Frequently, people are so confident in their ability’s they cannot imagine someone helping them get better in their skills. The role of a coach becomes imperative because the coach guides the individuals in the team towards making changes, applying their techniques and expertise to benefit the team. For the evolution of a group to take place, the following needs to happen: leadership, accountability, mission, and problem-solving. The coach ensures support in providing accountability for his team. Leadership becomes a shared responsibility among the group, such as the three-thirds HR at Google. All three-thirds have to come together and meet on common grounds. Each member is held accountable for getting something done, for example, if the coach tells his team to practice basketball drills, but the coach forgets the balls to practice with, this creates a problem with accountability. His actions have hindered the entire practice
Coaching is an integral part of helping achieve one’s maximum abilities. Dr. Gawande (2013) explains that, “Coaches are not teachers, but they teach. They’re not your boss—in professional tennis, golf, and skating, the athlete hires and fires the coach—but they can be bossy” (p. 3). It is difficult to say what is the exact function of a coach, however, they help bring forth another point of view different from our own and they also help bring about the right mindset in order to subdue a weakness.

During 1985 Coach was sold to diversified food and consumers group Sara Lee and expanded quickly from there. By the late 1980`s they had expanded into 12 exclusive Coach retail stores including roughly 50 boutiques selling Coach products in department stores. In 1996 Reed Krakoff joined Coach, who was a key player in positioning Coach as an accessible luxury brand. In October 2000, Coach went public under the name of Coach Inc. The acronym breaks down as follows: Conviction Driven: never compromise your beliefs-Overlearning: practice until it is perfect-Audible-Ready: know when to change-Consistency: respond predictably to performance-Honesty-Based: walk your talk. John Wooden, Vince Lombardi and Bill Walsh all have similar styles of coaching and philosophies. Each coach has had thier fair amount of championships and awards. None of them would have reached these goals without imputting their teachings and philosophies to their teams. One was a coach of a high division college, that has a history of winning. On the other hand two are well respected and known coaches in the football world.
My coaching philosophy will come from many experiences I’ve had over the years with different coaches. I’ve played on many different teams and was able to observe many different personalities in coaches. So I know what I like and what I do not like in a coach. I am blessed to have been around so many coaches, because after college I will want to coach for a living. The best part of me wanting to be a coach is that I’ve been in the player’s position, so I will understand more than others.
Coaching is not only showing a team what to do, but explaining to them why it is so. Each game, the coach is accountable for getting all 11 players on the field working as one unit. He's responsible for preparing his team for battle each week and for making sure his game-time decisions are flawless. The coach is not only the head of the team, but a leader for all the players. A coach must maintain a pristine level of emotion and discipline so that he is respected by everyone.
The process of becoming a great Coach requires a mix of intelligence, time, hard work, dedication, and knowledge of the sport that someone is coaching. Coaches have the opportunity to impact the players life in a huge way. Most players want to look up to their coach; because that is how influential that they can be in life. The goals every year of a coach is to win a conference championship and win a major championship. The goals vary every year for certain teams and coaches. This, I believe is a very important part of coaching, because as a coach you are looked not only as an authority figure but as a role model. I would not be the athlete or person that I am today, if it were not for the role models and coaches that pushed me to be the best that I could be. They were people that I was able to look up to athletically as well as people I knew I could trust. Having a good coaching philosophy is also a large part of being a respectable coach. A coaching philosophy is a set of values and beliefs that a coach develops to help covey his coaching style.
