My experience serving for Georgia Athletic Hospitality has been beneficial in my search for a career in the field of Sports Management. Through this practicum I have learned more about what it is that I want to do, and I have also learned what paths I no longer want to pursue. I am thankful for the experiences I have had. The practicum has also helped me learn how to better handle a high paced environment. I was able to network with valuable contacts and form relationships that will help me in my future. Georgia Athletic Hospitality is unique and structured organization. I will go into further detail using a SWOT analysis to show the overall position of the company. I will also analyze my own position within the company and my experience though this practicum. Lastly I want to reflect on my thoughts of the practicum and what I plan to take away from this experience.
The organization I work for is Georgia Athletic Hospitality (GAH). The Colonnade Group, a sports production and event management company based in Birmingham, Alabama manages the GAH office. GAH handles the management and operation of the Sanford Stadium SkySuites, Champion’s Club, SkyClub, and Stegeman Coliseum’s courtside seating and hospitality for Men’s Basketball and Gymnastics. It relies on the help of student ambassadors, who are directly interacting with guests. The mission of GAH is to bring the best possible game experience to premium seat holders at the University of Georgia.
The organization of GAH is straightforward and simplified, which makes communication easy and efficient. It starts from the bottom level, which are the student ambassadors. That is the job I currently serve in. Up from that are the floor captains, who are also students. They tend to b...

...s. I am thankful for all those I got to meet through this internship, and I am especially thankful to have had Bethany as a boss. I have an even greater deal of respect for the hospitality industry and I cannot wait to learn more about the sports world as a whole. This experience has served me well in my senior year and the lessons I learned here will serve me well in my career. I hope to one day possibly be an Athletic Director or a General Manager. I will probably have to interact with people in the hospitality industry and it will be much easier to understand what they require to be successful and how I can help them. Now my mission is to continue on with my experience and to learn as much as possible about the different careers within sport and how it all intertwines. I will continue to strive for greatness and to be the best possible friend and worker I can be.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association is an organization that some universities are a part of, but not recommended to join. It is a non-profit association that regulates athletics of institutions, conferences, organizations, and individuals. It organizes the athletic programs of colleges and universities in the United States. It is designed to help prolong the lifelong success of college athletes. There are 1,121 college and universities, 99 conferences, and 39 affiliated organizations. There are over 460,000 athletes that make up the 19,000 teams that participated in over 54,000 competitions each year. My SWOT analysis will identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the association, when it comes to its daily business, finances, and rules and regulations of this organization.
I want to bring a multi-purpose Slamball facility to Atlanta’s everyday athletes. I would like to attract college students, weekend warriors, and everyday athletes. Once I have attracted these people to my facility I will begin leagues and televised games.
...n conclusion, the University of Oklahoma successfully demonstrates its commitment to success in the classroom and on the field by providing the SHC, which ensures a family atmosphere for community members. This community is kept strong by assuring its members are provided with the tools, resources, and “home-like” atmosphere necessary to excel both academically and athletically. My observations of this community are that structure, fun, and educational support tools helps guides athletes in the right direction since performativity plays a large role in their lives.
My group previously visited the Sheraton Hotel for our first interview with the front desk manager and it went very well. We decided to keep with the same hotel for our next interview, but due to a last-minute cancellation from the housekeeping manager we were not able to complete the interview. Due to this situation, I will be talking about a whole different hotel - G6 Hospitality. The name G6 Hospitality refers to the hotel brands – Motel 6 and Studio 6. I chose to G6 Hospitality because it is a well-known company that I wanted to know about more in-depth. From all my research, I have gained a lot of insight on what G6 Hospitality is all about.
Coordinates and supervises men=s basketball, golf, baseball, men=s and women=s tennis programs working directly with the Head Coach; supervises the administration of all other varsity programs through the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations.
As the leader of a Level 2 group, I enjoyed the opportunity to create a safe, engaging environment for my members. While preparing for the group activity, good organizational skills are valuable in creating a highly structured group. Members of the group need an environment that
The infrastructure of an intercollegiate and interscholastic athletic program is vital to attract potential student-athlete. To train them to be the best they can be, and allow to be in a haven where they can focus on important tasks that are ahead of them. From luxurious locker rooms, to outfitted weight rooms, and even to the basic shower stalls, athletic fieldhouses and team centers are expanding and getting bigger and better each year. Sometimes it cannot be all about football and men’s basketball at universities, or even just the male sports. There must be that equal access of facilities by both genders to comply with the policies of Title IX. When President Richard Nixon signed the Title IX of the Education Amendments in 1972, it said “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation, in be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance” (“Title IX Legal Manual”). Athletic administrators have to be careful when it comes to facility design and usage, as a simple denial by a coach or facility manager can lead to an equity issue if nothing is handled the right way.
Back in my high school, one day out of the month was dedicated to student-led clubs. On these so-called club days, most kids will go to any club just to get out of class. Some exclusive clubs, such as the Chess club, would look down on this. These groups would happily kick some kids, but there was one club happy to see everyone who came: the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The little exposure to Christianity found at this club was all that some kids would get and the moderators of my school’s club knew this. Little by little, this is FCA’s nation-wide goal: to change the world into knowing Jesus Christ. This non-profit organization is responsible for everything from small club meetings in middle schools, high schools, and colleges, to massive summer camps. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes’s website lists the group’s mission which is to present the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence (FCA). No matter whether on the court or in a group-led bible study, FCA focuses on this mission.
The concept of college athletics has been around for more than approximately 150 years (Siegel). From the very beginning, college athletics were destined to become a full-fledged, vital part in higher education. Their importance and significance from the start until now is undeniable. College athletics play a valuable role and are beneficial to institutions in ways such as promoting positive character development among athletes, establishing unity from a surplus of people, and supporting college experiences and traditions. These are just a few of their contributions to higher education. Although there are various controversies surrounding these points, they are just some of the reasons that athletics will remain embedded in university life for decades to come.

The Student Government Association is a very important organization that makes a large impact on Willard High School. I would like to be a part of changing and improving how the school operates and is organized. I believe that being a part of SGA will be very beneficial in many aspects, including helping me learn how to be more confident in any future position and become a better leader. Each year, the members of this group have been in charge of bettering everyone’s experience and I qualify in aiding them in the upcoming year.
The second MBA goal that can be addressed is the responsibility of an MBA to have the ability to identify and solve ethical dilemmas. This book has a chapter that addresses the human resource management side of event management. An event manager will be responsible for managing different types of events. Because of the variety of employees, the event manager will have to utilize many tools in managing the employees. This chapter gives very specific steps to take in hiring personnel to work in sporting events to ensure that the hiring manager does not break any laws.
The class syllabus touched on how "International Management Group is considered the prototype sports marketing and management agency." After reading this book, understanding how Mark McCormack came to be the recipient of such praise was not hard grasp. The business lessons laid out in stories are practical, serving as excellent way to teach the reader and at the same time entertaining, keeping the pages turning. What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School touches on a broad spectrum of subjects creating diversity and leaving something for everyone.
It was not at all what I thought it would be and I honestly realized along the way this is not a department I would want to work in. The desk work and the constant time on the computer really turns me off from working in any department that entails sitting in one spot for six hours. To counter that I did go out to shoot promotional videos and I had the opportunity to go to some events that I would never be able to go to without 6abc, but the time spent at the desk really makes those events less intriguing. I was hoping to do a lot more on camera projects when starting this internship, but I spent a lot of time behind the camera which I was not used to. I do think that having this internship was very important because it taught me a lot about how much goes into promoting a news station. I now appreciate all of the people that aren’t on television because they do most of the dirty work. Our talent do write some of their stories, but their job seems a lot more relaxing than some of the other employees. I loved interacting with the talent more than anything because I hope one day to be in their shoes. Adam Joseph is such a sweetheart and I am honored to have worked closely with him on projects along with all of the 6abc talent. Watching them with fans at events make me even more driven to be the best I can be and get a fan base like they all have
I can’t wait to move forward with future internships, jobs, and opportunities that will present themselves. MKI gave me a set of practical skills about the PR and advertising world, but it also gave me the confidence and reinforcements to know that I am wanted in a professional world. The ladder can’t be taught, but rather understood over a course of time. I understand now that I’m equipped with the confidence to move forward and I’m ready to learn once again. Foe the time being, I will close out this internship on a good note with the mindset that I will go out of my way to be sure to maintain the relationships and connections I’ve made at MKI with both my bosses, and my fellow interns. At the end of the internship, and several years down the road, I know I’ll be able to think back to this first real job as the stepping stone foundation that I needed to prepare myself for the world
