The description of each of the categories is as follows: Consultative: the most neutral style, the norm for conversations and letters between strangers, marked through the absence of both formal and informal styles. One of the reasons that might influence one’s helping behavior is social norm. Social norm of helping can tell us why or when we should help other people when they need our help. Social norm is a putative behavior that an individual is expected to do and obeys to in any particular groups or community that can also be a basis for any acceptable and good behaviors. In other words, social norm can help people to decide on what they should do in any uncertain situations. Norms can also influence someone’s behavior and reasons on why they do what they do.

PSYC321-Social Psychology taught me about the ways in which people are influenced by others, how people make decisions, inferences we make about others’ attitudes and personalities, and influence of situational and variables on behavior. I learned that people behave the way that they do for so many reasons. Behaviors are caused more by the social situation than they are by the characteristics of the individuals. One of the concepts that I recall is Lewin’s equation which indicates that the behavior of a person at any given time depends on both the characteristics of the person and the influence of the social situation. Attitude is everything. Without attitude, it would not define who we are. It is important to see how attitudes can bring people together or how attitudes can also separate people. I thought the author came up with a great explanation of attitude and how there are losers and winners. Losers, of course, will be pessimistic about every situation while winners, will optimist about every situation. The author gave a great analysis of many scenarios and situations.
