What I hope to gain/learn by completing the Fashion Merchandising/ Retail Management program, is simple to answer, but the why is the interesting part. I never thought I would be the girl to further my education past undergrad. Four years ago when I walked the campus of Virginia State University as a business management major, I thought I had my career path all figured out. I was going to be an interior designer, who flipped homes and resold them on the market at a reasonable value price. It was a practical career, and real estate was a job field that I could straight out of college. As my four years went on, I realized that real estate, nor interior design, made my heart beat. It didn’t push me to be the best student I can be so I can later on prove myself worthy in the job market and on top of that I hated being a business major. It just didn’t excite me. However, I remained a business major because I knew that whatever my calling was I didn’t want to be limited to the goals and achievements I could reach because I didn’t have the tools or the same knowledge as my fellow jobseekers and I knew that the Reginal F. Lewis College of Business, would provide me …show more content…
This job was a part- time sales associate at Lord & Taylor, at the first store, located 5th Ave. location, working in the men’s causal/ contemporary department. In my first day, my life changed, I had found the thing that made my heart beat, that stressed me out one moment but filled me with joy the next. Before obtaining my position at Lord & Taylor, I believed my love for clothes and finding and putting together outfits for friends and family and of course for myself was just me being “girlie”, but now I know, that 10 minutes with a stranger, I can help them find outfit and garment options that they may have never even considered had they not cross my
For the purposes of this paper we will be discussing the boycott effects on Abercrombie & Fitch; a U.S based clothing company. At first we will analyse the concept of boycotting international companies to understand the different choices boycotters make when targeting the guilty company. We will look at the history of the company; it’s beginnings, evolution of concept, failures and successes. An important part of this paper will be assessing the main factors and reasons that led to the boycott. We are going to be analysing the effects of the boycott keeping in mind that although the reasons behind the controversial boycott have taken place a couple of years ago, only in 2013 has the boycott been initiated by several different parties involved. To be able to understand what triggered the boycott to begin we are going to try to understand how it all came about to begin with. There are several concerned parties in the boycott and each have their own agenda and reasoning to boycott the company. To give a more thorough analysis of the initiators of this particular boycott their relation to one another will be discussed in the paper. Another important part of the boycott is the different types of effects that these boycotters have on the company. We will closely study the reasons, the effects, the affected parties, and the path for damage control and reconciliation chosen by Abercrombie & Fitch as well as its results both the negative and the positive. Finally we will discuss the effectiveness of the boycott on the Abercrombie’s internationalization, market strategy, competitiveness, and market activities.
In the beginning of 2012, I lost my job and have been searching for a job for several months. At that time I was very stressed because I could not find anything that was suitable for me. One weekend, I decided to go to the shopping mall for some window shopping because i...
If you’ve ever been to a clothing store before, you have probably seen this phrase on a tag, one size fits all or one size fits most, but do you think one size really fits all? Whether too small or too big the reality is, one size does not fit all or most, “one size fits no one.” Companies each day are manipulating clothing by “vanity sizing” or “insanity sizing” which is a term that means, companies are manufacturing articles of clothing to be small or smaller than the normal size in order to increase sales. “Vanity sizing started off as a marketing tool.” Original sizing charts never had sizes 0 or 2 on them, until now because we are finally realizing that there are millions of sizes in the world. So companies are adding
From an early age we are told, “We can be anything we want in America; we just have to work hard enough”, but is this a viable statement? Greogory Howard Williams and Lubrano’s text both are proff that is it. In Life on the Color Line by Gregory Howard Williams the notion of hard work pays off is one that comes up quite often by the end of the book. Williams talks about a time when he spent an entire day educating himself on the many topics of school which he describes as, “Long, long, hours passed as I hunched over the card table in my room reading history, drafting English compositions, and struggling to understand science” (Williams, 172). This is something that many kids today can relate to thanks to the increased workload in schools around
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
Fashion is a form people use as a way for self expression. For me, fashion dictates how a person sense of style is; some may be bold and loud or simple and calm in which it also gives others an outlook on how their character may be. Although fashion is a way to express ones’ sense of style it does not tells us who the person is personally. Fashion in the society of the 1900s has changed female gender roles then and now by the way their roles changed during the time.
I am so excited to see what FIDM has for me in the future. When I was 15 years old, I worked in my mom’s clothing boutique and really had a fun experience working there. My job was to help customers out with fitting rooms, helping customers pick out clothes, and working the cashier. It was so good to be able to get that type of experience so young because I kind of got a taste of what the whole fashion world looked like. One thing that was awesome about working there was that i got to learn how to deal with customers even though it was tough sometimes.
From the moment I starting my educational path I knew four years wouldn’t be enough to fill me with all the dimensions of the fashion industry. This led me to make my decision to apply for the M.S. Global Fashion Enterprise degree. When asked how this program at Philadelphia University would benefit me, I will begin by giving a background on my previous education. I started my undergraduate degree at Buffalo State College in upstate New York pursuing a Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising. After being in the program for a year I was confident in knowing I needed a change. My journey changed drastically when I moved down to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I transferred to the Art Institute under the same major. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising come this June 2014. My experience at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has uncovered my love of education and research.
Visual merchandising is a concept of presenting your retail space in an elegant way. It’s a channel for the retail house to create their own distinctive identity to develop a sense of their product’s character and define the themes of their range from its physical contours redefined by visual merchandising.
It was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and place the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. In addition, when viewing what I value in the workplace, I realized that I find intellectual stimulation, security, and economic rewards to be the most important values.
It was a Saturday afternoon, when my friend Jalissa came over and wanted me to go to the mall with her. Jails had just gotten hired at the mall and hadn’t been on a shift since. On the car ride to the mall, she mentioned that she had gotten the job at Aeropostale and that the manager was still looking for employees. Being desperate for a job and money, I took it all in and as soon as we got to our destination, I was ready to put on my professional mask. Walking into the store, which I hadn’t shopped there in years because it was always so expensive. I noticed a tall, lean, and handsome guy in the back folding shirts, that guy was Cornell Brown, the store manager . I had spoken with him and mentioned that I wanted an opportunity to work for the company and he nonchalantly handed me an application and I quickly ran to a nearby store for a pen to fill it out. After about five minutes, I was back with the piece of paper that could be my golden ticket for a job. Cornell began to ask me questions, the question t...
While growing up, I realized the benefits a person has when they personally own their own business. You can make your own schedule, personally control your finances, and essentially have complete control of your business Of course upon this realization; I came to the conclusion that I was going to be my own boss. I have always taken pride in how I present myself including how I dress. The limitless nature of fashion and its versatility has always intrigued me. One empowering aspect of clothing that is so fascinating is how it enables people to express themselves. Because of these interests, I have come to the conclusion that I wish to own a fashion boutique. In order to pursuit the path of becoming a fashion boutique owner, it is essential that I obtain a degree in business management, evaluate my own skills that make me ideal for the job, and

Fashion is a controversial issue in society nowadays. We live in a consumerism advanced era in which whether following fashion trends or not has become a debatable point. Many people believe that it is important to follow fashion trends. For example, Lord Chesterfield once said, “If you are not in fashion, you are nobody.” The question is why fashion should be an essential matter of concern to all of us. As far as I am concerned, each person should be able to decide if one wants to follow a trend or not.
