First, I should be selected for one of the Upward Bound Programs at West Virginia State University because neither of my parents attended college for more than four years. Although my mother is currently attending college to become a registered nurse (RN) she has not attended college for more than four years. I should be chosen because, while I may not be a low income family, I know that I will need financial support when I am attending college. I also want to find a career field I want to pursue. This program would help me do that by giving me many choices of a career field and letting me get experience in that field. After getting experience in that field I would know whether or not I would want to pursue it. Second, I have various goals I want to accomplish in life. One of those goals is graduating with highest honors and I am already working toward this goal by signing up for the maximum amount of honors classes (three) in my ninth grade year. In addition, I wish to be in the top five percentile of my graduating class and possibly obtain the position of valedictorian. Getting an academic and/or …show more content…
athletic scholarship to college would have to be one of my goals too. After high school, I intend on attending an Ivy League College for four years to get my bachelor's degree. After college I will get a great job I enjoy that pays me a satisfying amount of money so I can be able to buy a nice car and house. I want to have enough money to go on out-of-state vacations with my family during the summer. I will also buy my parents a favorable new house to repay them for all of the sacrifices they made for me. Third, the Upward Bound Programs would guide me in achieving my goals in the sense that it would simply give me the opportunity to attend college.
It would aid me in finding a career field I would want to pursue. I would have help paying for college. I could also enter college with enough credits to be a sophomore instead of a freshman. This program would also increase my chances of obtaining an academic scholarship to college, which is one of my goals. In conclusion, I acquire many high academic goals that I know I can achieve if I have the right support system. This program combined with my parents would be the best support system a person could have. I meet the qualifications needed to apply. If I am accepted into this program I fully understand that I have to make a long-term commitment to participate in it and I am more than willing to make that
commitment.
I want to strive for the best grades. I also want to be more involved with our community here in Sedalia and neighboring cities.
It can train me to be properly prepared with a college mindset instead of having that mindset that is still in high school. I can gain a bachelors, possibly a masters, degree as I go to college. Having a bachelors or masters degree gives me not just a sense of accomplishment by making my family proud, but also a feeling of accomplishment of how far I have overcame to reach that degree. But all of this would not happen if it were not for the help of this program that will soon become the backbone of living a better life.
I believe that in order to be a part of this program that I need to excel academically and demonstrate the characteristics that NJHS looks for. I should be chosen to be a member of this program because I display the characteristics required to be a part of NJHS. Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character are all things that I show and that I know I have. If I am chosen to be a part of this program, I promise to follow through as best as I can do. I will fulfill my duties as a member of NJHS and help others to the best of my
My Senior year in High School has officially begun, only one more year at Corona High. I know that Senior year is supposed to be fun, but I believe every year is an opportunity to improve. I have already set my goals for this school year. I believe I can achieve a GPA of 4.0 or above. However, there are some personal goals that I need to complete first. I need to stop my terrible habit of procrastinating. Another goal of mine is to pass my AP tests so I can earn college credit. I also want to learn new things, so I started to learn the basics of Coding, now I need to finish this course. These are some things I look to accomplish this year.
In a world where most college freshmen do not graduate or dropout, i feel like it would mean to much more to me to graduate and be able to say I got my degree. studies have said that half of freshman will not complete there degree, another study said that 25% of freshmen will change their major before they finish their sophomore year. If i was given this scholarship money it would put me in a place where hopefully I won't become just another statistic. Another reason a college degree is important for me to achieve is so that i will be respected in my work industry of choice. When you are in a place of work, there is always someone who everyone looks up to because they know the most about certain things, but more often than not that person has the highest degree in his or her field. If I was awarded this scholarship i would be more capable of being that person because i would not have to worry about leaving school to figure out how I will pay off my
The main advantage to this is that it allows students to discover their interests. For instance, if a state requires that a student must take three years of chemistry or three years of physics, the student may choose one of those subjects and specialize in it. This in some way will help the pupil choose a college major and maybe a career.
Following the assumptions by Van Parijs, we could also question whether women's higher life expectation could be due to biological reasons. In order to introduce this topic, we can use Paula Casal's Love not war. On the chemistry of good and evil. She develops during her article the main biological reasons for different life expectations by sex.
My immediate goals after completing this program is to take some time off from school, pay off our (additional) student loans, and when the time is right possibly evaluate the feasibility of pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Healthcare Administration or continue on in trying to obtain my Master 's Degree in Nursing. However, I currently foresee immediate challenges to those plans - my eldest child, my son, is currently a junior in high school, aspiring to become a Pharmacist and attend UH Hilo. In addition, my daughter, who is three years younger to my son, is aspiring to become an Ophthalmologist. So as with any parents, I may put my goal aside to help both my children achieve their goals.
As a senior at Woodside High School, it is my goal to stay focused so that I will graduate in June, the year of 2015. My grades have always been superior; I have been on the honor roll every marking period since my freshmen year in high school. I am involved in many extracurricular activities that I love participating in to help others. I have previously volunteered at Greenwood Elementary school, and also at my church. Furthermore, I have been involved in certain clubs, cheerleading, as well as the dance magnet for my four years at Woodside High.
Reaching this goal will require help beyond me and my parents. Receiving this scholarship will make becoming an occupational therapist more possible for me. If I am chosen for this scholarship, it would not only be an investment made in my life, but also the lives that I will be helping through my
I was first introduced to the Upward Bound program in my freshman year. I finally decided that I should apply when I started having trouble in my geometry class. I’m hoping that through Forward Bound that I can find help and encouragement to succeed in the class. Along with the desire to discover a path for my future. The idea of the six week summer program and how it gives a high school a feel for what college could be like in the future is something I want to experience. I like to start things with an idea of what is expected of me and how to accomplish that expectation and I feel that the summer program is my best option to ever gain such experience that could be useful in the future. Both of my parents went to college but were unable to remain in semester classes long enough to obtain a degree in their majors.
I could spend the next 400 words giving you reason after reason for why this program is a good fit for me or all the ways that this program will benefit my future however, I feel that would be as clique as these essays come. In honesty and truth the question, “why acceptance into this program is important to me?”. The answer is simple, the benefits that it will give my children, and the strength, encouragement, and self-esteem it will give me are by far the most important reasons why I would appreciate the consideration for this program. Almost five years ago I found out I was pregnant at a young age with my first son and could not have been more scared. At that time in life I was supposed to be moving off to a college and pursuing my dreams.
During the summer of 2015, I worked as a Resident Advisor in the University of Wisconsin- River Falls Trio Upward Bound. At the end of the program, the students went on a summer trip to New York and I was one of the staffs in charge of chaperone. New York City is huge and it’s an unfamiliar place for me. When I was learning to use public transportation in my hometown, it took a while for me to learn and long enough for me to build up the courage to ride the transportation alone. The trip to New York this time around, I had to familiarize myself with the area and how the public transportation works in New York.
If wealthy individuals are more likely than others to consider the system of inequality fair, what are the chances that the system will ever change?
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
