Journal 1 My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this RN Executive Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301. My quest of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) actually began in the year 2000 while I was a Emergency Medical Technician in the military. With my wife 's and military colleagues ' encouragement, I decided to go back to school to become an RN. I took and completed all my general education requirements for the Associate Degree in Nursing and finally became a nursing student in the Fall of 2001 with intentions to obtain my BSN soon after that. A few weeks after starting the ADN program, the terrible events of 9/11 occurred, setting my military career into high gear by getting promoted through the ranks along with the additional responsibilities. I welcomed the military promotions as a way to supplement my family income while I attended nursing school. Soon after graduating from the ADN program in the Spring of 2003, I became active with the military for about 8 months thus putting my quest for the BSN on hold. In January 2004, I was hired and started working The Queen 's Medical Center (QMC) in January 2004. Two months after completing my new hire orientation, I was recalled to military active duty for 21 months for deployment to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Soon after returning from deployment, I resumed my job at QMC. The military deployment placed our family in a great financial burden, which took us several years to recover from, thus my quest for the BSN was again put on hold. While recovering from o... ... middle of paper ... ... activities. My wife, knowing how hard it was to be in the program, has momentarily agreed in letting me off the hook in barbequing and keeping the "Honey-do-list" to a minimum. My immediate goals after completing this program is to take some time off from school, pay off our (additional) student loans, and when the time is right possibly evaluate the feasibility of pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Healthcare Administration or continue on in trying to obtain my Master 's Degree in Nursing. However, I currently foresee immediate challenges to those plans - my eldest child, my son, is currently a junior in high school, aspiring to become a Pharmacist and attend UH Hilo. In addition, my daughter, who is three years younger to my son, is aspiring to become an Ophthalmologist. So as with any parents, I may put my goal aside to help both my children achieve their goals.
As a new nurse that was approaching my first anniversary of employment, I made the very tough decision to return to school to obtain my BSN. I began the RN-BSN program with the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in August of 2015. My life was already very busy, along with having two children, a husband, and reentering the workforce in a new field, I decided that taking one course at a time would work best for my busy schedule. My focus was to take as many classes as possible, without breaks by following the start dates with the UTA program. There were pre-requisite classes from other schools that I overlapped with the RN-BSN classes because I wanted to complete the program as quickly as possible.
One day I hope to become a Nurse Practitioner giving compassionate and adequate care to those individuals who are less fortunate and are in need of care. My life experiences, educational background, and determination will drive me through what's to come as I prepare myself to gain my BSN and become a Nurse. It is with great pleasure and excitement that I am applying for admission to Colorado Christian University. I never thought after having a family that I would be attending college. I want to show my children that with hard work and a good spirit anything is possible. They look to me for guidance daily as they grow and mature into who they will become both professionally and spiritually. They are the driving life force moving me forward testing myself with every learning experience. After what I have accomplished so far I know that I can go further and complete what I believe will be my impression and imprint on this world. When I am gone I will look back happily at the legacy I have left for my family as well as the persons I will
When thinking of a career I would enjoy, I kept my interests and hobbies in mind. Through life I have developed an interest for helping people, and a career as a Nurse Practitioner will allow me to do so. From going to mission trips and assisting children to lending a hand at the local nursing homes, I knew a career in the medical field was where I needed to be. To begin my research about the career of a Nurse Practitioner, I looked for information on the Choices 360 website. Then I continued my research to the Nurse.org website. Finally, to conclude my inspection of the career, I interviewed Daniel Eddings who is currently attending school to become a Nurse Practitioner. By exploring these two websites and performing an interview, I have gained mounds of information about this
Everyday in this world, elderly, adults, teens or children become ill or get into accidents and need medical attention. Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is vital that a nurse understands that to be a nurse, you need a certain personality and understanding of the field.
It has been over one year since I have started the accelerated nursing program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. When I first started the program in fall 2014, I have no idea what nursing was like. Although I had my bachelor from another institution, everything I learned was very different compared to the information I have learned in School of Nursing. Nursing school has slowly transformed me into a graduate professional nurse based on the professional development that I have completed along the way.
After two years long, hard in an LPN (License Practical Nurse) program Jamie graduated from Nursing School with honors. Five months later She took her NCLEX exam and passed on her first try. For the first time in her life Jamie was doing something for herself rather than her family obligation. She worked as an LPN at Spring Creek Nursing and Rehab for two year then she decided to register into a LPN-RN bridge program to become and RN(Register
It would be an honor to be considered for admission to the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing. I currently attend the NWACC Nursing program and will graduate on May 13, 2016 with an AS and AAS in Nursing. Obtaining my license immediately after graduation is next objective. My intent for the fall of 2016 is to embark on my journey as a student at the University of Arkansas. The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing offers an intense, rigorous, well-balanced education and that is what I desire. Many graduates from the EMSON program have recommended it; this carries great weight with me as it is based on personal experience. Consequently, my ambition is to attend the RN to BSN online program at EMSON. Upon receipt of my BSN, I intend to purse my DNP in
At this time, my short term goals are to complete the BSN program, while concurrently finishing rehabilitation for my back. Unfortunately, recovery is estimated to be 12 months, therefore, I still have around 6 months left in the process. In addition, I anticipate graduating from the BSN program in the fall. Once I have achieved my short term goals, I plan to seek out a nursing position within the hospital. After securing a job, my plans are to continue working for two to three years before
Upon being accepted at the Georgia Military College, I determined that I would spend my two years retaining everything I could in order to successfully become a registered nurse. Not only does getting my associates degree in Science and Pre-Nursing get all of my prerequisites out of the way, it is preparing me for my further education afterwards. In high school, every career goal test and
My academic goal is to graduate in the Top 10% of my class. I have gained knowledge of the nursing profession through classroom training activities, local medical facility visits, inspirational speakers and mentor presentations. It has motivated me to continue my education. It has also helped me realize that taking care of the needs of others is important; the way in which I can do this is by becoming a nurse. I know this is my calling to care for others, and for me this program has made it possible. I propose to myself to get at least an A in all my
Upon completion of receiving my degree, I plan on applying to both the University of Pennsylvania and Texas A & M in hopes of completing my goals within two to three years. At this time my husband and I will also be trying to secure our families future by purchasing a home near my work. Additionally my husband and I are in the process of filling for a green card so my mother can become a citizen of the United States. After my mother citizenship has been approved and is able to live in America, this is when I will look into having a baby. Having at least one child would be hard but by having a great support network in place would make the situation an ideal one for my
In the summer semester if 2015, I begin taking courses at Old Dominion University’s RN>BSN program. I originally enrolled in the program because I was aware that obtaining a bachelor’s degree would soon become a requirement at the many local hospitals in my area. As a new nursing graduate I was oblivious to what benefits of having a bachelor’s degree could offer. I was going to school because I had to not because I wanted to. While taking courses I had hopes of accomplishing a new found knowledge of what it means to be a nurse and learn the career pathways that lay ahead of me. The information that I have learned has definitely changed what my outlook was and what goals I want to achieve as a registered nurse. I plan
The road to becoming a registered nurse is a long and tiring one. Everyone I talk to tells me that I will be so much happier doing something I love, and I have wanted to do forever. I am currently taking pharmacy classes which will help me in the future with knowing all the medicines, calculations, and how they affect the human body, also what they are used to treat. I am excited to share with you how I will go about taking all the required courses to become an RN within the next five years.
Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
Reflecting back, this program has enriched my professional career, knowledge, and perspective of nursing in various ways. I believe I have developed advanced critical thinking and analytical skills, high EI based on learned knowledge, flexibility to accept change, and rational reasoning/knowledge to understand EBP and nursing research. The program offered me more than I had expected, in terms of knowledge, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, competency, and creativity. Each course and its innovative learning style (e.g., voice thread, youseeu, journal club, etc.) challenged, empowered, and motivated me to perform better, aim higher, and excel. Upon graduation, I intend to take a minimum six month break to enjoy quality family time and social life before embarking on a master
