Psychology in Everyday Life I never noticed how much psychology could be incorporated into everyday life. But really, any decision or action you take is related to it. I have personally been extremely interested in social psychology: why people do things because of social norms, what people do in order to look socially acceptable, etc. Others topics I also find interesting are sensation and perception; how past experiences can influence how you perceive the things around you, states of consciousness; how things that have happened in your day can be transferred into a mash of events in your dreams, motivation and emotion; what makes a person do something or what makes a person start or stop procrastination, and lastly: personality; what characteristics and traits stand out the most in a person, what makes a person who they are. I believe that everyone sees the world differently. What a person calls the color “red” could be completely different than what another person sees. And because everyone sees the world differently, my worst day couldn’t be seen as the “worst day” to others. They could see that I’m having a hard time but not realize what I’m really going through. I personally get upset over small things because it messes with my “daily routine”. I lost my pencil one day, the only pencil I use for everyday work. I felt like everything was over. I didn’t like the thought of having to change my pencil and grow accustomed to it. It’s strange of me, I know but it’s how I work. My friends noticed that I started writing slower and constantly stopping to think and question the comfort of using another pencil. They of course thought this was strange but they didn’t say anything about it. I keep a dream log. I wake up in the morning... ... middle of paper ... ...rait. I want to know how other people view me, though. It’s simply curiosity and I want to know how different I view myself in comparison to how they view me. Choices a person makes: whether or not to follow the status quo, follow what is “socially acceptable”, etc. can determine a person’s entire future. I find it interesting to see how social standards change a person and how they feel. Popular trends can lead to exclusion if a person chooses not to follow it, putting pressure on them. I’ve always been interested in social psychology because it can be applied in everyday life and lead a person to success. Knowing psychology can help you in your everyday life. I believe that you are able to apply it to many situations and make it the best you can. I really look forward to earning more in depth about many of these topics in psychology, especially social psychology.
