My oldest daughter had a pit-bull, best dog she owned. Was really good with both her boys and never acted aggressive towards anyone, all she wanted was for someone to pet her belly. I know that my daughter also trained her dog, and made sure she always had something for her to chase, and play with. Most pit-bulls need those stimuli to keep them preoccupied, otherwise they might chew on things.
When I got a Pit Bull, I knew the risks I was taking. These types of dogs seem to be violent and aggressive. People see them as trouble, dangerous, and killers. This is because of the reputation of the Pit Bull and how they are forced to fight each other against their will. Pit Bulls are known to be used for dog fights and people see them only as wild animals rather household pets or part of the family. We should find a way to help change this point of view. This can all be changed by the way one purchases a Pit Bull. Most animal rescues will inspect a person’s household to see if the person qualifies to become an owner of a Pit Bull. This might not be as effective as it was before. Maybe we can increase the security measure. We could do a personal background check included with the house check, or check the neighborhood to see if there are reports of thief in the area.
III. Have you seen a dog jumping all over his owners or his guests when arriving back at the house after a short trip? Is that a dog that is glad to see them? Did you know if you lavish them with emotion and affection at this time you showing them you are a follower?
The domestic dog, Canis familiaris, is a quadrupedal mammal which is a member of the Canidae family. Dogs are said to be the first animal species to be domesticated, which is estimated to have taken place at the end of the last ice age around 15,000 years ago (CLUTTON *3). Dogs are derived from the domestication of the gray wolf, and nowadays there are hundreds of different breeds of domestic dog (AZ). In terms of distribution, although the wild gray wolf population is found in the northern hemisphere, domestic dogs are spread worldwide, living with humans in a variety of environments. In such environments, dogs can live for over twelve years, with some even living for up to 20 years (EOL).
You want your dog to understand that you are the person to look to when they question what is right or wrong. This is done by being firm, yet kind with the dog. You don't want your dog to listen to you out of fear, but out of respect. Setting boundaries is very important in gaining respect. Sit down with your family and discuss what is and what is not appropriate for the dog to be doing. Perhaps you have no problem with a dog on the furniture, but kitchen entrance is not allowed.
As the owner of three unique pups, I know that dogs’ variances are numerous. Any one who owns a dog knows that it has a mind of its own, and therefore a unique personality. Having had many dogs throughout my life, I have found that dogs fit into three classifications.
As a kid, I fell in love with the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas. Wrapped in a small box with a bow on top sitting under the tree just like the movies and tv shows I had seen. I can remember making a Christmas list of all the things I wanted that year, and every year the same thing that I wanted had said “puppy” with it underlined so that my mother knew which was my favorite on the list. Every year no surprise, I didn’t find a dog. I never understood why I never received one. When the kids at school talked about the few dogs they had at home made me so jealous, but I hoped that one day it would be me to have my own best friend at home.
