Family, one word with so many definitions, but what truly defines what a family is? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines family as the following, a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head. I like this definition of family because it says nothing about a family being related by blood, but that they are individuals. Personally think that blood doesn’t make you family, being provided and cared for and properly taken care of and loved makes you family. Not all families are blood related, there’s families that have adopted kids, families that have no kids, families that consist of two people and a pet or two. There is no rule that states all families have to have a mother, father, and children. Every family differs …show more content…
My immediate family that I live with consists of me, mom and dad, two little brothers, one little sister and one dog, that’s six people in one home, my family is loud, crazy, funny, and always on the go. But once we get to a family function, all of that is magnified by 100! There’s even times when it get a bit overwhelming to be around my dad’s side of the family, since we’re mostly around that side. My nana, which is my dad’s mom, so my grandma, is where all of the barbecues and birthday parties and random get togethers take place. For almost any occasion, football games, UFC fights, boxing matches, or just for a random get together, that’s where you’ll find me and my family. There doesn’t ever really need to be a special event for my family to get together, well at least on my dad’s side. Being with dad’s side of the family is almost always a good time filled with love and laughter, we all genuinely enjoys each other’s company. My mom’s side however, we usually only go around when there’s a birthday or some kind of special event. My mom’s side of the family is...complicated. I love them dearly, but there’s always some kind of drama with them. The times when everyone is actually getting along, it’s a blast. Whenever my family has a quince or a wedding or a big birthday party, …show more content…
In many ways Christmas is similar to Thanksgiving in the way we celebrate it. We switch sides, sometimes Christmas is at our house, tons of food is made and we play games. Depending on what side of the family we’re spending Christmas with, there’s a theme, for example, about two or three years ago we spent Christmas with my mom’s side of the family and it was a pajama party and last Christmas we spent with my dad’s side the theme was ugly Christmas sweaters. Every year no matter where we spend Christmas, we always have to get some of my great grandma’s amazing and delicious Champurrado. She makes Champurrado every single year, she won’t tell anyone how she makes it for some reason, but her Champurrado is like heaven in a cup. On both sides of my family,it’s tradition for us get together on Christmas Eve and we have dinner, watch movies, play games, and even take naps, all until midnight and that’s when we open our presents. Also, on both sides, the adults do White Elephant and sometimes depending on what the majority vote is, they’ll do a secret santa exchange. The only thing my mom’s side of the family does differently than my dad’s, is that prior to getting together on Christmas Eve, the adults put each kid’s name in a hat and each person draws a name, and the name they draw is the kid they have to buy a gift for, and they’ll say the least or most amount of money they can spend on that gift.
What is a family? People you’re related to? People you live with? According to Webster.com, it is a combination of those things. However, this definition could vary depending on who you ask. My parents are still together and happily married. I have two siblings, a brother and a sister. We all got along quite well for the most part. We used to eat as a family every night, and we went to church on Sundays. Although I got along well with my family I have never been really too close to them. I never really went to my parents when I needed help, and actually I have never really needed that much help too often in my life. My family is usually taken for granted by me. Without them I most certainly would not be in the same circumstances as today. They support me a lot more than I deserve to be supported. I’ve always been a lot closer to my friends and they are almost like a family to me. My real family is probably a lot more important in the big picture though. The way I think and feel about things I mostly got from how I was raised. I am who I am because of my family. I am a fan of the Green Bay Packers and this is not just the way I am with no reason to support it. My father is also a fan of the Packers and because I grew up with him being a fan, I inherited his values when it comes to a sports

As a child, family was very important to me. My parents made it very clear that the people in your family are the people that are going to be on your side for the rest of your life. My parents were young when they had me so they needed some extra help. Although they did everything in their power to make sure their work schedules were set so that somebody would always be at home to watch me, that just wasn 't always possible. When in doubt, my granny would always come through. I began to build a very strong bond with her being that she was one of my main care takers. Over the years my parents started to figure things out so they no longer needed grannies help. But this is not what I wanted. Instead of

To me, family is a group of people that are brought together by blood, adoption, or marriage. I also believe that people do not have to be blood-related to be considered a family. If two or more people have a connection with one another where they can rely and depend on each other and have an emotional attachment, I also believe that to be considered family. Golics, Azam, Finlay, & Salek (2010), define family as a diverse group of people that care for each other on a day-to-day basis (p. 400). My mother and father are still married after 27 years. I grow up from a traditional Chinese family and I just come to America for 4 years. Almost all my family members in the last few generations grew up and lived in China. My family is originated from the southern China and we were the official of the late Qing government. During the first half of the 20th century, most of my family members stay in Shanghai and Hongkong to escape violence. Only few of them had been America for a better education to save the nation in the last 30s. Nowadays, starting from the last generation, some of my family members start to immigrant to different countries such like America, Canada and Japan for a better environment.
