Using the SMART goal setting system will help you maintain focus on your short and long-term goals, which will help to keep you on track (Lewis, 2000, p. 15). Therefore, setting realistic goals is important to achieve realistic and timely outcomes. At this time, my short term goals are to complete the BSN program, while concurrently finishing rehabilitation for my back. Unfortunately, recovery is estimated to be 12 months, therefore, I still have around 6 months left in the process. In addition, I anticipate graduating from the BSN program in the fall. Once I have achieved my short term goals, I plan to seek out a nursing position within the hospital. After securing a job, my plans are to continue working for two to three years before …show more content…

Depending on my being accepted and returning to school, in five years I would still be in the CRNA program. The program consists of seven semesters, which equates to 28 months of 40-64 hours of study per week. Fortunately, ECU maintains a small class size of 12-14 students, as well as, boasts a graduation rate of 95%, and a 100% pass rate on the National Certification Exam. …show more content…
In three years, I will re-evaluate returning to school to pursue a MSN in anesthesia. If at that time, my desire to return to school is still there, and I feel it is an achievable goal, I will submit my application for acceptance into a CRNA program. Once accepted into a program, the time frame will encompass roughly three years from the start of the application process to graduation. During this time, I would not be working, as “part-time employment is not encouraged while enrolled in this program” (Frequently Asked Questions, 2015). Hence, the further financial burden of returning to school, which I will need to evaluate for pros and cons. If I decide to return to college, I will graduate at the six to seven year mark in my goal setting process. Immediately after graduation, I hope to secure a position within a local hospital near my home. While working, I plan to use all of the income to fulfill payment on my student loans. Once that is completed, I will be able to place my income it into a retirement fund. I anticipate this would place me at the 10-12 year mark in my goal setting time frame. Then, depending on my daughter’s progress in college, I will contemplate my retirement date. At this point, I see myself retiring from fulltime work 15 years from now. Then, I will begin traveling across the United States, with my husband in our motorhome, as well as, vacationing
...years before applying for my Dermatology Nurse Certification. After working for the required time needed I will then pursue my MSN/APN and then the DNP. I’m not placing a date for completion because I would like to enjoy my time as a student, while gaining my education and experience. My long term goal is to work independently as and open up my own practice specializing in hair loss.
The SMART goal I set for myself was to eat healthier by the end of the semester. In the early part of this semester, I was successful. I gathered information on foods that would be good for me to eat and snack on throughout the day and I had my grocery list written before I went into the store to not get sidetracked. However, as the semester progressed my eating habits lacked and no longer went to get groceries and often forgot to eat if I did not set a reminder or my grandmother brought food. I was not successful in meeting my SMART goal. One of the barriers I believe that kept me from reading my goal was my constant anxiety over school and life in general. I found myself often worrying over those things and not really feeding myself until
Since the publishing of the goal setting theory by Locke and Latham (1990), there have been a series of follow up research on the various elements of goal setting likely to influence goal attainment. A number of studies, based off of the discovery of the ponderous influence of goal setting on success, scrutinizing the effects of goals on moderating factors in achievement like self efficacy (Elson & Ginis, 2004), motivation (Elliot & Harackiewicz, 1994), goal sources, commitment, performance and numerous others have been conducted.
In the next three years, I plan to become an advanced practice registered nurse. I have applied and plan to further my career by obtaining a doctorate in nursing degree with the specialty of adult nursing practice to further be able to contribute to the nursing field in a more advanced capacity. I enjoy hands on aspect of nursing the most and being able to contribute to individual health as they strive to maintain and/or improve their
A college that has the degree i will need for this occupation would be University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), But the plan for me was to go to Peru state for 2 years and then transfer over to SCC and finish it out there. Another plan was to go to Southeast Community College and only go for 2 years and then go back to get my bachelors degree, But , Critical care nurses choose to earn the Certified Critical Care Nurse designation that is offered through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Many people have goals, it is simply a common idea that all people have whether they are big or small, a halfhearted joke or a dream that one wishes to make a reality. However, what most people do not realize is that it takes much more than a want or desire. Most people think that is they wish for it hard enough it will come true. Yet there are others that know that it takes a significant amount of planning, mental preparedness, effort, perseverance, and determination. Some of these people use FOCUS, a method used in goal setting. FOCUS stands for Fit, Ownership, Concreteness, Usefulness, and Stretch. The idea is to make sure that your goal fits your personal core values, that it is a goal that makes you genuinely happy, not someone else,
By using the S.M.A.R.T. goal system, you are able to make your dreams a reality, one small step at a time. The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. the goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012).
The BSN program helps the nurses in many ways including utilizing the process to the full scale and it will encourage nurses to use their skills like educating the patient as we’ll as creating new nurses. Because of the new health care reform, the BSN program will also aid in filling the gap from the influx of patients. The baccalaureate degrees and BSN program helps prepare students for the significant part they are going to play in reinforcing the new healthcare reform. At present, I utilize and develop nursing care plans in the nursing process, even though it needs some corrections due to the nature of my work. The highest standards of nursing can only be achieved through better research and advanced training.
Reflecting back, this program has enriched my professional career, knowledge, and perspective of nursing in various ways. I believe I have developed advanced critical thinking and analytical skills, high EI based on learned knowledge, flexibility to accept change, and rational reasoning/knowledge to understand EBP and nursing research. The program offered me more than I had expected, in terms of knowledge, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, competency, and creativity. Each course and its innovative learning style (e.g., voice thread, youseeu, journal club, etc.) challenged, empowered, and motivated me to perform better, aim higher, and excel. Upon graduation, I intend to take a minimum six month break to enjoy quality family time and social life before embarking on a master
The SMART goals technique is the most popular and effective method used for goal setting across the organizations. SMART goal setting brings structure and trackability into your goals and objectives. Instead of vague resolutions, SMART goal setting creates verifiable trajectories toward a certain objective, with clear milestones and an estimation of the goal’s attainability. SMART goal setting also creates transparency throughout the company. Please find below the detailed description of SMART goal setting process.
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
For my two SMART goals, I am going to work on communicating and giving feedback to my workers. For my SMART goal for giving feedback, I am going to focus on my personal assessments. I am going to have a schedule
My understanding of “SMART Goals” is that it helps the students, teachers and parents to get to the right path about the students’ needs and education. In general it pin point how an IEP should be written and the kind of information that it should have. First having a specific goal and objectives that state details what are we going to work with the students. Second, goals and objectives are measure by teachers and parents observing or through assessment, how much improvement have the students have made since the last observation. When writing measurable goals and objectives we need to specify what we want to see happening in the students and how long is going to be measure. Third, action words in which we are basically need to use words
...e very important. When these goals are specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and timely they are the most effective. When I set my SMART goal in order to increase my physical activity, the goal was to feel better about myself and to have a clearer mind so that I could do well with my studies this resulted in increasing my physical health and wellness. There were a few challenges of having to force myself to get out of bed even though I was feeling really anxious. I think when making a SMART goal and changing that particular behaviour there will be changes that need to be faced and overcome. These might include psychological, family and work commitments, health challenges and many other duties. Motivation and time management therefore need to be considered when making a SMART goal to make this possible and therefore can succeed in their new behaviour change.
Goal setting produces number of benefits, whether it be in personal case or professional life. The basic underlying premise of goal setting explains the relation between goal establishment and our achievement. Apart from achievements, goal setting soothes the anxiety and pressure. Goal setting destigmatize the pressure upon us by demystifying the way out in the future. The habit of goal setting helps to anticipate the things and suggest for the pre-plan. A well-planned structure is obvious to be anxiety and pressure free; same is the case with goals setting. Earlier goal setting was taken just as a medium to anticipate things. People weren’t proactive towards goal setting; they had a concept but they were unware about using them for improve production. From the initial period of study of goal setting, people were more focused on private case. They lacked a proper strategy to set the goals and end up with wrong assumption which further led to disappointing results. The traditional trends seem that there is no room for failure and adjustments in goal setting. When you have zero knowledge on something, everything seems realistic and achievable. The earlier use of goal setting was bound by limited knowledge which intervened in all possible sector, however this could not bring a positive result
