I am able to learn and actually see behind the scenes of how retail I set up. In addition, I get help costumers by talking to them and helping them find the clothing that right for
The sign of moving products promptly from a designer’s table to the retail sales floor has swayed the whole global retail commerce and enticed rivalry. Customers value a “new look” that can be worn for this instant and assess the goods as a monetary fortune; not something that you will keep
The fashion industry has changed over a period of time due to the growth of boundaries. This is attributed to the varying dynamics of the industry; declining mass production, altered structural aspects in the supply chain, need for more affordable cost and quality. This shows that fashion retailers are able to acquire a competitive power in the market through making sure through which they get their products to the market for the consumers (McAfee, Dessain, & Sjoman, 2007). Consumers are hence able to get product easy and of high quality. Fast fashion has been able to meet the needs of consumers while trying to acquire major merchandize turnover to retailers than local rivals. The Zara case study reported sales $8.15 billion to its competitors Hennes & Mauritz 0f $7.87 billion (Dutta, 2002). This was the consumer’s one stop shop due to the quality products offered both globally and locally.
The Fashion Industry can be described as a glamorous world with cameras flashing, beautiful models strutting down the runway, in stunning and grand designs. What really goes on behind fashion’s dolled up doors is only an illusion compared to what reality is. Beautiful people, stylish clothing and timeless sophistication all make up the illusion of the glitz and glam of the fashion industry, but behind the curtains countless of models and designers constantly fall victim to this industry’s ever changing wrath. Fashion can be defined as a popular trend especially in styles of dress, ornaments or behavior. A model is a person who poses or displays for art purposes, fashion or other products and advertising. Fashion models are used mainly to promote products focusing mostly on clothing and accessory. The two main type of modeling in the fashion industry is commercial modeling and high fashion modeling. High Fashion models usually work for campaigns, designer’s collections and magazine editorials for high fashion designers. Runway modeling also known as “catwalk modeling” is displaying fashions and is generally performed by high fashion models. In my research paper, my main focus will be the multiple effects on high fashion models based upon the industry’s unregulated standards.
store managers and frontline personnel, play a critical role in the context of Zara’s business model. Using customised PDAs, store managers constantly communicate customer feedback, either hard data such as orders and sales trends or soft data like customer reactions to a new style or the “buzz” around a new design, to Zara’s HQ where the feedback is used by designers to quickly develop new garments based on customers’ wishes (Ferdows et al., 2004). Frontline employees assist their superiors in collecting the feedback. Zara’s store managers and shop assistants thus close the communication loop between shoppers and Zara’s HQ (Ferdows et al., 2004) and therefore contribute hugely to Zara being able to first understand what customers like and then design and produce it (Buck, 2014). Accounting for their key role, Zara pays store managers an above-average salary and up to 100% of their salary in bonuses if they hit sales targets (Ruddick,
I enjoy making sketches of clothing that one day will hopefully be available in stores all over. Fashion designing in my opinion is a way to express the unique side of your creativity, also fashion designing is a career that I believe I can achieve in so highly if I stay focused and continue to putting forth effort in my creations. I could see interior designing as a possible career in my future because it’s somewhat similar to fashion designing just in the designing area. Both involve having a since of style and an eye for color, texture and pattern coordination.
While growing up, I realized the benefits a person has when they personally own their own business. You can make your own schedule, personally control your finances, and essentially have complete control of your business Of course upon this realization; I came to the conclusion that I was going to be my own boss. I have always taken pride in how I present myself including how I dress. The limitless nature of fashion and its versatility has always intrigued me. One empowering aspect of clothing that is so fascinating is how it enables people to express themselves. Because of these interests, I have come to the conclusion that I wish to own a fashion boutique. In order to pursuit the path of becoming a fashion boutique owner, it is essential that I obtain a degree in business management, evaluate my own skills that make me ideal for the job, and
