How often do you employ negative coping strategies? Not often, but I do drink a lot of coffee and iced tea (not sure why that is a negative coping strategy) and I do drive fast in my car, but legally with a lot of safety equipment. The best way to do this is to seek professional help when I need it and to spend time with people who make me happy and motivated. By engaging in happy and friendly activities with family, friends, and loved ones I should be able to build up optimism. In doing so fighting low self esteem and low self confidence will be easier and almost immediate. Thus working on these factors will motivate and assist me in accomplishing my overall target behavior of doing regular check-ups and recognizing symptoms of disease.

Withdrawal is always best for changing the uncomfortable situation, and I am glad to hear you love your new job. My example for the defensive coping is about denial too. I engage in a lot of self-soothing and avoidance behaviors which are I’m very stubborn, have a temper, I’m an observer, not a big talker, I keep my circle of friends very small, I find it hard to trust anyone outside of my intermediate family. For self-soothing I use a lot of distractions to help me by diverting my attention away from what every emotion I’m dealing with at the time. I use sports as one distraction. I try to play basketball at least two-three times a week. I also use the gym as a distraction by working out three-four days a week. I engage in some though suppression a well. I believe that everyone sees the world differently. What a person calls the color “red” could be completely different than what another person sees. And because everyone sees the world differently, my worst day couldn’t be seen as the “worst day” to others. They could see that I’m having a hard time but not realize what I’m really going through. I personally get upset over small things because it messes with my “daily routine”. I lost my pencil one day, the only pencil I use for everyday work. I felt like everything was over. I didn’t like the thought of having to change my pencil and grow accustomed to it. It’s strange of me, I know but it’s how I work. My friends noticed that I started writing slower and constantly stopping to think and question the comfort of using another pencil.
